2 Abena s skincare Abena has a complete skincare range with washing products, creams and ointments that covers all needs from daily skin care to professional care of skin problems. The product range has been developed in collaboration with end-users to cover and solve individual and specific skin care needs. The products are compounded of as few ingredients as possible, and only raw materials of unquestionable quality are used both to reduce the risk of developing allergies. All products have been dermatologically tested and are assessed as being nonirritant and of a very good quality. All the basic products have a skin neutral ph-value and the products that contain perfume, contain small amounts and perfume oils that are produced according to the rules from IFRA (International Fragrance Association). Abena packaging The Abena dispenser is a practical and hygienic dispenser with pump that has been designed with correct dosing in mind. The products are divided into colour groups to make the range user-friendly. White: Special creams and ointments in tubes Yellow: Cream and lotion Green: Wash without water Blue: Wash with water W/O and O/W emulsions When you talk about lotions and creams and ointments there are two different emulsion types: W/O and O/W emulsion. Emulsions are composed of an oil phase and a water phase and can be combined in two different ways as water in oil emulsion (W/O) and as oil in water emulsion (O/W). Oil Oil The skincare products finest purpose is to support the skin in its natural protection function. Oil in water (O/W) Water Water in oil (W/O) Water The skin is the body s largest organ. One of its tasks is to protect the body against outside factors. A condition for this is that the skin is intact, clean and supple. The skin, on a daily basis is exposed to outside influences that challenge the skin s natural protection function. It is important to assess skin type, skin strain and care needed to be able to choose the optimum hygienic solution that ensures cleaning, moisture to the skin and care and regeneration of the skin s natural barrier and/ or protection function. In emulsions that are described as O/W the oil drops are dispersed in the water the contents of fat is low, and the contents of moisturising substances is high. These emulsions are characterized by penetrating fast into the skin without being greasy. These emulsions prevent dry skin and moisturises the skin. 2

3 Page 4 The yellow range consists of creams and lotions and has been developed for the daily care of the skin, to support the functions of the skin and to prevent skin problems. Skin cream has a high content of fat and is preferred for the care of dry and exposed skin and for protection and regeneration of damaged skin. Lotion contains a relatively high content of water and a low content of fat. Lotion is liquid and easy to apply. Therefore the lotion is the most preferred for skin care of the whole body. Lotion is used to maintain the skin s moistness and for prevention of skin problems. Page 5 The white range consists of special creams and ointments developed for special purposes and for prevention and care of skin problems of varying nature. Page 6 The green range consists of washing products for use without water. The products have been specially developed as a gentle alternative for water and soap. The washing cream resembles lotion the most and contains active ingredients that neutralises urine and perspiration salts. The lotion is applied and wiped off without the use of water. Therefore it is very suitable for immobile patients. The product is also well suited for people with incontinence problems, where personal hygiene is given attention many times a day. The washing cream is gentle and effective and leaves a protective membrane on the skin that protects against moisture. The green range is furthermore a hygienic and time-saving solution. Page 7 The blue range consists of washing products for use with water, designed for the daily handand body hygiene. The washing products are long lasting in use and consist of mild active ingredients that are gentle towards both skin and environment.
