1 The Advisory Board Company Community Impact - Pro Bono Consulting Application Thank you for your interest in applying for an Advisory Board Company Community Impact pro bono project. As we strive to deepen our impact in our communities, we recognize the opportunity to leverage one of our firm s greatest assets the intellectual capital of our talented staff. Through our pro bono support, we work with nonprofit leaders to address pressing community issues by leveraging our core skills in best practice research, strategic consulting, change management, and the utilization of technology, to have a measurable difference in a specific, strategic area of focus. We request that potential partners evaluate us fully to determine if we are the right fit, and ask that these partners allow us to do the same, with the goal being a mutually beneficial partnership that will yield an outcome much greater than the sum of each group s individual potential impact. To aid us in making this determination, we ask that any potential pro bono partner fill out the application below and give any additional information that would be relevant for this mutual evaluation. CUSTOMIZED PRO BONO OFFERINGS We typically engage in two types of projects, longer term consultative support and quick hit solutions for a specific issue, which are defined below in more detail. However, we are open to engaging with you in anything that will yield large-scale impact, so please do not feel constrained by these two models. Multi-month Pro Bono Engagements: Teams of 3-7 people leverage their professional skills and talent to provide strategic guidance to nonprofits over a 3-4 month period of time. Pro Bono In-a-Day: Small groups brainstorm solutions, resources, and tools with senior leaders of nonprofit organizations in a high-impact, multi-hour service engagement. To help you think about how your organization can best utilize our staff, below is an outline of the skills we may offer to your organization through high-impact pro bono consulting. Messaging, Branding & Fundraising Strategy Technology Collateral review Development of an elevator pitch Social media strategy Development/refinement of vision and mission statement Donor strategy Special events management Strategic planning Board structure and leadership Market analysis and revenue streams Financial analysis Database management Development of reporting tools Web design I.T. needs assessment Best Practice Research HR Strategy Design Best practice research in Employee engagement Graphic design - Annual health care and education Performance evaluation reports, brochures, posters systems Logo creation Recruitment strategy Brand identify Succession planning

2 If your organization is interested in a pro bono engagement, we ask that you please complete and submit the attached pro bono application to CommunityImpact@advisory.com. Please review the organizational and selection criteria prior to filling out your application. Organizational Criteria: Please verify that your organization meets the following criteria. If you would respond no to any point, please contact Community Impact before completing the application. There is still the potential to collaborate, but we would want to have a more detailed conversation prior to asking your organization to take the time to fill out this complete application. Non-profit: IRS 501(c)3 Mission: Focuses on communities in one of the 8 Advisory Board locations Mission: Does not promote a religion, or specific religious or political beliefs Size: At least 3 full-time paid staff and a Board of Directors Budget: An annual operating budget of at least $500,000 Commitment: Senior staff person able to commit 6 to 10 hours per month as project liaison Commitment: Board Chair and ED are willing to take an active role with project leadership (as needed) Commitment: Will allow team to share final recommendations with board or relevant subcommittees Impact: Advisory Board may create case studies based on project to be shared with other nonprofits and external audience. Impact: Will complete an impact survey at the conclusion of the project, at 1 year, and 2 years after SELECTION CRITERIA: The Advisory Board seeks to work with organizations where there are indications that a potential pro bono project will be completed successfully and have lasting, meaningful impact. Those indications include: Capacity of the Executive Director or another senior leader to participate in the project A well-defined and realistic project scope Stable leadership within the organization. Nonprofits with an interim Executive Director or foreseeable transition are discouraged from applying. Financial stability Regular Board meetings To ensure that the appropriate resources can be allocated to a project, an organization is limited to 2 Advisory Board pro bono projects at any given time. If an organization is working with the Advisory Board on two simultaneous projects, we ask that there be separate senior leader contacts for each project. One of which must be the Executive Director. If you meet all of the eligibility and selection criteria, and continue to be interested in a pro bono collaboration, please complete the application below.
