1 Texas Department of Public Safety Texas Division of Emergency Management Event Name August 2015 Wild Fire Event SITREP Date 08/30/2015 Time 0700 Operational Period /29/15 thru /30/15 Report Number 19 Regions Affected DPS Regions Affected 1, 2, 3, 4 & 6 DDCs Active None STATEWIDE CURRENT SITUATION: As dry weather conditions and a high-pressure ridge prevail over the state, a number of large wild fires continue across Texas. By Today and into this week the high-pressure ridge is forecast to shift back east toward southern New Mexico, although its areal influence will shrink. A weakness in the ridge may allow a low-pressure system to form over East Texas by Monday. If this occurs, some shower and thunderstorm activity may develop along the Gulf Coast where atmospheric moisture will be deepest. As this low persists across East Texas, Tuesday into Wednesday there is a chance for showers over roughly the southeastern half of Texas. At this point heavy rain does not look likely, and the northwestern half of the state will remain very warm and dry. Drought conditions are returning to a good part of the southeast two thirds of Texas. Topsoil moisture has decreased during the past month or so, thus it will take more rainfall for runoff to occur. In Texas 41% of the state is abnormally dry, with 6% in severe drought. In New Mexico, 51% of New Mexico is also abnormally dry. The rainfall forecast over the next five days will not be heavy enough to cause significant runoff. Sunday, August 30, 2015 Page 1

Region 1 (Includes DDCs 4, 5, 6, and 22) DDC 6 Tyler (Includes: Anderson, Camp, Cherokee, Gregg, Harrison, Henderson, Marion, Panola, Rains, Rusk, Smith, Upshur, Van Zandt and Wood Counties) Harrison County: On 08/29/15 a fire in Harrison County burned 5 acres before it was 100 percent contained. No homes were threatened. Region 2 (Includes DDCs 13, 14, 15, 16 Houston, 16 Texas City, 16 Conroe, and DDC Pierce) DDC 14 Lufkin (Includes: Shelby, Nacogdoches, Houston, Angelina, San Augustine, Sabine, Trinity, San Jacinto, Polk, Tyler, Jasper and Newton Counties) Nacogdoches County: On 08/29/15 a fire in Nacogdoches County burned 3 acres before it was 100 percent contained. 5 Region 3 (Includes DDCs 19, 20, 21, and 24) DDC 24 Del Rio (Includes: Dimmit, Edwards, Kinney, La Salle, Maverick, Real, Uvalde, Val Verde, and Zavala Counties) Val Verde County: Meadows Fire (Formerly Malone Fire): The wildfire started on 8/28/15, burning 100 acres, and is 100 percent contained. Two homes and one utility barn, one fifth wheel trailer, one travel trailer, one manufactured home and several propane tanks were involved. Region 4 (Includes DDCs 8, 9, and 10) DDC 9 Stockton (Includes: Crane, Loving, Pecos, Reeves, Terrell, Upton, and Ward Counties) Terrell County: White Ranch Fire: The wildfire started on 8/29/15, burning approximately 2,500 acres, and is 55 percent contained. One home was threatened. DDC 10 San Angelo (Includes: Coke, Concho, Crockett, Irion, Kimble, Mason, McCulloch, Menard, Reagan, Schleicher, Sterling, Sutton, and Tom Green Counties) Schleicher County: Wilabee Fire: The wildfire started on 8/28/15, burned 400 acres, and is 100 percent contained. There are four homes threatened. Crockett County: Buckholt Fire: The wildfire started on 8/27/15, burned 1,000 acres, and is 80 percent contained. There is one home threatened. Prickley Pear Fire: The wildfire started on 8/28/15, burned 3,452 acres (adjusted on 08/29/15), and is 90 percent contained. There are no homes threatened. Mason County: Eaton Cemetery Fire: The wildfire started on 8/27/15, burned 7,856 acres, and is 65 percent contained. There are 23 homes threatened. Tom Green County: Rocking Chair Ranch Fire: The wildfire started on 8/27/15, burned 425 acres, and is 95 percent contained. There are no homes threatened. Region 6 (Includes DDCs 11, 23, 12, 18, and 17) DDC 12 Austin (Includes: Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee, Llano, Travis and Williamson Counties) Blanco County: Jack Fire: The wildfire started on 08/29/15 burning almost 7 acres before it was 100 percent contained. No homes were threatened. RESPONDING STATE AGENCIES/ORGANIZATIONS REPORTS Sunday, August 30, 2015 Page 5

6 Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS): DPS Highway Patrol is assisting with traffic control. Texas A&M Forest Service (TFS): TFS is responding to numerous fires and assisting local fire departments. Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT): TxDOT is providing water in support of the Eaton Cemetery Fire in Mason County. Aviation Assets: Two Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS) Engine Strike Teams and two Texas Military Forces (TXMF) UH-60s are supporting operations in Mason and Crockett Counties. Three Federal helicopters in Smithville, Kerrville, and Fredericksburg; two single-engine Air Tankers in Fredericksburg, two Air Attack aircraft, one in College Station and one in Fredericksburg; and one STAR Flight helicopter Kerr County. FINAL COMMENTS: The State Operations Center (SOC) is at Level IV (Normal Conditions). The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) continues to monitor the situation and will provide additional situation reports as needed. The four levels of SOC activation are: Level I (Emergency Conditions) Level II (Escalated Response Conditions) Level III (Increased Readiness Conditions) Level IV (Normal Conditions) This Situation Report can be found on the TDEM webpage at W.
