1 UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSIONS APPLICATION 2016
2 A Message From the Dean of Undergraduate Admissions: I am pleased that you are considering applying to my alma mater, Wake Forest University. It is a vibrant and welcoming place of ideas and discussion. Through this application, we seek information which will help both you and our Admissions Committee determine if indeed Wake Forest is the place best suited for you to spend your undergraduate years. I hope you will enjoy completing our application and providing us with insight into your thoughts and accomplishments. On the facing page you will find detailed information about our application process for your reference and convenience. If questions or concerns arise at any point during your application process, please contact the admissions office at or us at [email protected]. We will be happy to assist you. Our application requires an official transcript from your high school as well as a Secondary School Report form which should be completed by your college counselor. If you attend a high school which does not issue an official class rank, it will be necessary for your counselor to submit ranking information to the nearest decile or quintile. The Teacher Recommendation Form should be completed by a teacher in an academic subject and should be submitted directly to the admissions office. Official SAT, ACT or other standardized test scores must be submitted directly from the testing center if you wish them to be considered in the admissions process. If you prefer that your application be considered without test scores, please indicate this on your admissions application. Wake Forest is committed to making enrollment possible to all admitted students regardless of their economic circumstances. If you have not done so already, please take a few moments to peruse our financial aid Web site at wfu.edu/financial_aid. In addition to our extensive need-based financial aid program, Wake Forest offers a small number of meritbased scholarships for those students with extraordinary achievements. Most merit-based scholarships are awarded based on the admissions application. While international students must complete a Confidential Financial Information Form (form can be found at wfu.edu/apply) and are not eligible for need-based financial aid, they will be considered for merit-based scholarships. Students who wish to be considered for merit-based scholarships must have all required admissions materials filed prior to December 1. Additional information concerning scholarships is available through the Wake Forest Web site. If you have already decided that Wake Forest is your college choice, we welcome you to apply under our binding Early Decision program. Early Decision candidates may apply any time after the completion of the junior year but no later than November 15. You will be notified on a rolling basis. Please be mindful that this is a binding agreement, and if you are admitted, you will be expected to enroll. If your college enrollment is dependant on financial assistance, either merit or need-based, you should apply under the regular decision plan rather than early decision. The deadline for Regular Decision application is January 1 with notification by April 1. Transfer applicants are notified in May. I hope that a part of your consideration of Wake Forest will include a visit to our beautiful campus. We encourage you to tour the facilities and explore the campus community through scheduled information sessions, campus tours and interviews. If you have not done so, please contact the admissions office to arrange a visit. We look forward to reviewing your application! Best wishes, Martha Blevins Allman ( 82, MBA 92) Dean of Undergraduate Admissions
3 1 Application Information Application Form November 15 is the application deadline for Early Decision. Regular Decision deadline for the fall term is January 1. The deadline for spring term is November 1. Please file your application earlier, if possible. Wake Forest also accepts the Common Application. The Wake Forest University written supplement is required to complete these applications. The written supplement can be completed online as part of the Common Application. A nonrefundable application fee of $60 must accompany the application. Please make checks payable to Wake Forest University. You MUST sign the application. Any materials submitted as part of the admissions application (DVDs, CDs, etc.) become property of the University and will not be returned. Early Decision Plan Early Decision is for incoming first-year students who have selected Wake Forest as their first-choice school and only active Early Decision application and for those whose enrollment is not contingent on the receipt of merit or need-based financial assistance. Students may submit Regular Decision applications to other institutions. Students may submit an application at any time after completion of the junior year and no later than November 15. Decisions on these applications are made on a rolling basis. Students agree to enroll if accepted and to withdraw all applications from other colleges. A $500 nonrefundable deposit is due within 2 weeks of acceptance notification. Secondary School Report An official transcript of your high school grades must accompany the Secondary School Report. The Secondary School Report must be completed and signed by your college counselor. Recommendations School counselors are asked to submit a written evaluation along with the Secondary School Report. Wake Forest also requires an additional Teacher Recommendation Form. This should be completed by a teacher who has been your instructor in an academic subject, preferably from junior year. The writer should send the form directly to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Standardized Tests Wake Forest values individual academic achievement, initiative, talent and character above standardized testing. Therefore, submission of standardized test scores is optional for admission. If scores are submitted, they will be treated as supplemental information through the evaluation process. Students that have taken but not submitted SAT I Reasoning Test scores or ACT plus Writing scores will be required to do so upon enrollment. Scores will not be used for placement. If submitting scores for consideration, score reports must be sent directly from the testing centers. To request that scores be sent, contact: SAT collegeboard.com Wake Forest CEEB: 5885 ACT act.org Wake Forest code: 3168 Other standardized test scores, such as SAT Subject Tests and AP Tests, are welcomed and will be treated as supplemental information. Interviews We strongly encourage all applicants to schedule a personal interview. On-campus and web-cam interviews are available by appointment only beginning June 1. It is advisable to arrange your interview well in advance. Notification, Reply and Deposit Dates Early Decision candidates will be notified on a rolling basis. A nonrefundable $500 admission deposit is required within 2 weeks of acceptance notification for Early Decision candidates. Regular Decision candidates are notified no later than April 1. A nonrefundable $500 admission deposit is required by May 1 for Regular Decision candidates.
4 2 Transfers The number of transfer students varies from semester to semester depending on the current enrollment. No merit-based scholarships are available for transfer students but applicants are encouraged to apply for need-based aid. If you are applying to transfer to Wake Forest University, please send the following items: 1. Application and $60 fee 2. All official post-secondary transcripts 3. Dean s statement from each college you have attended (form can be photocopied) 4. Final official high school transcript 5. Submission of standardized test scores is optional 6. Essay stating why you desire to transfer to Wake Forest Transfer to Wake Forest Applications for the fall semester will be reviewed beginning on April 1. Applications for the spring semester will be reviewed beginning on November 1. Students are encouraged to submit the application prior to these dates. Applications are often accepted after these dates, however. For more information on whether transfer applications are still being accepted once these dates have passed, please contact the admissions office. Need, Merit and Talent-Based Aid The CSS PROFILE and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) are required of need-based financial aid applicants. The PROFILE and the FAFSA should be filed no later than February 1. Most merit-based scholarships will be awarded based on the admissions application. Students who wish to be considered for merit-based scholarships must submit all required application materials prior to December 1. Please visit wfu.edu and click on Admissions then Merit-Based Scholarships for more information. International Students An applicant who is not a United States citizen or permanent resident must apply as an International Applicant. While international applicants will use the same application form as all other applicants, international applicants will be required to submit additional information. Because international applicants are not eligible for need-based financial aid, Wake Forest requires documentation that the applicant can meet all the expenses of earning a Wake Forest degree. Therefore, international applicants must submit a completed copy of the Confidential Financial Information Form (CFIF). This form can be downloaded and printed from the Additional Forms section at wfu.edu/admissions/forms. This form is required, and the application will not be evaluated until the CFIF has been received. Other personal financial documents such as bank statements, letters, or affidavits are welcome but will not be accepted as substitutes for the CFIF. Though not eligible for need-based financial aid, international applicants are eligible for merit-based scholarships. All international applicants whose first language is not English are required to submit an official TOEFL score directly from the testing center. International applicants are strongly encouraged to interview with Wake Forest. We offer interviews in the office and via web cam. Upon processing of the application, the applicant will be contacted with further instructions. 19 Wake Forest was founded upon and has historically maintained the ideals of Pro Humanitate. Thus, we seek intellectually curious students of high character with a well-defined social conscience, and because of the nature of Wake Forest, that is the kind of students we attract. We have a critical mass of students here who are motivated to learn and to serve others. Our community attracts students who seek a collegiate experience in which they are challenged intellectually, and at the same time, have the encouragement and the opportunity to give back.
