1 GENERAL GUIDELINES ECDA - CHILD CARE SCHOLARSHIP FOR ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE AND EDUCATION LEADERSHIP (2012/2013) Interested applicants are invited to apply for the ECDA - Child Care Scholarship for the Parttime Advanced Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education- Leadership tenable at: Ngee Ann Polytechnic ( 1. Benefits of Scholarship ECDA - Child Care scholarships will cover the following components: Course fee 1 ( unsubsidized portion of the course fee) Learning resource allowance (once-off) to the recipient Subsidy to the centre for engaging relief teacher when recipient takes paid leave to complete assignments/study/ attend examination (for the whole course) Cash award to the recipient upon successful completion of course 2. Eligibility Criteria Be a programme staff registered 2 with ECDA and currently employed with a child care centre licensed by ECDA, Be Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident; Recommended by the Child Care Centre; Must not concurrently hold or be serving out their bond for any other scholarship, bursary or funding; and Must be accepted by the training provider into the course/ programme selected. 1 If there is a difference in course fee for a PR and a Singapore Citizen, ECDA - Child Care scholarship quantum will be capped at the maximum course fee payable for a Citizen. Refer to respective agencies website for course fee details. 2 A registered teacher would have a Letter of Notification (LON) issued by ECDA (or MCYS) or MOE Page 1

2 In addition, nominees must also possess: Academic Requirements ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE AND EDUCATION LEADERSHIP Practitioners who had a full-time Polytechnic Diploma or a Degree from a recognised University in other disciplines; AND with successful completion of any of the following qualifications: 3. Tenure of Scholarship a) Advanced Diploma in Kindergarten Education-Teaching (ADKET); b) WSQ Professional Diploma in Early Childhood Care & Education (WSQ- PDECCE); c) Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education - Teaching (DECCET); * Note: Candidates need to have at least B4 in EL1 (or at least a C6 in EL1 + IELTS 6.5), or the medium of instruction for the Degree is English. The following Diploma holders are eligible for direct entry to the programme: - Diploma in Child Psychology & Early Education (from Ngee Ann Poly) or - Diploma in Early Childhood Studies (from Temasek Poly). The Scholarship shall be tenable for 18 months at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, subject to the nominee s good conduct and progress. 4. Conditions of Scholarship Child care centres of successful nominees and nominees will have to sign an undertaking with ECDA, and with the nominating Child care centre. For continuance of the Scholarship, nominees will be required to complete the course successfully according to the following requirements: Duration to complete course Bond period during the course Bond period (upon completion of course) Minimum Attendance Other conditions Scholarship To complete the course within a maximum of 18 months Remain at the nominating child care centre for the whole duration of the course Remain in the child care sector for 1 year upon completion of the course 80% for each course /module Successful complete and fulfill all required academic conditions stipulated by the training provider Page 2

3 5. Application for the Scholarship Applications for scholarship must be submitted using the prescribed form. Shortlisted nominees will be scheduled for interviews and only successful nominees will be notified.
