3 Introduction On September 29, 2009, Citrix released XenApp 5 Feature Pack 2, which provided enhancements to XenApp both the Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 platforms. For starters, all client-side software now runs on Windows 7. In addition to English, Japanese, German, French, and Spanish, most new functionality is supported in English on the following languages: Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Korean, and Russian. With this new release, upgrading/migrating core XenApp has been simplified, application compatibility issues will be a thing of the past, and the user experience reaches an even higher level. This document addresses the functionality of the Platinum feature set, including the installation steps. It serves as a technical guide for XenApp architects and administrators, as well as Citrix partners helping customers with these processes. To facilitate the implementation of XenApp 5 Feature Pack 2, this document contains the following sections: What s included with XenApp 5 Feature Pack 2? Upgrade/Migration Steps Existing XenApp Architecture XenApp 5 Feature Pack 2 can be upgraded based on the following environments: Presentation Server 4.5 XenApp 5 for Windows Server 2003 XenApp 5 for Windows Server 2008* *Several Feature Pack 2 enhancements are not applicable to the Windows Server 2008 platform. If the existing environment is based on Presentation Server 4.0 or earlier, it is necessary to first upgrade or migrate to one of these versions prior to commencing with the implementation of XenApp 5 Feature Pack 2. Please see CTX for more information. Upgrade vs. Migration Within this document, there is a distinction between the terms upgrade and migration as defined below: Upgrade: installing a newer version of a feature or release item over an existing version Migration: a clean, new installation of that feature or release item; where feasible, migrations are preferable This document will discuss each of the new features and the associated installation steps; however, in all cases, active Subscription Advantage as of September 18, 2009 is required. In addition, features can only be implemented based on availability by edition. Page 3

4 New Terminology As part of this release, Citrix has introduced several new product and feature names that will be used throughout this document. In particular, please note the following: Former Name (none) (none) (none) EdgeSight monitoring XenApp Hosted Apps plug-in/program Neighborhood Agent XenApp Streaming plug-in Access Management Console Presentation Server Console New Name HDX VM Hosted Apps Power and capacity management Service monitoring Citrix Online plug-in Citrix Offline plug-in Delivery Services Console XenApp Advanced Configuration Which Features Should Be Implemented? Because there are numerous new features and related components that have been released as part of or in conjunction with XenApp 5 Feature Pack 2, administrators and architects should review the functionality of each one in order to determine those that should be implemented. To assist you with learning about the new features, Citrix offers three evaluation options that can be accessed from A pre-configured, XenApp evaluation environment in the cloud A pre-configured virtual machine to evaluate XenApp in your own data center Download software to create your own XenApp application virtualization evaluation environment Once the appropriate features have been identified, use the steps or references from this guide to implement them. It s that easy! Page 4

7 Upgrade/Migration Steps As with all upgrades or migrations, a thoroughly documented and tested design should be part of the project plan. The design should incorporate input from all stakeholders, and a segregated lab environment should be used to systematically test the planned implementation. For example, if you have been issued private hotfixes by Citrix Technical Support and a standard Hotfix Rollup Pack (HRP) is installed, it is best to learn that a DLL was overwritten in a lab environment. Sequential Installation Order When upgrading or migrating a XenApp farm, the following sequence should be followed: 1. Install or upgrade Citrix Licensing Server a. Add licenses and/or verify that Subscription Advantage date is September 18, 2009, or later 2. If new installation and enterprise-grade database to be used for data store, install and configure. 3. Install or upgrade Zone Data Collector(s) 4. If legacy Resource Manager is used, install or upgrade Farm Metric Server(s) 5. Install or upgrade XenApp member servers 6. Install or upgrade Web Interface server(s)* 7. Install or upgrade other features/components *Some upgrade situations warrant Web Interface installation earlier. Documentation For more detailed explanation regarding any of the installation steps presented below, please see Page 7

8 Citrix License Server Build 9020 Citrix originally released License Server in March 2009; however, build 9020 resolves potential License Management Console port conflicts and includes minor updates. Although License Server build 9019 will meet the minimum requirements for installing HRP5, implementing Citrix License Server build 9020 is strongly recommended. To determine the version of the Citrix License Server currently running, access the following location in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix\LicenseServer\Install. Upgrade/Migration Steps for Citrix License Server Build 9020 Upgrading from Citrix License Server 9.2 or higher to Citrix License Server Build On the existing Citrix Licensing Server, ensure that the following are installed: a. MSI Installer 3.x b. JRE 1.6.0_5 c. Windows Server 2008 also requires ASP.NET, Windows Authentication security role, and IIS 6 Management Compatibility role 2. Install CTX_Licensing.msi Migrating to Citrix License Server Build On Windows 2000 Server, Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2008, ensure that the following are installed: a. MSI Installer 3.x b. 9 XenApp 5 for Windows Server 2003 with HRP5 In this release, new installations and upgrades are greatly simplified based on a single media resource for XenApp 5 for Windows Server 2003 and Feature Pack 2 items. Thus, administrators will find that upgrading or migrating to XenApp 5 for Windows Server 2003 is an easy process. In addition to a compilation of hotfixes, some of the new Feature Release 2 items depend on Hotfix Rollup Pack (HRP) 5; thus, upgrading or migrating the XenApp servers to HRP5 is strongly recommended. Specifically, those items that depend on HRP5 include: HDX MediaStream for Flash HDX Plug-n-Play for USB thumb drive Power and Capacity Management If these release items will be installed without the DVD autorun, first install HRP5 and XenApp5_FP2_Enabler.msi. As with past releases, Citrix recommends installing HRP5 first on the Zone Data Collector(s), then Farm Metric Server(s), then member servers. If the Citrix License Server is not present, an error message will be presented, and the installation will not continue until the correct version of the License Server is available. Management of XenApp 5 for Windows Server 2003 is principally based on the Delivery Services Console and the XenApp Advanced Configuration console. Updating the consoles should be done by means of the autorun and enables the administrator to use the latest functionality. Please note that the aforementioned HRP and console updates are only applicable to XenApp 5 for the Windows Server 2003 platform; HRP or console updates are not included for XenApp 5 for Windows Server Upgrade/Migration Steps for XenApp 5 for Windows Server 2003 with HRP5 Upgrading to XenApp 5 HRP5 from Presentation Server 4.5 or higher 1. 10 HDX MediaStream for Flash HDX MediaStream for Flash is based on client-side Flash rendering and optimization. By means of a new virtual channel, Flash calls are intercepted on the XenApp server and transferred to the client device. The client-side Flash player then downloads and plays the Flash content. HDX MediaStream for Flash is available only on XenApp 5 for Windows Server 2003 and requires valid Subscription Advantage (September 18, 2009, or later). By default, this feature is invoked when the connection latency is less than 30 ms; in situations where latency exceeds this threshold, HDX (formerly SpeedScreen) Flash Acceleration is utilized and Flash content is run from the XenApp server. Connection latency and other options can be configured by means of the HDXFlash-Server.adm and/or HDXFlash-Client.adm templates. 11 VM Hosted Apps VM Hosted Apps enables an application to be hosted and delivered from centralized Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 workstations and is a compliment to traditional XenApp Terminal Server-based application delivery. Applications that cannot be run on XenApp for technical or business reasons can be deployed by means of VM Hosted Apps. From the user perspective, the application is presented the same as traditional XenApp applications and can be found either in the Start Programs menu or when using a browser to connect to a Web Interface site. When installing VM Hosted Apps, it is necessary to create a new data store database; using an existing XenApp or XenDesktop database will result in corruption. Citrix recommends using Provisioning services in order to provision the virtual desktops used for VM Hosted Apps. If using Provisioning services, use the XenDesktop setup tool to configure vdisk images. The components include a Desktop Delivery Controller, a Virtual Desktop Agent, and the VM Hosted Apps Delivery Services Console. The Desktop Delivery Controller and the VM Hosted Apps Delivery Services Console must be based on the Windows Server 2003 platform. Although a distinct Delivery Services Console is required to manage VM Hosted Apps, multiple Delivery Services Consoles can be consolidated on a single computer for easy administration. VM Hosted Apps installation media is included with XenApp Feature Pack 2 and can be identified as build number ; only this build is supported. Upgrade/Migration Steps for VM Hosted Apps Upgrading to VM Hosted Apps Migrating to VM Hosted Apps Not applicable 1. 17 Citrix Merchandising Server and Receiver for Windows 1.1 Citrix Merchandising Server 1.1 helps create, deliver and manage a high-quality end user experience on laptops and desktops. Citrix Receiver for Windows is a universal client for IT service delivery. With Citrix Receiver installed on a computer, IT can deliver applications and desktops as an on-demand service with no need to manage, own or care about the physical device or its location. Citrix Merchandising Server includes rule-based targeted deliveries to provide administrative granularity. For example, an administrator may determine that a group of contractors only require access to the Citrix Online plug-in version 11.2, whereas corporate users should receive all Citrix plug-ins. Citrix Receiver for Windows 1.1 is the client-side component, and Citrix recommends upgrading both the Merchandizing Server and Citrix Receiver for Windows to version 1.1. 18 Profile Management 2.1 Profile management 2.1 includes support for Windows 7 client devices and minor updates. As such, upgrading from Profile management 2.0 to Profile management 2.1 is optional but recommended where the managed devices are based on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003 and/or Windows Server 2008; transitioning to Profile management 2.1 is only required where Windows 7 devices will be used. While it is technically possible to update the existing Profile management ADM template, there is the risk that a minor change will be overlooked. The new ADM template has an extra setting to change the path for the Profile management log file, which may be useful for troubleshooting XenDesktop integration issues. Instead, Citrix recommends installing the new Profile management ADM template in a new GPO and transitioning the settings within the previously used Profile management ADM template to the new GPO prior to being deleted. Also, while INI file settings can be used for configuration, the ADM template is more commonly used and recommended by Citrix. Upgrade/Migration Steps for Profile Management 2.1 Upgrading from Profile Management 2.0 to Profile Management On each managed computer, install the Profile Management MSI: a. On x86-based systems, install profilemgt2.1.0_x86.msi b. On x64-based systems, install profilemgt2.1.0_x64.msi 2. Create a new Active Directory GPO and import the ctxprofile2.1.0 adm template 3.
