2 Citrix HDX 3D for Professional Graphics 1.0 Release Notes This document summarizes the features in Citrix HDX 3D for Professional Graphics 1.0 and describes how to install this as an add-on to XenDesktop 3.0. It also provides details of the issues that have not been resolved in this version. Introduction Citrix HDX 3D for Professional Graphics can now deliver Windows physical desktops and applications to the most advanced professional graphics power users through Citrix XenDesktop technology. XenDesktop with HDX 3D provides the best performance possible over the wide area network (WAN), and over a local area network (LAN), HDX 3D consumes 10x less bandwidth than alternatives while still providing a high-definition user experience. In industries such as Manufacturing, Engineering and Graphic Design, Architecture and Animation, design teams are often geographically-dispersed but still require the ability to collaborate and work from the same source files. And these teams work with highly-valued intellectual property where security is paramount. Desktop virtualization provides significant business benefits to these organizations among them making secure, global collaboration possible. With XenDesktop 3.0 with HDX 3D enterprise users are ensured the best experience over any network. Design teams can collaborate in real time and keep IP safely housed in the datacenter. Key features of HDX 3D for Professional Graphics Release 1.0 Supports 3D professional graphics applications (both OpenGL and DirectX based) which need graphics hardware (GPU) acceleration for optimal performance Works as an add-on to XenDesktop 3.0 and XenDesktop 3.1 (XenDesktop 3.0 with Feature Pack 1). Automatically adjusts quality settings based on available bandwidth and resources. Delivers full native user experience on a LAN (100 Mbps) and very usable, interactive experience over a WAN (2 Mbps or above, with up to ~200 ms latency) Supports high resolution monitors up to 1920 x However, for best results over WAN connections, resolutions of 1280 x 1024 or below are recommended. Provides a real-time image quality configuration tool with an easy way to switch between a sharper image and smoother motion (depending on a user s available connection). HDX 3D host workstation is supported on Windows XP SP3 32-bit Professional. HDX 3D client is supported on Windows XP, Win 2K3, Windows VISTA. Client is supported on both 32-bit and 64-bit OS versions. 3 Installing HDX 3D for Professional Graphics For detailed HDX 3D prerequisites and installation steps, follow the Citrix HDX 3D for Professional Graphics - Admin Guide. If you are installing XenDesktop Desktop Delivery Controller and the Virtual Desktop Agent for the first time, follow the instructions and guidance in the Desktop Delivery Controller Administrator s Guide. To install other components of XenDesktop, follow the instructions provided in the documentation for each individual component. Upgrading the XenDesktop Setup HDX 3D for Professional Graphics 1.0 is supported on XenDesktop 3.0 and XenDesktop 3.1 (XenDesktop 3.0 Feature Pack 1), so if you have any prior version of XenDesktop, it has to be upgraded to 3.0 or above. To upgrade Desktop Delivery Controller Use the XenDesktop documentation available at for upgrade instructions. To upgrade the Virtual Desktop Agent Use the XenDesktop documentation available at for upgrade instructions. Removing the HDX 3D for Professional Graphics 1. On the Windows Control Panel Add or Remove Programs page, select Citrix HDX 3D for Professional Graphics 2. Click Remove. 3. Confirm that you want to remove this component by clicking Yes. A progress indicator appears. 4. When removal is complete, restart your system. Removing the XenDesktop Virtual Desktop Agent If HDX 3D for Professional Graphics is already installed then the HDX 3D component must be removed first before removing Virtual Desktop Agent. 1. On the Windows Control Panel Add or Remove Programs page, select Citrix Virtual Desktop Agent. 2. Click Remove. 3. Confirm that you want to remove this component by clicking Yes. A progress indicator appears. 4. When removal is complete, restart your system. Known Issues and Limitations The following issues and limitations exist in this release. The number at the end of each item is a Citrix Code Problem Report (CPR) number. Please find the workaround for all these issues in Citrix HDX 3D for Professional Graphics - Admin Guide. Page 3

4 HDX 3D Version 1.0 is ONLY supported in English. Logon Screen is displayed at off-set if session size is different from console resolution [187737] Overlay support (used by media players) not present. All media players have the option not to use overlay support and in that case everything works fine. [191989] Lossless Codec support, required for medical imaging, is not available in this release [199738] Full Screen support for OpenGL/DirectX applications is not available in this release, however, GDI full screen applications like Microsoft PowerPoint slide-show is supported [204311] [207874] Animated Cursor support is not there in this release [209513] Original resolution of HDX 3D server does not appear when it is restarted from client; it retains the resolution set by the client during last connection. [213218] Uninstalling XenDesktop VDA before HDX 3D can cause system instability [217721] Slider bar of the image configuration tool doesn't move to the exact location where user clicks. This is the behavior of MFC slider bar component [217978] True Multi-monitor support is not available [218602] The HDX 3D image configuration tool (UI), Start Menu, DU Meter, Tool tips etc., when overlapping with an OpenGL window, may cause reduced visual quality of your HDX 3D Session. Local monitor blanking gets enabled with remote HDX connection. This is achieved by keeping the default Windows timeout to Never. Any changes made to this setting can cause the local monitor to become active. Users are recommended to avoid changing the setting for security reasons. Page 4
