3 RealPresence Collaboration Server 7.8 The RealPresence Collaboration Server (formerly RealPresence RMX) version 7.8 software release includes support of Scalable Video Coding (SVC) conferences. SVC conferencing offers high resolution video conferencing with low end-to-end latency, improved error resiliency and higher system capacities. Version 7.8 supports the new Conferencing Mode SVC Conferencing, which is based on the SVC video protocol and SAC audio protocol. The ability to host both SVC and AVC endpoints in the same conference is planned for release in SVC Benefits An SVC video stream consists of a base layer that encodes the lowest available quality representation plus enhancement layers that each provides additional quality improvement. The number of enhancement layers and the number of participants video included in the video stream to a device can be tailored to fit the bandwidth available and device capabilities. The SVC solution delivers an enhanced user experience with the industry s best error resilience across video, voice and content. Another key benefit of SVC is that it increases the 720p HD capacity of the RMX by a factor of three. The RMX 1500, for example, can support a maximum of p HD ports. The same RMX 1500 can support p HD ports in SVC mode. SVC Requirements SVC conferences are supported only with the following components: RMX systems with MPMx card CP licensing SIP over UDP signaling SIP over TLS signaling Polycom SVC-enabled endpoints (Polycom RealPresence Desktop or Polycom RealPresence Mobile) Ad hoc conferencing via Meeting Rooms and ongoing conferences SVC only conferences can run on the same MCU as standard AVC only conferences. All of the endpoints participating in a single SVC Only conference must be connected to the same media card, as the SVC media streams cannot be shared between MPMx cards. Dial-out is not available in SVC Only conferences and AVC endpoints are not allowed. AVC endpoints attempting to connect to an SVC Only conference will be disconnected and the call will fail. SVC endpoints cannot connect to SVC Only conferences via Entry Queues and they be moved between conferences. Content is supported using the H.264 Cascade and SVC Optimized options. Auto Layout is the default and only setting to display the video on the endpoint screen. When the DMA is part of the solution, the SVC endpoint subscribes to the DMA for call control. If a DMA is not part of the solution, the SVC endpoint subscribes to the RMX for call control. Page 3 of 10

4 SVC Supported Resolutions The simulcast media streams supported by the MCU are called operation points and they are fixed for all SVC conferences. The MCU automatically selects the operation points according to the conference line rate. The table below details the maximum resolution and frame rates supported by the MCU for each conference line rate. The actual video rate, resolution and frame rate displayed on each endpoint is determined by the endpoint s capabilities. A single MCU can support 90 SVC video resources up to 720p30, as each SVC port uses 1 CIF port on the RMX. SVC Conference Profiles SVC conferences on the RMX Collaboration Server require a Conference Profile that has been set to use the Conferencing Mode of SVC Only as shown below. Notice that once the SVC Only Conferencing Mode has been selected, the option menus on the left side of the page are drastically reduced. Items such as Gathering Settings, Video Settings, Audio Settings, Skins, IVR, Recording, Site Names and Message Overlays are not available for configuration in an SVC conference. Page 4 of 10

5 Since the SVC Only conferences only support dial-in, the next step will be to create a Meeting Room or ongoing conference that uses this Conference Profile. Endpoints that support SVC, such as the new RealPresence Desktop for Windows or RealPresence Mobile 2.0 will then be able to place a SIP call into these conferences. Non SVC endpoints that attempt to dial into this conference will be immediately disconnected. Page 5 of 10

Exercise Summary (5 Minutes) Objective During this lab you will use the RMX Manager 7.8 to create an appropriate conference profile and meeting room and then use Wire Shark to capture a trace of the AVC call you will place using RealPresence Desktop for Windows. Open the RMX Manager 7.8 application an connect to the RealPresence Collaboration Server using an Administrator login 2. Navigate to Rarely Used > Conference Profiles and select the Profile icon for New 3. Name the new profile SVC Profile, select an appropriate line rate and select the Conferencing Mode of SVC Only from the drop-down list (notice that many of the selection options on the left side of the window have now disappeared) 4. Select the Video Quality option and notice the Content Protocol of H.264 Cascade and SVC Optimized is the only available choice. 5. The Network Services option can be used to specify a specific network service 6. Click OK to create the new Conference Profile 7. Navigate to Frequently used > Meeting Rooms and select the icon for New Meeting Room 8. Name the new meeting room SVC Meeting Room, select an appropriate duration and be sure to select the Profile: SVC Only 9. Set the ID of the conference to 1234 and click OK to create the new Meeting Room Page 8 of 10

9 Place SVC Call and Use WireShark and RMX Manager to Monitor 10. From your PC, open the Wireshark application and select Capture > Interfaces from the Menu Bar 11. Click once on your machine s local network adapter (i.e., Intel Gigabit adapter ) and click on the Start button next to it to begin a capture session 12. Open RealPresence Desktop for Windows and place a SIP call into the SVC Meeting Room, in this example dialing 1234@ where is the Signaling IP address of the Collaboration Server version Once the call connects, open RMX Manager 7.8 to monitor the conference 14. Select the SVC Meeting Room in the Conferences window and then select your endpoint in the Participant window 15. Right-click and select Participant Properties to view the SDP or Session Description Protocol information, and then select OK 16. When finished viewing details from the RMX Manager, return to RealPresence Desktop application and terminate the call 17. Return to Wireshark and select Capture > Stop to terminate the trace Navigate to Telephony > VoIP Calls and highlight the video call you just completed 18. Click Flow to review the call flow of the SVC call. You should be able to locate the Siren LPR Scalable audio codec and H.264 SVC video codec 19. Click Save As and save the call flow to your desktop as SVC.txt 20. Select Close and then Close again and finally File > Quit to leave Wireshark End of practical exercise Page 9 of 10

10 Exporting and Importing Conference Templates, Conference Profiles and System Flags This new version allows for the importing and exporting of RMX Conference Templates, Conference Profiles and System Configuration Files. This new feature helps ensure identical settings across multiple MCUs, which is especially important in environments using cascading conferences that are running on different MCUs. RMX Manager users with Administrator permissions are allowed to both import and export Conference Templates, Conference Profiles and the System flags. Operators are only allowed to export Conference Templates and Conference Profiles and have no access to System Flags. When exporting or importing a Conference Template, the system provides a checkbox to automatically include the associated Conference Profile in the process. The Export dialog box is shown below with this option checked. The Import Conference Template dialog box has a similar option. Note: Associated IVR profiles and message files are not exported or imported along with the Conference Profiles. Page 10 of 10
