1 Pe. 1:12 Incarnate in human form at times Gen. 18:2-8 Not perfect Job 4:18 Minister to Christ Mt. 4:11 Lk. 22:43 Jn. 1:51 Are subject to Christ Eph. 1:21 Col. 1:16 Col. 2:10 1 Pe. 16:27 1 Pe. 25:31 Mk. 8:38 2 Th. 1:7 Know and delight in the gospel of Christ Eph. 3: Ti. 3:16 1 Pe. 1:12 Mediation of, in response to prayer Mt. 26:53 Ac. 12:5,7 Rejoice over every repentant sinner Lk. 15:7,10 Have charge over the children of God Ps. 34:7 Ps. 91:11-12 Da. 6:22 Mt. 18:10 Are of different orders Isa. 6:1-3 1 The. 4:16 1 Pe. 3:22 Jude 9 Rev. 12:7 Are wise 2 Sa. 14:17-20 So can angels sin? 3
Apparently God is able to charge error even to angels Job 4:18 Hell was originally designed for the devil and his angels. Matt. 25:41 Those angels that fell with Satan received judgment as surely as humans do. 2 Peter 2:4 Apparently, they were judged for not keeping their own domain a sin of pride. Jude 6 When Satan fell, he took one third of the stars of heaven, a euphemism for angels, with him. Rev. 12:4 There is no instance of a demon, a fallen angel, ever repenting or changing his ways. God s angels, however obey His will. Ps. 103:20 Matt. 6:10 They remain subject to Christ. Eph. 1:21 Col. 1:16 Col. 2:10 1 Pet. 3:22 They execute the purposes of Christ. Matt. 13:41 Matt. 24:31 They are holy. Matt. 25:31 They are considered elect, like Christians. 1 Tim. 5:21 There is no instance of one of God s angels ever sinning or rebelling. Notice that most of the passages that deal with angels sinning or falling are in the past tense. Notice how their sin is associated with the fall of Lucifer. My belief is, therefore, that when Lucifer decided to try to place himself on the throne of God (Isa 14:12; Ez. 29:12-19; Lk. 10:18; 1 Ti. 3:6), the angels were given the chance to decide to follow him or to follow God. Those that decided to follow Lucifer were cast out of heaven to become demons. Those that chose God remained as His servants. Either way, the decision was permanent. I think that it is relevant that God s angels seem to be particularly sensitive to being worshiped by men. They are quick to stop that (Rev. 19:10; 22:8-9) Not to be worshiped Col. 2:18 Rev. 19:10 Rev. 22:9 4
Are examples of meekness 2 Pe. 2:11 Jude 9 Are mighty Ps. 103:20 Are holy Mt. 25:31 Are elect 1 Ti. 5:21 Are innumerable Job. 25:3 numberless Heb. 12:22 myriads Luke 2:13 multitude Psalm 68:17 myriads upon myriads, thousands of thousands Rev. 5:11 myriads upon myriads, thousands of thousands Dan. 7:10 myriads upon myriads, thousands of thousands Job 38:7 associated with the stars which are numberless Psalm 148:1-3 associated with the stars which are numberless Announced The conception of Christ Mt. 1:20-21 Lk. 1:31 The birth of Christ Lk. 2:10-12 The resurrection of Christ Mt. 28:5-7 Lk. 24:23 The ascension and second coming of Christ Ac. 1:11 The conception of John the Baptist Lk. 1:13, 36 The Mosaic Law was given to men through angels. Gal. 3:19 Heb. 2:2 Acts 7:30, 35, 38, 53 Eph. 3:8-11 The church made the mystery known to heavenly principalities and powers (i.e., angels). 1 Pet. 1:12 Angels are not authorized to reveal a different gospel. If they do, it is a false gospel. Gal. 1:8 Angels are ministering spirits sent by God to minister for those who will inherit salvation. 5
Heb. 1:13-14 Angel s ministry toward believers described: Guide Gen. 24:7, 40 Provide for 1 Kings 19:5-8 Protect Ps. 34:7 Deliver Dan. 6:22 Acts 12:7-11 Gather Matt. 24:31 Direct activities Acts 8:26 Comfort Acts 27:23-24 Minister Heb. 1:14 Angel s ministry toward unbelievers described: A destruction Gen. 19:1, 13 A curse Judges 5:23 A pestilence 2 Sam. 24:15-17 Sudden death Acts 12:23 Persecution Ps. 35:5-6 Angels food eaten by men, especially Elijah. Ps. 78:25 1 Kings 19:5-8 Will we be angels after death? What is the difference between what we ll be and what angels are? Angels were created as angels Col. 1:16 We see the distinction between humans and angels reflected in a number of biblical passages. Man was made a little lower than the angels. Ps. 8:5 The myriads of angles are clearly distinguished from the spirits of righteous men made perfect. Heb. 12:22-23 There will come a time when we will judge the angels, or rule over them. 6
1 Co. 6:3 There is a distinction between the languages of men and angels. 1 Cor. 13:1 Angels existed, and were present to witness the creation of the world, long before humans were formed. Job 38:7 Clearly, humans and angels are different orders of beings and one does not evolve from the other. Part Two: Fallen angels (Demons): Worship of Lev 17:7 Dt. 32:17 2 Ch. 11:15 Ps. 106:37 Mt. 4:9 Lk. 4:7 1 Co. 10: Ti. 4:1 Rev. 13:4 Worship of forbidden Lev. 17:7 Zec. 13:2 Rev. 9:20 Fell by pride Is. 14:12-15 Jude 6 Seen by Christ Luke 10:18 Cast out by Jesus Mt. 4:24; 8:16 Mk. 3:22 Lk. 4:41 Make war on the saints Rev. 12:7-17 Power over, given to the disciples Mt. 10:1 Mk. 6:7 Mk. 16:7 Cast out by the disciples Mk. 9:38 7
