1 Microsoft Office 2010: Advanced Q&As PowerPoint Chapter 7 How does PowerPoint determine the area to display within the marquee? (PPT 405) Microsoft Research software engineers developed the algorithms that determine the portions of the picture in the foreground. Why do some parts of the background, such as the area under her right arm and below her knees, still display? (PPT 406) The removal tool was not able to determine that those areas are part of the background. You will remove them in the next set of steps. Why did my mouse pointer change shape? (PPT 407) The mouse pointer changed to a pencil to indicate you are about to draw on a precise area of the picture. Why does a circle with a minus sign display on the dotted line? (PPT 407) That symbol indicates that you manually specified the deletion of a portion of the background. Why does some of the background remain on my picture? (PPT 407) The location where you drew your line determines the area that PowerPoint deletes. You may need to make several passes to remove all of the unwanted background. I mistakenly removed the snowboard when I tried to remove some of the background. How can I keep the snowboard in the picture? (PPT 408) You can mark the snowboard as an area to keep and then delete the background. If I marked an area with a line and now want to keep it, can I reverse my action? (PPT 408) Yes. Click the Delete Mark button (Background Removal tab Refine area) and then click the line to remove it. You also can press CTRL+Z immediately after you draw the line. The tail no longer is connected to the rest of the board, or my entire board is removed. Can I add this missing piece? (PPT 408) Yes. In the next step, you will instruct PowerPoint to keep any necessary area that was discarded. If I want to see the original picture at a later time, can I display the components I deleted? (PPT 408) Yes. If you click the Discard All Changes button (Background Removal tab Close area), all the deleted pieces will reappear. Why did my mouse pointer change shape? (PPT 409) The mouse pointer changed to indicate you are about to crop a picture.

(PPT 409) If you have not saved the file, you can undo your crops by clicking the Undo button on the Quick Access Toolbar, clicking the Reset Picture button (Picture Tools Format tab Adjust group), or pressing CTRL+Z. Should I apply an artistic effect prior to or after compressing a picture? (PPT 410) Compress a picture and then apply the artistic effect. Can I undo the compression? (PPT 410) Yes, as long as you have not closed the file. Why am I moving the picture to this location? (PPT 412) This area of the slide is where you want the picture to stop moving after she enters the slide in the upper-left corner. Are more entrance animations available? (PPT 412) Yes. Click the More button in the Animation gallery to see additional animations. You can select one of the 13 entrance animations that are displayed, or you can click the More Entrance Effects command to expand the selection. Why does the number 1 appear in a box on the left side of the picture? (PPT 412) The 1 is a sequence number and indicates Fly In is the first animation that will appear on the slide when you click the mouse. Why does a gold box appear around the From Bottom arrow? (PPT 413) From Bottom is the default entrance direction applied to the animation. Can I change this entrance effect? (PPT 413) Yes. Repeat Step 1 to select another direction. Are more emphasis effects available in addition to those shown in the Animation gallery? (PPT 414) Yes. To see additional emphasis effects, click More Emphasis Effects in the lower portion of the Animation gallery. The effects are arranged in the Basic, Subtle, Moderate, and Exciting categories. Do I need to use both an entrance and an emphasis effect, or can I use only an emphasis effect? (PPT 414) You can use one or the other effect, or both effects. Why does the number 2 appear in a box below the number 1 on the left side of the picture? (PPT 414)

3 The 2 in the numbered tag indicates a second animation is applied in the animation sequence. Are more exit effects available in addition to those shown in the Animation gallery? (PPT 415) Yes. To see additional exit effects, click More Exit Effects in the lower portion of the Animation gallery. The effects are arranged in the Basic, Subtle, Moderate, and Exciting categories. How can I tell that this exit effect has been applied? (PPT 415) The Fly Out effect is displayed in the Animation gallery (Animations tab Animation group), and the number 3 is displayed to the left of the snowboarder picture. Why does a red square appear in the middle of the circle on the Preview button when I click that button? (PPT 416) The red square indicates the animation sequence is in progress. Ordinarily, a green arrow is displayed in the circle. Why did the numbered tags change from 1, 2, 3 to 0, 1, 2? (PPT 417) The first animation now occurs automatically without a mouse click. The first and second mouse clicks now will apply the emphasis and exit animations. What is the difference between the With Previous and After Previous settings? (PPT 417) The With Previous setting starts the effect simultaneously with any prior animation; the After Previous setting starts the animation after a prior animation has ended. If the prior animation is fast or a short duration, it may be difficult for a viewer to discern the difference between these two settings. What is the difference between the duration time and the delay time? (PPT 417) The duration time is the length of time in which the animation occurs; the delay time is the length of time that passes before the animation begins. Can I type the speed in the Duration text box instead of clicking the arrow to adjust the speed? (PPT 417) Yes. Typing the numbers allows you to set a precise timing. Can I adjust the delay time I just set? (PPT 418) Yes. Click the Animation Delay up or down arrows and run the slide show to display Slide 1 until you find the time that best fits your presentation. Do I need to change the delay time? (PPT 419) No. The title text placeholder can start appearing on the slide when the snowboarder exit effect is beginning. Why is a second set of animation numbered tags starting with 0 displaying on the left side of the title text placeholder? (PPT 420)

4 They represent the three animations associated with the paragraphs in that placeholder. Why do blue lines appear around the three Rectangle effects? (PPT 421) The lines correspond to the three animation effects that you applied to the title text placeholder. The green star indicates the entrance effect, the A with the multicolor underline indicates the Font Color emphasis effect, and the black B indicates the Underline emphasis effect. Why do I see a different number after the Rectangle label? (PPT 421) PowerPoint numbers slide elements consecutively, so you may see a different number if you have added and deleted pictures, text, and other graphics. You will rename these labels in a later set of steps. Can I click the Re-Order up button at the bottom of the Animation Pane task pane instead of the Move Earlier button on the Ribbon? (PPT 421) Yes. Either button will change the animation order. Can I view the Animation Pane task pane at any time when I am adding and adjusting animation effects? (PPT 421) Yes. Click the Animation Pane button (Animations tab Advanced Animation group) to display the Animation Pane task pane. What does the Picture label represent on three animations? (PPT 422) The green entry, yellow emphasis, and red exit animations are applied to the snowboarder picture. What does the Rectangle label represent on three animations? (PPT 423) The green entry and two emphasis animations are applied to the title text placeholder. Can I move the dialog box so that I can see the effect preview? (PPT 426) Yes. Drag the dialog box title bar so that the dialog box does not cover the text box. Why do I see a preview of the effects when I click their names? (PPT 426) The Preview Effect box is selected. If you do not want to see previews, click the box to deselect it. Can I remove an animation? (PPT 427) Yes. Click None (Animations tab Animation group). You may need to click the More button to see None. Are more motion paths available in addition to those shown in the Animation gallery? (PPT 428) Yes. To see additional motion paths, click More Motion Paths in the lower portion of the Animation gallery. The motion paths are arranged in the Basic, Lines & Curves, and Special categories.

5 My entire motion path moved. How can I move only the red stopping point arrow? (PPT 429) Be certain your cursor is a two-headed arrow and not a four-headed arrow. My animation is not exactly like the path shown in Figure Can I change the path? (PPT 429) Yes. Continue adjusting the starting and stopping points and playing the animation until you are satisfied with the effect. What does the duration Auto setting control? (PPT 430) The sound will play automatically and will repeat as long as the text box is animated. Why did I need to change the option from Scribble to Curve? (PPT 432) Your custom motion path will follow the orange curves on the mountain clip, and the Curve type will create rounded edges to connect the lines you draw. The Scribble option would draw only straight lines, so the snowboarder would not carve smooth turns as he comes downhill. If my curve is not correct, can I delete it? (PPT 433) Yes. Select the motion path, press the DELETE key, and then repeat the previous steps. Can I copy the animation to an object on another slide? (PPT 434) Yes. Once you establish the desired animation effects, you can copy them to any object that can be animated on any slide. Why did my mouse pointer change shape? (PPT 434) The mouse pointer changed shape by displaying a paintbrush to indicate that the Animation Painter function is active. Can I copy the animation to more than one object simultaneously? (PPT 435) No. Unlike using the Format Painter, you must click the Animation Painter button each time you want to copy the animation to an object on the slide. Can I reverse the order of individual shapes in the SmartArt sequence? (PPT 436) No. You can reverse the order of the entire SmartArt graphic but not individual shapes within the sequence. Are the same four effects available for all transitions? (PPT 447) No. The transition effects vary depending upon the particular transition selected.
