1 Grand Lodge Convention Proceedings February 9, 10 and 11, 2012 Day s Inn Owen Sound, Ontario Grand President, Tom McMullen, called the Grand Lodge of the International ShipMasters Association to order at 0815 hours on February 9th. The Grand Lodge was opened according to the Grand Lodge ritual. Camilla Ross, Grand Chaplain, led us in the opening prayer, followed by the Canadian and American National Anthems. The Past Grand Presidents in attendance were invited to join the Grand President at the head table. Attending Past Grand Presidents were: Al Tielke, Gerald Greig, Dean Hobbs, Jack Cork, John Wellington, Russ Brohl, Ed Morris, George Haynes and Jerry Bissette Thunder Bay No. 16, Muskegon No. 21, N.E. Michigan No. 19 did not attend the convention. Grand President, McMullen, appointed the following committees: Credential Committee John Wellington Ed Morris Joe Ruch Jurisprudence Committee George Haynes Jack Cork Phil Knetchel Audit Committee Jerry Bissette Al Tileke Gerald Greig Budget Committee Seann O Donoughue Rebecca Hancock Russ Brohl The Credential Committee reports all credentials are in order. The Grand President informed the Grand Lodge that he had appointed the committees last night at the caucus, so they could perform their duties. 1

2 Minutes: Grand President, Mullen, called for the reading of the minutes of the last meeting. Motion by Lodge 2, 2 nd by Lodge 9, to dispense with the reading of the minutes. Motion carried unanimously. Grand Presidents Report: The Grand President gave his report. The report is enclosed in these proceedings. Motion by Lodge 7, 2 nd by Lodge 20, to accept report, carried unanimously Grand Secretary-Treasurer Report: The Grand Secretary-Treasurer gave his report. Motion by Lodge 4, 2 nd by Lodge 9, to accept report, carried unanimously Obituary Report: Grand Chaplain, Camilla Ross, read the list of deceased members for 2011 N.E.L.C. Committee Report: Phil Knetchel, chairman, gave his report; Full Context of his report is in these proceedings Motion by Lodge 9, 2 nd by Lodge 4, to accept report, carried unanimously. Newsletter Report: Christine Rohn-Tielke, editor of the newsletter, gave her report. Full context of her report is in these proceedings. Motion by Lodge 4, 2 nd by Lodge 9, to accept report, carried unanimously. Membership /Fundraising Report: No report Investment Committee Report: George Skuggen, Chairman of the committee, gave his report. The report is enclosed in these proceedings. Motion to accept report by Lodge 9, 2 nd by Lodge 20, carried unanimously. Scholarship Committee: Seann O Donoughue gave the report. The full report is enclosed in these proceedings. 3 Grand Presidents Award No Awards this year 9:40 Break 9:50 Reopen Old Business: Dean Hobbs reported on a Alcohol and Drug abuse program that Shipmasters would manage. After his report Grand President McMullen called for a show of hands to see what Lodges would be interested in supporting the program. There were 3 for 9 against 10:05 Recess for speakers Feb. 10, 9:30 AM open lodge New Business No. 1 Detroit Lodge No. 7 submitted a proposal in the interest of safe navigation that the Grand Lodge support both H.R.104 and S. 412 and instruct the N.E.L.C. to contact members of Congress and urge the passage of this legislation. Passed unanimously. Election of Officers Motion by Lodge 15, 2 nd by Lodge 9 to nominate Seann O Donoughue for Grand President, and to close the nomination and cast a unanimous vote. 12 yes, 0 no Motion by Lodge 23, 2 nd by Lodge 12 to nominate Rebecca Hancock for 1 st Vice President and to close the nomination and cast a unanimous vote. 12 yes, 0 no Motion by Lodge 22, 2 nd by Lodge 20 to nominate Robert Schallip as 2 nd Vice President and to close the nominations and cast a unanimous vote. 12 yes 0 no Motion by Lodge 4, 2 nd by Lodge 3 to nominate George Skuggen as Sec/Treasurer and to close the nominations and cast a unanimous vote. 12 yes 0 no The budget committee presented their budget to be voted on Saturday, February 11th.
