2 2013 Korean Government Scholarship Program (for Graduate Students) Program Objective The Korean Government Scholarship Program is designed to provide higher education in Korea for international students, with the aim of promoting international exchange in education, as well as mutual friendship amongst the participating countries. Scholarship Benefits Airfare Monthly Allowance Research Allowance (per semester) Relocation (Settlement) Allowance Language Training Fee Tuition Dissertation Printing Costs Medical Insurance Special funding for students proficient in the Korean language (TOPIK Level 5 or 6): Round-trip economy class ticket. 900,000 won (KRW) per month. Humanities and Social Sciences: 210,000 KRW Natural and Mechanic Sciences: 240,000 KRW 200,000 KRW upon arrival Full coverage Full tuition is paid by NIIED. Admission Fees are waived 500,000 ~ 800,000 KRW depending on the actual costs. 20,000 KRW/ month (limited coverage) 100,000 KRW per month (commencing from the degree program)

3 Eligibility 1. The applicant and his/her parents must have foreign citizenships. Applicants who hold Korean citizenship are not permitted to apply for this program. 2. Applicants must be under 40 years of age as of Sep. 1 st, 2013 (born after Sep. 1 st, 1973). 3. Applicants must hold a Bachelor s or Master s degree as of September 1 st, (Important) Applicants who have ever enrolled in a university in Korea will be disqualified from applying to the KGSP program. Specifically, an applicant who has previously enrolled in an undergraduate program, a master s program, a doctoral program or an exchange program in Korea cannot apply for this program. 4. Applicants must maintain a grade point average (G.P.A.) of at least 2.64 on a 4.0 scale, 2.80 on a 4. 3 scale, 2.91 on a 4.5 scale, or grades/marks/score of 80% or higher from the previously attended institution. 5. Applicants who have Korean proficiency or English proficiency may be given preference. 6. Applicants who apply for natural science and technology program may be given preference. Facilities in the residence halls: internet zone, study room, praying room, laundry room, fitness center, table tennis courts, multi-purpose outdoor playground for soccer and basketball and a kiosk. 4. Dormitory Fees per semester (for KGSP Scholars) Including Meal Plan Excluding Meal Plan $698 $300 * The above costs are based in the Spring semester of 2013 and are subject to change. ** Meal plan includes breakfast and dinner during weekdays and 3 meals during weekends and holidays. Cultural Programs for International Students 1) Field trip to historical sites held once a semester 2) Korean Cultural Experience class held once a week: tea ceremony, calligraphy, and craft. 3) International students' festival, temple stay, etc. 3. Counseling Service 1) Monthly counseling session 2) Orientation for new students: academic matters, campus life, visas, extracurricular programs for international students, etc. 4. Important Notes: Graduation Requirement 1) TOPIK level 4 or above should be acquired before submitting degree dissertation. 2) A graduate recital is required of all majors in the Master of Music degree program and a graduate exhibition is required of all majors in the Master of Fine Arts degree program. 3) Applicants must take two Korean liberal arts courses during their studies. Applicants who submit TOPIK 5 will be exempted from one Korean class; applicants who submit TOPIK 6 will be exempted from both.
