Xie Wei Jing Master Michael Tse & the Tse Qigong Centre Master Michael Tse has spent over 30 years training with some of the most famous and venerated teachers in Hong Kong and China. At the age of 14, he began studying Wing Chun with his uncle. In exchange for his studies he agreed to help his uncle gather herbs and prepare herbal medicines. After his uncle passed away, he knew he wanted to continue to develop his Wing Chun skill. my principle. Master Michael Tse Simple & natural is my method. True & sincere is Then, one day, while reading the Hong Kong newspaper, he saw an ad for Wing Chun studies with Grandmaster Ip Chun. He called and began to study with him in classes and private lessons. He knew that this was the real thing and he was proud to be a student of Grandmaster Ip Man s son as everyone knew that his father was the best for Wing Chun skill. Master Tse found that the more he practised, the more he became aware of his bones 1 becoming stronger and his Qi improving, especially when doing the Siu Lim Tao form for a long time. He came to realise that Qigong was the essence of Chinese medicine and also of martial arts. He knew that this was the next step for his development. First he began studying Hard Qigong, a way of training the body to withstand strong blows and develop
power using special breathing techniques and movements. His Hard Qigong teacher knew of his interest in soft Qigong and so he said that he should study with Grandmaster Yang Meijun, a Qigong master in China and made the introductions. When he met Grandmaster Yang Meijun, she was already over 80 years old and she was famous not only in China but throughout Hong Kong and other parts of Asia who were waking up to the Qigong heat emanating from China. This was the early 1980 s, a time when China had just begun to open its doors to the rest of the world, having secluded themselves during the Cultural Revolution. Family skill that had never been opened to the public was now being revealed and so it was an exciting time. Having been accepted by Grandmaster Yang Meijun, Master Tse travelled to China several times a year where he often stayed with her, learning her family skill of Kunlun Dayan Qigong, a complete system of Qigong that was over 1800 years old. Even when he moved to England, he would return to visit and learn from her, reaching a very high level. Eventually, his Sifu (his teacher) asked him to start teaching the skill as she wanted to see her family s Dayan Qigong skill pass on to the world. In 1989, whilst visiting his Qigong teacher, he met Master Wu Chun Yuen in a Beijing park while he was teaching students Northern Shaolin skill. He was very impressed with the lightness and flexibility of Master Wu who was already in his 60 s. He then began to study with him and learn what he now calls, Chun Yuen Quan, in honour of Master Wu who passed away in Chen Taijiquan was also becoming more known during the 80 s and Master Tse began studying with his Sifu in Hong Kong. However, when his Sifu retired, Master Tse later began studying with Grandmaster Chen Xiao Wang, thus completing the five skills offered by the Tse Qigong Centre:- Qigong, Wing Chun, Chun Yuen Quan, Hard Qigong, Chen Taijiquan. He also studied Chinese Astrology and Feng Shui and uses these to help people have a more balanced life. In 1990, already living and teaching in England, Master Tse founded the Tse Qigong Centre and Qi Magazine as a way of helping people to gain better health using the traditional Chinese skill he had learned from his teachers. Master Tse is also author of several books, including Qigong for Health & Vitality, Qigong for Healing and Relaxation, Wing Chun Kung Fu, Qi Journeys, Wild Goose Qigong 1 st 64 and 2nd 64, and Chen Taijiquan for Beginners. He has also produced several DVDs. In addition he has been the feature of many TV and radio programmes including the BBC, ITV, Hong Kong Peal TV, Komo TV, Cable Martial Arts TV and numerous national newspapers. 2 The more people who join in, the happier I am because it means more people are growing healthier. 4 Dayan Qigong Qigong is a Chinese health exercise made up of gentle movements that connect with the acupuncture points and meridians of our body. The word Qigong literally means energy work. Using relaxation and breathing along with these special movements, we have Qigong. Qigong will help you to relax and become more aware of your body. As we practise more, we will begin to notice changes in our body including more flexibility, energy and stamina. This is because the Qi is working to heal any old illnesses or injuries and to open the channels so that the Qi can flow naturally, making us feel younger and more alive. There are many types and styles of Qigong, but the style which you will learn is called the Kunlun Dayan Qigong system. I have felt such a difference in the way I handle my stress - really clear & relaxed. Hiang Lim Kunlun Dayan Qigong System There are several forms in the Kunlun Dayan Qigong system, not only Wild Goose Qigong. Each form has its own special emphasis. For instance, Dayan (Wild Goose) Qigong is good for overall health and flexibility of the body. Balancing Gong is good for beginners, helping them to learn the right posture and relaxation. Jade Pillar Gong is good for the spine and Dayan Palm is a very vigorous form which combines soft, gentle movements with jumping and kicking to make the body stronger and lighter. Also included in the system are several meditation and healing methods which are used for cultivating the body and mind. In the past, there were 72 forms and methods in the system and, today, just over half of these have survived. 3
Qigong is wonderful. I am 76 and I have been amazed by what Qigong has done for me in three short months. Pauline Wickham History Nearly two thousand years ago during the Jin Dynasty ( AD), Kunlun Shan, which is a mountain range near Tibet, was home to many Daoists. The monks living there would spend their days studying Daoist teachings, hoping to eventually receive enlightenment and immortality. Kunlun Shan was also home to many wild geese called Da Yan (Big Wild Goose). They were not normal geese, as these birds, believed to be the Bar Headed Goose, live twice as long and fly higher than any other geese in the world. The Da Yan became a longevity symbol to the monks who observed these special birds closely. They began to imitate their movements and combine this with Chinese medicine knowledge, eventually forming sets of health exercises known as Dayan Qigong. The Jin Dynasty saw the rapid expansion of both Buddhism and Daoism. One Buddhist monk named Dao An was the translator of many Buddhist texts and connected with the Pure Land (Amitabha) Buddhism particularly. This type of Buddhism concentrated only on chanting the name of Amitabha Buddha so that they might be reborn in his Western Pure Land. The idea of letting go of the mind and body so that enlightenment will happen naturally follows the principles of the Kunlun Dayan Qigong skill. Hence, Dao An was considered the spiritual founder of the skill. Grandmaster Yang Meijun It is because of this special lady that all of us have the opportunity to learn the Kunlun Dayan Qigong. When she was 13 years old, her grandfather began to teach her secretly, making her promise not to teach anyone until she was 70 years old as this was the promise he had made to the Daoist monk who had taught him. Although she was only supposed to pass on the skill to one other person, she had survived the Japan War and Cultural Revolution where many others did not. She did not want to see the skill lost so she decided to slowly open her skill to the public after the finish of the Cultural Revolution. I feel my mind and body are more relaxed and strengthened and that I am able slowly to progress, how encouraging! Juliet Sebastian 4
Qigong is so good for health of mind and body. When I do it regularly, it relaxes me and I don t get ill. Frances Eales What will I learn in class? When you come to class, you will see people at many different levels, some beginners, some seniors, as everyone learns individually following a syllabus from beginning, foundation movements to more advanced. Balancing Gong These movements form the basis of our learning, helping us to find the right posture, breathing and relaxation. Balancing Gong is good for circulation, flexibility and balance as well as helping arthritis, backache, joint problems and coordination. These movements are based upon the principles of the Dayan Qigong and were created by Master Tse to help beginners. Healthy Living Gong Parts I, II, III Healthy Living Gong is a set of exercises also created by Master Michael Tse, based upon all his years of Qigong and martial art experience. Each of the three sets of movements strengthen the body and increase vital energy, which we call Qi. Part I focuses on relaxation, Part II works on improving fitness and coordination and Part III cultivates power and physical strength. Wild Goose (Dayan) Qigong Unlike the previous stand alone movements, Wild Goose Qigong is a series of connected movements which make up a form. There are two parts, the first 64 movements and the second 64 movements. The 1st 64 form works on post natal illnesses and can clear up old injuries as well. The 2nd 64 form works on prenatal illnesses, or weaknesses in the body with which we were born. In these forms, there are a variety of fluttering, shaking and jerking movements which rid the body of toxins. Meditation We need meditation to balance movement as movement is Yang and meditation is Yin. When we practise forms, we open our acupuncture points and channels, clearing blockages and releasing the negative Qi. This means our Qi can flow smoothly. Meditation allows us to gather and store the fresh Qi that we have gathered during our practice. As we reach higher levels, then meditation also helps to develop our wisdom and our Sky Eye potential so that we can sense more. 5
Wing Chun Kuen Wing Chun is a martial art that originated over 400 years ago in the Southern Shaolin Temple. It is a clever martial art in that it relies on sensitivity, footwork and speed to outwit an opponent, rather than using strength to try and control and beat them. That is why Wing Chun is ideal for the smaller person or woman as you do not need to be strong and powerful to win. Wing Chun is suitable for everyone, since it does not rely on physical strength. If we use strength to win in Wing Chun, we are going against the skill principles. The higher level of Wing Chun Kuen is to use less energy to defeat the strong energy. Traditional Chinese martial arts do not use a grading system for skill. In Wing Chun Kuen, it is our Chi Sau that proves our level of skill. Nor does Wing Chun require a uniform, only comfortable clothing and footwear that we can easily move in. Every class is a way of life for me and my life is more interesting, healthy and fulfilling as a result. Clive Stanton 6
History Wing Chun Kuen is named after a woman, Yim Wing Chun, and its roots go back some 400 years to the Southern Shaolin Temple. At that time the Shaolin Temple was home to some of China s best martial artists and a refuge for freedom fighters who opposed the ruling Qing Government. Its strength grew and this aroused the concern and fear of the government and so an army was sent to attack the monastery and wipe out the monks. At first they were unsuccessful, then with the help of some traitors within Shaolin, the temple was finally burnt down. Many of the monks were killed but among those who survived was the Abbess Ng Mui. Ng Mui found refuge at the White Crane Temple on Tai Leung Mountain near the Yunnan-Szechuan border. In a town nearby lived a bean-curd seller called Yim Yee and his young daughter, Yim Wing Chun. It was whilst selling their bean-curd that they met and befriended Ng Mui. Ng Mui taught Yim Wing Chun the martial art skill that she developed and even named it after her young student. Wing Chun is the best thing I do all week. It keeps me energised and humble for the week ahead. Al Latif Grandmaster Ip Chun There is much more to the legend and there is some debate over its accuracy, but certainly Wing Chun Kuen has become one of the most popular styles of Kung Fu in the world. Its widespread popularity can be credited to one person, the late Grandmaster Ip Man. During his younger days, whilst living in Foshan, South China, he became famous for his Wing Chun Kung Fu and was undefeated in any attacks. He refined and developed Wing Chun, but it was only when he moved to Hong Kong that he began to teach and spread his knowledge. Ip Man taught many, the most famous being the film star and martial artist Bruce Lee. Ip Man died in Since that time his eldest son, Ip Chun, has carried on his father s teaching. He has kept the skill he inherited true, following the principle of using less strength and energy to defeat an opponent. 7
I now see everything differently and I solve problems the most direct way but never use brute force to do so. Yun Ki Lee What will I learn in class? People take up martial arts for many reasons. Some study to improve their health & fitness, some to learn how to defend themselves, some for an increased sense of confidence and others simply for a pastime. The Wing Chun class, with its high level of teaching and the friendly relaxed atmosphere, caters for all these differing needs. Chi Sau - Sticking Hands Chi Sau is the practical training of the applications found in the forms. Whilst training with a partner you will develop sensitivity, footwork and timing. Soon you will begin to understand how to use an opponent s energy against himself/ herself. Regular practice develops instinctive reactions allowing you to adapt to change without thinking. For successful self defence, this is essential. Chi Sau is like a game and is not meant to be treated as fighting or sparring. It allows you to develop your skill in a safe environment because you can relax and let go. Forms Wing Chun has three forms. These are Siu Lim Tao (for training stillness and Gong Lik), Tsum Kiu (for training footwork and turning) and Biu Ji (for training special attacking techniques using the fingers and elbow). Wooden Dummy - Muk Yan Jong The Wooden Dummy training helps us to bring together all we have learnt in Chi Sau and forms to polish our fighting techniques. It also allows us to practise Wing Chun kicks and train the accuracy of our stepping and body position. Weapons Wing Chun has two weapons: The Six and a Half Point Pole and the Baat Jam Dao (Wing Chun Knives). The more you train these weapons, the stronger your bones will become and so your Qi will develop to a very high level. 8
Chen Style Taijiquan In the west, Taijiquan is widely known as an ancient health exercise, but if you look back in history, you will find that Taijiquan actually had a very different emphasis. It was originally created as a means of self defence and was a powerful martial art skill. The original style of Taijiquan is Chen Taijiquan which was created by the Chen family. Taijiquan literally means Yin/Yang Fist. The Chen Taijiquan skill covers both external movement and internal training and is characterised by its unique spiral energy used to throw an opponent away. To become good at Chen Taijiquan takes practice and must include push hands (Tui Shou) training. However, the benefits you get from the practice make the effort well worthwhile. Taiji gives me a sense of well-being in a chaotic world and the teaching method increases the effectiveness of the discipline. John Graham 9
History In 16th century China there lived a man called Chen Wang Ting. His martial arts skill was such that it is said that he single handedly defeated one thousand bandits. He was of the ninth generation of the Chen Family, from Chenjiagou (Chen Village), Henan Province. After an adventurous life as a warrior, he returned to his village to develop his martial skills. Combining movements from Qi Jigaung s Long Fist and Daoist breathing techniques he created five forms of Taijiquan (Tai Chi) and Pao Chui (Cannon Fist). He is said to be the creator of the original Taijiquan. After five generations, Chen Taijiquan was passed to Chen Changxing. He taught Yang Luchan who later went on to create Yang Style Taijiquan. Later this developed into the other styles of Wu, Woo and Sun. Together with Chen, these comprise today s five major styles of Taijiquan skill. Class is like a breath of fresh air from the everyday hustle and bustle. Everyone has wonderful energy and is really kind. Dingan Mikhize Grandmaster Chen Xiao Wang Much of today s Chen teachings can be attributed to Grandmaster Chen Fake. He was responsible for spreading his family s skill and his exploits are now legendary. In 1957 Chen Fake died and today the head of the Chen skill is Grandmaster Chen Xiao Wang, the grandson of Chen Fake. Grandmaster Chen Xiao Wang is one of the most famous Taiji masters living today. He began studying his family s skill when he was just eight years old and has gone on to win several gold medals at National Wushu Championships. His Taiji skill and depth of knowledge is truly remarkable. 10
You feel that you have learned with your whole body and mind after each session. Hung Tran What will I learn in class? 19, 25 Movement Forms The 19 and 25 movement forms are the beginning foundation forms taught in class. These will help to cover principles found in both the old and new frame forms and help us to learn to move from the waist and Dantian, develop relaxation and right posture. Laojia - Old Frame In traditional Taijiquan all forms are called Jia. Jia means frame. Lao means old and Xin means new. Today the Taijiquan that most people study comes from the Old Frame. The Old Frame was created by the 14 th generation Chen Taijiquan master Chen Changxing. He combined all the original Taijiquan forms into one long form. The Old Frame contains big circling movements which all come from the Dantian. Xinjia- New Frame After more than 100 years, the great grandson of Chen Changxing, Grandmaster Chen Fake developed the Old Frame into another high level form which we call Xinjia - New Frame. The movements are based on Laojia but the circular movements are smaller which makes the spiral energy both more obvious and more demanding. Tui Shou Together with a partner, Tui Shou (push hands) helps you train to develop sensitivity. Through Tui Shou you also learn how to apply your spiral energy and how to overcome and use your opponent s energy to your advantage. Eventually you learn to defend against strong attacks by using less energy. Weapons Chen Taijiquan has many weapon forms. These include broadsword, straight sword, spear, double sword and big broadsword. Weapon forms are taught in class after you have completed learning the beginning forms and will help you to extend your Taijiquan knowledge and use of energy. 11
Chun Yuen Quan Chun Yuen Quan is a skill that originated from Northern Shaolin and then passed down through the Beijing Opera. The forms have retained more of their martial qualities than modern Wushu and have more intricate weapon forms such as the longtasseled sword and long flag Dao. Chun Yuen Quan is very good for health and will make the body light and flexible. Chun Yuen Quan is ideal for creating very strong Qi and fitness. It will also lift the spirit and make you feel very good.. As we get older, it is very easy for our bodies to become heavy and lose some mobility. However, when the channels in the body are open and the Qi can flow without obstruction, the body will feel light, just like a child s. Today we all spend too much time at the computer or in front of the television. This makes us have a Yin body that can easily become weak or ill. Master Tse says, When we do not challenge ourselves enough, our bodies will only become weaker and weaker - so will our immune system. With weak immunity, it is easy for even a cold or flu to become something very serious. When our immune system and internal organs are healthy- when our external body is strong but flexible, then we can manage all kinds of situations, even serious illness. Chun Yuen Quan always gives me energy and it helps clear the mind and body of the day s work. Peter Baird 12
Any good skill can be practised no matter whether a person is young or old. Chinese say, Good skill is for life. Today, this concept is hard for people to accept as they are used to sports where only young people can stand the training and even then, they too, sustain injuries. With Chun Yuen Quan, however, if you practise in the right way and with the right attitude, your body will only get more and more healthy, no matter what your age. My posture has improved tremendously and I feel more relaxed and energised. Michael Wang History Chun Yuen Quan is a martial art skill that is also very good for health. The lineage was originally from the Northern Shaolin tradition but then passed down to the Chinese opera where it actually retained many of its traditional elements. Master Wu Chun Yuen, who taught Michael Tse, learned the skill from Master Wang Ping who was a trained the opera actors. In Chinese opera, there are many performances which portray historical events, particularly those honouring famous generals. So it was important that the actors knew genuine martial art skill so that their performance was both vivid and true. Master Wang, because of his opera training, was very flexible and light. However, due to the sensitive times in which they lived, they could not always practise openly. So Master Wang devised Every class is a joy and it makes me feel relaxed and strong. Marie Ball ways to help his students to practise without it being obvious that they were doing so. Instead of practising with a sword and long tassel, they might only use a stick with a long string. However, this in no way stunted Master Wu Chun Yuen s skill and he developed to a very high level that not many people can reach. Grandmaster Wu Chun Yuen was a true martial art gentleman and his skill level was very high. He was also a very humble person and loved the martial art skill that he practised every day. 13
What will I learn in class? Tse Qigong Centre Warm Ups Making the body relaxed and loose so that Qi can flow through all the channels is very important in order to avoid injuries. For Chun Yuen we have warm up exercises that begin with opening the waist, then the joints. Later we have different kinds of stretching for the tendons and muscles and also jumping and kicking to develop Light Gong (a light body). Master Tse has created and/or arranged these warm up movements according to his deep Qigong knowledge of how Qi flows in the body and how the internal organs are vital for good health. Xing Shou & Great Sadness Gong (Da Bei Gong) Two of the beginning forms in the Chun Yuen Quan syllabus which you will learn are Xing Shou and Great Sadness Gong (Da Bei Gong). Xing Shou literally means Style Hand and helps to establish many of the basic Chun Yuen postures that are used throughout the system. Great Sadness Gong works for coordination and fitness and it is particularly beneficial for the lungs, helping to release stagnant Qi. It will help anyone suffering from depression, asthma or other breathing problems and at the same time improve blood pressure, fitness and flexibility. Damo Staff The staff is a light and flexible weapon and is enjoyable to handle, even if you have never practised with a weapon before. The staff is a very typical Northern Shaolin weapon. In the past it was often carried by travelling monks from the Shaolin temple. Today it is will help us improve our coordination, improve circulation and balance our energy. It generates a lot of internal heat and so those people suffering from damp and cold conditions such as arthritis find it a great benefit. In addition, it is great fun. Other Chun Yuen Quan Forms There are many other Chun Yuen Quan forms and these include Great Compassion Gong, Miju Quan (Secret Ancestor Fist), Erlian Quan, Yanjing Quan (Green Swallow Fist). There are also many weapon forms which train both body and mind. Some of these forms are Five Tiger Breaking the Gate Dao, Plum Blossom Spear and Nine Section Whip. However, the pinnacle of the skill must be the long-tasseled sword forms such as Green Dragon Sword, White Crane Sword and the Dragon & Phoenix Sword. They are elegant and stylish and would have been breath-taking on the opera stage and would captivate audiences even today. 14
Hard Qigong Hard Qigong has been around for many hundreds of years. It was a skill originally used to train the body to withstand strong blows and attacks in the days when there were no guns but only weapons of spears, staffs, Daos (broadswords) and knives. The results are a life changing lesson, and the possibility of living a healthy active life, regardless of age. Rossa Cassilas Today, we can see touring Shaolin Monks lying on a bed of steel spikes or breaking spears against their throats. Whilst all this seems quite amazing, it is actually just training the body with special breathing techniques and movements to make both the internal and external body stronger. Hard Qigong is not just for martial artists or men wanting to be stronger. Many ladies study Hard Qigong because it can dramatically alter their health for the better. It improves circulation so that they have warm hands and feet as well as giving them more stamina. Health Benefits - Healthy Bones & Good Circulation Because of the kind of breathing techniques involved, Hard Qigong is very good for developing the lungs and helping such problems as asthma and depression. It is also very good for developing the bones and energy levels so it can help reduce risk of osteoporosis. Many people think that taking lots of supplements can make the bones very strong. However, if we do not develop more Qi than what we use in our everyday living, our bones will slowly get weaker with age. Bone marrow is what feeds our bones and is created from blood and Qi which are connected with the kidneys. Hard Qigong creates very 15
powerful Qi and so it iscan help many kinds of problems or conditions, including arthritis, irregular or painful menstruation, back or joint pain and even lack of confidence and direction, as it makes the kidney energy strong. Therefore it useful not only for martial artists but for those wanting to benefit their health. I began to feel really good and my attitude became more positive in my daily life. Henry Sheehan How can I learn? Hard Qigong is not taught in classes - only through special seminars. These seminars are not offered every year and so one should take the opportunity to learn when possible as it may be some years before it is offered again. Level I Hard Qigong At this level, it is mainly breathing techniques that are used to develop the Qi and strengthen the internal organs. After reaching a good level, it only takes a few repetitions of the exercises to open the body and to feel full of energy. This is one of the wonderful things about Hard Qigong. Regular practice will give us a lot of stamina to work both physically and mentally. Further Training There are seven levels of the Hard Qigong skill taught by the Tse Qigong Centre. Each level has its own special test to see if the student has reached a good standard of Qi before they progress futher. Michael Tse says, When I learned Hard Qigong, we had to do many different kinds of tests, the final one being run over by a large lorry. Of course, it is not easy to reach this standard and it requires a lot of dedication. A Hard Qigong test is not one you can fake or otherwise you can be injured. Hard Qigong can be a very powerful skill and it requires proper instruction. If we do not do the movements correctly, then we will not get the maximum benefit for the time spent practising. Chinese have a saying, Every poison can be a medicine and every medicine can be a poison. No matter how good the skill, if we do not respect it and where it came from, then instead of getting benefit we may get something else. 16
Qigong Treatment Whenever we are ill we can generally recover with some rest and some simple Qigong movements. Today, however, many of us do not allow our bodies to recover because life is so busy. We often feel there is no time to rest, and more importantly, we do not trust ourselves and listen to how we feel. Treatment has improved my general health immensely, but best of all, my asthma inhalers have now lain unused this year. Carol Kinghorn After my first treatment, my pain was significantly reduced and my body felt light and relaxed. Roman Daly When we study Qigong we know when and how to rest as we learn how to meditate which calms our mind and spirit. We also know how to move through our study of the Qigong exercises. When the Qi is strong, then illness will go and we can even help prevent ourselves falling ill in the future. Qigong healing is when a Qigong master uses his Qi to heal a patient. In treating a patient, Master Tse gives his own Qi to make the patient s Qi stronger and he will also use Tui Na (Chinese Massage) to open up the patient s acupuncture points and smooth their channels. The patient s Qi will then be able to flow smoothly and any negative Qi will be released and fresh Qi recharged. In the end, he teaches the patient some Qigong movements suitable for their condition. By practising these exercises, the patient can regain their Qi and recover from their illness more quickly. Master Tse has used his Qigong healing to help many people with a wide range of problems and has had very positive results. People with most kinds of problems will benefit and enjoy increased energy and health. 17
Chinese Horoscopes Some people are sensitive about money, Some people fall ill very easily, some people get into a lot of fights, some people are very good at studying. All of this depends on their nature and the patterns emanating from it. The results of having my horoscope done helped to guide me at an uncertain time in my life. It showed when would be the best time to change my career and also what my strengths were in this regard. Jessica Blackwell When we are born, this time and date is represented by certain elements which we call the Five Elements. These are:- Five Elements of water, wood, fire, metal and earth. Each element has a special energy which it symbolises and it is the arrangement of these elements according to our birthdate that make us who we are. There are two common types of Chinese Horoscope reading and these are Ba Zi and Tzi Mei. Both use the elements of our birthdate. So according to the birth time, day, month and year, we 18
can learn so much. We can find the career, the partner, the area to live that will suit us best. For example, you might need to find a strong partner to support you and so you will make a good assistant rather than being your own boss. Others have enough supporting elements (energy) in their horoscope that makes their position very strong and so they should not work for anyone else but have their own business instead. Horoscopes can also tell us about our health, showing us the weaker and stronger times in our life, as well as love and children. Relationships, career, friendships, money and health are all written in our Chinese horoscope. Planning your Life According to your Talents Chinese astrology has thousands of years of history and Chinese parents from the Emperor to the ordinary person will give the date of birth of their child to a Chinese Horoscope master to find out what is good for their new baby and what is not good. People also check before they get married that their horoscopes match. Today we have many problems in our lives because we do not understand ourselves and we do not change. However, if we want to change our fate to make it better, we can do more good deeds to help other people, we can practise Qigong to make ourselves healthy. Master Tse has a great deal of experience with Ba Zi and Tzi Mei and has been doing consulations for people that have helped them a great deal. 19
Feng Shui Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese skill for creating a better living and working environment. Literally Feng means wind and Shui means water. These are the basic elements for living which are continually moving and flowing. However, once these do not flow they become stagnant, creating negative Qi (energy). If you live in an area with influences that adversely affect the flow of energy, you will not be healthy and it can even bring you bad luck and affect your future. However, if you live in an area where the energy is good, then your life will also be positive. History Feng Shui has a long history that is many centuries old. Originally, Feng Shui skills were used for finding burial plots called Yin Houses and were reserved for royalty and the very wealthy. Emperors of China would use the skill of a Feng Shui Master to find an auspicious burial site to ensure their future generations would have good fortune. This task alone often took the Feng Shui master many years to do. Today, Feng Shui is more commonly used by private individuals and businesses who are interested in improving their health, fortunes and quality of life. Feng Shui helped us to use different eyes when buying our new home. Instead of looking only at decorations and furnishings, we first looked at the area around the home. Mrs Hayes 20
How it works Feng Shui not only deals with the internal environment but the external. If the external environment is very bad, then no matter what is done internally, it will not have a lasting effect. However, usually there are things which can be done to alter or help redirect the negative Qi and enhance the good Qi. When doing a Feng Shui survey, the first thing Master Tse does is to make an external viewing of the building, noting anything which can cause problems. Then, using the Lo Pan (Chinese Compass), he can tell which direction will bring good or bad influences. Each direction is associated with a particular star and number. Each star also has its own particular energy. For example, the number eight star corresponds with money. Other stars relate to illness, celebration, success, relationships, luck (good/bad), popularity, birth and death. He will then survey the inside of the building and will note any problem areas. Good Feng Shui can improve or help your health, career, prosperity and family harmony. Master Tse is available for Feng Shui consultations for both homes or business. He will visit your residence and afterwards he will prepare a written report which is based upon the findings at the property as well as the birth date of the head of the house or business. 21 If the property was near a busy road, was tight or did not have enough light, we would not even view it. As for inside, we looked at how the space itself would affect our health, our jobs and even our marriage. Mrs. Hayes environment and how we are affected by it. Just as we use Qigong to tune in to our body, Feng Shui can help us to understand our Jane Pollard
