The new SL-400 is the latest addition to Thermo King's SL range for trailers. The new system responds directly to expressed customer needs in key areas such as load protection, cost management, performance and ease of use and simply bristles with cold chain innovation. The system, which uses R-404A, is extremely efficient, even during pulldown and recovery and gives precise but economical temperature control at all set points. Delivery cycle times are greatly reduced by virtue of its speed in pulling down to 0 C, which is 40 minutes quicker than its predecessor. Where certain delicate goods are concerned, the pull-down performance is a critical factor; grapes for example will deteriorate more in 10 minutes at 35 C than in 15 hours at 20 C. This effectively provides an extended shelf-life for fresh produce which has been loaded directly from harvest at ambient temperatures. Recovery is 55% faster than before and this will give the remaining load that extra protection, especially where multiple delivery drops require frequent door openings. 2 2 WHAT S NEW THERMO KING s NEW SL-400 Using Thermo King s latest Smart Reefer controller (fewer keys for simpler operation) with its optional (and highly convenient) in-cab controls, the SL-400 is designed for ease of use and, most significantly, the reduction of driver error to a minimum. Thanks to new selectable, Discharge Air Control technology, there s no risk of top freezing occurring with fresh produce. The new MP-VI Smart Reefer features Thermo King s new OptiSet system which allows the operator to pre-determine up to 10 pre-set temperature management programmes to suit various types of produce. This greatly simplifies the transporter's job and further minimises the risk of load damage due to driver error. The pre-set programmes enable the operator not only to ensure that specific loads are provided with the optimum conditions in transit, but also that the maximum possible economy of operation is delivered by keeping unit operating time to a minimum. Another revolutionary feature is the new evaporator blower design which provides more air flow and air throw, without incurring any noise, fuel consumption or engine-loading penalties. Indeed being up to 200 kg lighter than its nearest comparable rival gives the SL-400 owner a significant weight advantage on every load. To enhance the overall performance, Thermo King has added an Electronic Throttling Valve (ETV). This, on command from the controller, constantly controls refrigerant flow for the performance required. When carrying fresh produce, the ETV provides temperature modulation to maintain moisture content and maximise shelf-life. The economics achieved are substantial. In side-byside tests, the SL-400's nearest rival consumed up to 40% more fuel. With fuel accounting for close to half the total life cost of a system (and fuel costs rising) this is no small advantage. Compliance with HACCP procedures is provided by the onboard DAS datalogger, recording temperatures, operating modes and events for download to PC or printing of a delivery docket. An optional innovation, R:COM, permits the wireless downloading of this critical data from the SL-400 to the office, thus saving further time in the delivery cycle. Home Delivery Solutions with New Thermo King V-200 Max TC & TCI Models The continuing growth of e-commerce in the burgeoning home delivery and internet grocery business has prompted Thermo King to extend and further develop its range of small truck and van refrigeration units. Accordingly Thermo King will be announcing new additions to its V-200 MAX TC/TCI range of dual-temperature units at the IAA Commercial Vehicle show, which are all aimed specifically at the supermarket and internet home delivery market sector. As well as exhibiting one of its latest V-200 MAX TCI 20 units, Thermo King is also staging a symposium on e-commerce and logistics of home delivery, the day before the show begins. The newest TCI concept offers the operator the flexibility to transport any combination of frozen, chilled and ambient produce in small trucks or vans, including both compartments for either frozen or chilled. The temperature of each compartment is operated separately by the driver from within the cab, ensuring precise and independent temperature control. This system provides total flexibility in the use of a small truck or van with two or more compartments. Small fridge vehicles using this new TCI multi-temperature concept are already being operated in the UK by Tesco and other Thermo King units are used by the world s largest internet delivery company, Webvan Home Delivery Service in the US. Five new versions of the V200 series are being offered, all with bi-temperature

3 3 WHAT S NEW UTS Undermount for Trucks This innovative new package delivers unmatchable performance and reliability, lower operating costs and better resale values too. Rival makes may be cheaper but the UTS delivers much more favourable whole life costs. Improved multi-drop performance and lower operating costs Compared with similar units from other manufacturers, the UTS s economical TK3.95 diesel engine, the highly efficient scroll compressor and durable Poly-V drive belt, delivers a quieter, more fuel-efficient performance with a much faster pull-down and temperature recovery. All of these are important factors especially when used on high street deliveries with very frequent door openings. Because Thermo King's exclusive Scroll compressor is more efficient than other systems, it requires less fuel leading to reduced operating costs as well as environmental advantages associated with lower CO2 emissions. With 87% fewer moving parts, the system is highly reliable and designed to have a longer working life with fewer repairs. Recognising the importance of low noise levels for urban deliveries, the UTS 500 Undermount has also been developed with Thermo King's "whisper quiet" technology. A significant decrease in noise operation, and Ultra Slim evaporators (only 130 mm or 155 mm height) to allow maximum load space. Some offer two small ES100 MAX evaporators (600x505x155 mm) to work with smaller load compartments. All use R-404A refrigerant. All of the new models can operate on 12/24 volt DC. Some are intended only for road operation use, with no electric standby option, while other versions are available for either single or three phase standby work. Thermo King s latest developments in small vehicle, multi-temperature refrigeration technology, provide operators with total flexibility in the logistics of delivering produce between the food stores and the home or shops. Furthermore, they place Thermo King firmly at the forefront of this specialist sector. levels 50% quieter than competitive systems has been achieved by repositioning the belt drive system and utilising noise absorption materials. Overnight standby performance is also boosted with a 33% more powerful 380V, 3-phase 7.5kW (10hp) electric motor and when defrost is needed, the high capacity TherMax heating system speeds up the defrost cycle. Thermo King s advanced Smart Reefer microprocessor controller is fitted as standard along with the Cycle Sentry stop/start control system and there s a choice of the UTS-E remote evaporator or the ultra slim TLE-6. Options include the DAS (data acquisition system) for comprehensive temperature monitoring, a bypass oil filter which stretches maintenance intervals from 750 hours to 1,000 hours and magnetic door switches to automatically turn the system off when the vehicle doors are open and thus avoid the ingress of warm air. Racing Ahead with Thermo King! The Daytona 24 hours is undoubtedly the hottest event on the American endurance racing calendar, so what could be more appropriate than seeing Thermo King's logo emblazoned on bonnet and flanks of one of the hottest contestants, the Porsche GT3R. After all, Thermo King has led the world in transport refrigeration since inventing the system back in 1938, so this cool cosponsorship, shared with French trailer builder Chereau, gives the Porsche team that winning flavour. Look out for Porsche, and Thermo King on the podium from now on.

4 4 Cool Data Solutions from Thermo King SOLUTIONS From the most basic to the most sophisticated temperature monitoring requirements, Thermo King's comprehensive range of data logging equipment has a system to satisfy every operator's needs. Analysing this data is made easy with Thermo King's specially developed software Wintrac, and with Thermo King's new R:COM system the information is now even easier to access. Remote access to data with R:COM R:COM is a new generation communication solution developed in response to the growing demand for a low cost wireless method of exchanging information between the vehicle mounted data recorder and office based PCs. With R:COM, there is no need to physically connect the data logger to a laptop or printer. All data from vehicle-mounted loggers is downloaded automatically to an office PC and appended to the appropriate Wintrac file, via a radio based local area network as soon as the vehicle enters the depot. This is all achieved automatically, with no human effort and most importantly no increase in running costs. For any alarm situations that arise, in addition to an audible alarm, an or SMS message is immediately sent to the person responsible. R:COM also has the flexibility to be used as a logistics tool for effective traffic management. The system allows each vehicle to be tagged with a description, and will show on screen which vehicles are available in the depot. R:COM supports the complete range of Thermo King truck and trailer data loggers, giving operators easy access to management data that will assist in improving the effectiveness of their operation, increase vehicle utilisation and reduce costs. Monitors and records the various functions of the temperature control unit, as well as temperatures in up to 7 locations, giving an audible alarm notification of any values outside pre-programmed parameters. 5 5 SOLUTIONS Wintrac 4 the key to effective temperature data management Wintrac 4, simple to use Windows-based software designed by Thermo King specifically for operators of temperature controlled fleets, can be used for fast effective analysis of data downloaded from any of Thermo King's range of data loggers. Once the data is downloaded using a laptop or remotely with R:COM Wintrac's easily viewed graphical or tabular data quickly show any alarms or unusual situations that have arisen. A powerful new query feature allows quick identification of any files with specific alarms or out-of-range sensor values. Further analysis can be performed for effective troubleshooting: identifying specific problems and more importantly their causes, so that they can be addressed and the situation remedied. Data can also be easily transferred to in-house management software systems. AccuTrac For Trucks Complete with its own built-in printer for on-the-spot printouts, AccuTrac is an extremely user-friendly, compact data logger designed for any make of temperature controlled truck or van. Continually monitors and displays information for four different compartments, and can track events, such as door openings and defrost, that may affect cargo conditions. 6 6 DON T MISS THE BUS Thermo King the Total HVAC System Supplier for Bus Climate Control Thermo King is underlining its leading position as a total HVAC system supplier with the development of innovative new air conditioning concepts as well as stylish new heating components. New products featured at IAA include a major innovation in bus HVAC the new AquaClime combined heating/cooling system, three new rooftop units for City, Midi and Minibuses, and a brand new convector range. AquaClime Thermo King s Aquaclime system is the first real innovation the bus HVAC market has seen for decades. The low-cost, compact AC unit is plugged into the existing water circuit, making installation in new, larger buses or retrofitting into an existing fleet quick and easy. The environmentallyfriendly system is a remarkable 50 kg lighter than conventional arrangements, using significantly less refrigerant, and minimised electrical power consumption. The compact design requires just one heat exchanger and fan for both heating and cooling, with the condenser, compressor and evaporator housed in a self-contained below-floor cabinet. With fewer parts used in its simplified refrigeration circuit, the unit requires very little maintenance, leading to lower service costs. CitiRT Thermo King s new high capacity, light-weight CitiRT system is designed exclusively for the city bus market. Using Thermo King's new ClimaAire control system, the CitiRT is capable of operating in ambient temperatures up to a sizzling 550C a feature that is unmatched by many competitive units. Weighing in at just 222 kg including compressor, the compact one-piece roof-mounted structure is substantially lighter than competitive units. Despite its compact size and low weight, the unit operates at an impressively high capacity up to 34.2 kw (with R407C refrigerant) at an outside ambient of 35 C. ShuttleAire Thermo King is adding two innovative new products to the ShuttleAire range for buses. The new ShuttleAire SR-50 represents a new direction for small and mid-sized buses (24-30 passengers). The easy-to-install one-piece roof-mounted system is very light weight (only 95 kg including compressor), and features low power consumption coupled with a high heating and cooling capacity. With driver comfort in mind, Thermo King is introducing the SR-15 a lightweight driver cab air conditioning unit ideal not only for buses, but also for trucks and offroad vehicles. The one-piece roof top design offers simple installation, and allows for extra space within the cab. Like the SR- 50, the SR-15 is controlled by Thermo King's new ClimaAire system, and uses chlorine-free environmentally-friendly HFC R134a refrigerant.

7 7 DON T MISS THE BUS New Convector For efficient and effective bus heating, Thermo King is also launching a new design of convector, available in four models (TKV500/600/700/800). The lightest unit in the industry, weighing only 2.48 kg per meter for the TKV 800, it provides impressively high heating capacity up to 630 W/m. The attractive, slim-line design is vandalism proof, and at only 75 mm provides maximum passenger floor space, while the large frontal surface generates an 8.1% radiant heating "bonus". For added control Thermo King is introducing two new controllers. IntelligAire II The ideal system for sophisticated users, monitoring and regulating internal bus and coach air temperature, ventilation, air circulation and humidity. The system's modular configuration offers flexibility, while the easily-downloaded PC interface allows for simple programming changes. The new system features improved diagnostic capabilities, including more effective trouble-shooting; multiple hour meters for expanded maintenance protocol; and expanded service test capabilities for improved pre-trips. ClimaAire A simplified version of IntelligAire, offering many of the same features, including heating, cooling, reheating and ventilation-only options. Designed for applications that require only basic temperature control, the system is ideal for city or school buses that require frequent stops and door openings.

8 8 Thermo King introduces THERMOGARD from THERMO KING TOTAL KARE, a comprehensive new service and maintenance package which will be available to Thermo King customers across Europe. Tailored to each individual operator's needs, the wide range of options offered by THERMOGARD will assist operators in maximising their refrigeration unit uptime, and maintain their equipment to the industry's highest standards. Optionally, Thermogard programmes will include the installation of TRAC-KING, a satellite based data communication and unit location device which will provide unit operation, location and load status information on a real time basis. How it works An operator will take a service and maintenance contract with TOTAL KARE, out of a wide range of programmes available under the Thermogard umbrella. The specific programme selected will be chosen to best suit the individual operator's needs. Depending on the programme selected, the entire cost of repair and maintenance, or as much of the cost as is chosen by the customer, may be fixed into a rate per WHAT S NEW Thermo King Taking Kare of its Customers running hour, thereby ensuring consistent programme pricing. The price will include all parts and services, or as much as is specified by the customer, regardless of the location they are supplied from. All service and repair requirements will be arranged through TOTAL KARE. The customer will receive regular service management reports, as well as reminders when scheduled services are due. Any emergency repairs anywhere in Europe can be easily arranged by a single telephone call to the Total Kare multilingual call centre. All services will be provided by the fully qualified and experienced technicians throughout Thermo King's European dealer network, available 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Benefits to the customer Reduced life cycle costs by ensuring regular maintenance checks, refrigeration equipment will be maintained for optimum performance and reliability. Improved vehicle utilisation maintenance can be scheduled at times which suit operational needs most conveniently.
