6 Carbon Explained Many bicycle manufacturers throw around terms such as high modulus without understanding what it actually means. If a bicycle frame was actually super high modulus in terms of its GPa (Giga Pascal s) rating it would ride as stiff as a board and wouldn t be comfortable or practical for anything. This is often just a phrase used as marketing jargon by carbon suppliers and bicycle manufacturers alike. Paint process British weather conditions and road surfaces provide a harsh challenge for any bike. One of Forme s strongest selling points is our exceptional paint quality. To ensure your bike always looks fresh and new every frame is coated with a super durable lacquer. Our frames are electro-statically charged and then colour is applied in the form of a fine powder. This process ensures scratch resistance and impact strength offering additional toughness and improved cosmetics. The most important aspect of a carbon frame is how the laminate is laid and the percentage ratio of carbon to cohesive resins. The direction the fibres are laid in the different areas of the frame, in particular the bottom bracket shell, head tube and chain stays should ensure the carbon has strong torsion to reduce flex whilst remaining soft in bending so the frame has the relevant amount of forgiveness during endurance rides on the road and over roots and rocks in the woods. When purchasing a bicycle an understanding of the carbon and a belief in its quality is exceptionally important as the vast majority of any carbon failures in the bicycle industry are as a result of the cohesive resins failing not the carbon itself. Forme bikes work with one of the worlds leading carbon bicycle manufacturers using Torayca 700 and 800 carbon fibre. Our frames are designed to offer the optimal balance of carbon to resin to create the most adequate bicycle available for British terrain with every bike in the range scoring exceptionally well on the international stiffness to weight index. 7 Our Partners Forme Bikes are working in conjunction with 4za for our 2013 product. 4za is a strong Belgian brand established in 2001, initially launching with a small line of forks developed for one of the largest Bicycle brands in the world. The access 4za have to the best testing facilities in the world along with their understanding of product from a technical and cyclists point of view secured our decision to work alongside them for the 2013 season. The 4za product range has expanded through feedback from one of the worlds largest bicycle brands using test results from professional riders who endure the tough Belgian conditions on pavé and the cyclo cross scene. As with Forme bikes 4za clearly believe there is no better platform for testing than using professional riders. Based in one of the best cycling cultures in the world 4za not only design product in house using their very own wind tunnel machine for aerodynamic development but they are also surrounded by some of the greatest legends in cycling who regularly help to offer advice in developing and amending 4za product. The 4za designers and technicians care about the technical detail and they have a strong feel for the style and aesthetics allowing Forme bikes to customize all of our finish kit to match the bicycles within our range. Although the frame is the crucial part to any performance bicycle its componentry can either ignite it or deflate it. Both the Dark and White Peak areas of the Peak District offer huge diversity and we continue to take our inspiration from some of the best riding scenery in the world. Our passion for riding in the Peak District has been displayed on each of our models hence the name selections such as Longcliffe, one of our infamous interval climbs, or Alport taken from Alport heights, the first hill from the south of the Peak District over 1000ft. In a heavily saturated market one key to our success is an understanding of the British Market and we show examples of this on every single model in the range. 13 Every single tube shape matters The angle at which the carbon fibres are orientated, positioning of polymers, quality of laminate and grade of filament (e.g. 3k,12k etc) all affect the performance and weight of any frame. The number of different shape combinations and styles are infinite therefore we have taken care to optimize all contributing factors when designing the Flash to meet the demands of its rider. Force loads are examined and strength sections are reinforced in the relevant areas in proportion to each of our frame sizes. Furthermore our Flash frames use highest performance T-800 raw carbon fibre material as featured on many ProTour level framesets. Cable management Designed to hide away from the frequent wet weather experienced during a huge amount of our product testing our internal cable management system offers improved assembly and maintenance and protects your cables. BB86 This is one of the widest bottom brackets available allowing us to make the bike lighter, stiffer and more responsive. Tapered steerer Featuring an 1-1/8 to 1.5 tapered carbon steerer. This allows for more precise steering when descending as well as improved power transfer when jumping out of corners and launching powerful attacks. Narrow seat stays Using narrow seat stays allows us to offer greater vertical defection promoting comfort. To ensure the stays are as laterally stiff as possible without sacrificing comfort we use a special reinforcing laminate. Integrated drop out The Flash uses a carbon fibre dropout with a replaceable alloy hanger. Carbon chain stays with integrated carbon dropout shave additional grams from the complete bike. Carbon Integrated handlebars Our 4za Cirrus Pro handlebars are World Champion tested and approved and feature a Carbon/Kevlar monocoque construction for top strength to weight ratio as well as a super aerodynamic profile. 13

Technology: Tapered head tube/steerer Our Thorpe frames feature an 1-1/8 to 1-1/2 tapered head tube and steerer. This allows for more precise steering when descending as well as improved power transfer when jumping out of corners and launching powerful attacks. BB30 The BB30 oversized bottom bracket design used on the Thorpe ensures minimal flex at the connection point between the larger-sized chain stay, seat tube and down tube connection which allows a more direct conversion of power transfer. Narrow Seat Stays With the reinforcement of additional cohesive resins and chunky square chain stays we have created a frame with narrower box shaped seat stays which allows the Thorpe to save weight without sacrificing power transfer. 30 Longcliffe The Longcliffe series offers race performance and the perfect basis for training, fitness and commuting with comfort at the forefront of our minds. With slightly shorter top tubes and longer head tubes the Longcliffe range is ideal for any endurance ride. Aluminium is considered the most versatile of materials for a cyclist however this is only applicable if the appropriate geometry and material is applied, not to mention the best available equipment ensemble. We take care not to neglect the most important fundamentals of a bike. The frame and wheelset should always be the priority for any rider purchasing a complete bicycle package. This is why on our entire Forme Road range we use AL7005 grade of tubing to our own custom geometry all handcrafted by one of the best and well known frame manufacturers in the world. This is partnered by the best available wheelsets for the price. Even on our 899 priced Longcliffe 2.0 bike we feature a custom Mavic Aksium wheelset with further upgrades found on the Longcliffe 1.0! 42 TR1 One of the fastest growing sports in the UK is Track Cycling following the huge success of our Olympic Academy and the solid infrastructure put in place by British Cycling to support our developing Academy riders too. The Forme TR1 is perfect for beginners and Track Cycling Schools. A bladed track special carbon fork is designed for both your aerodynamic and practical needs. The fork needs to be as versatile as possible for riders competing over several different disciplines to change wheels quickly and efficiently. Our steel reinforced dropouts offer additional strength and flexibility for any race meet or training session. 44 Calver Cyclo Cross is considered to be one of the toughest genres of the sport. When faced with steep muddy inclines, sharp corners or step runs the Calver CX series is designed to meet your demands. In addition to frame performance there are a number of additional details that cannot be neglected by any serious Cyclo Cross rider. We have implemented a number of unique designs to guarantee optimum mud clearance and the smoothest braking and shifting performance possible. Following a year of product testing and feedback from 2 Great Britain team riders we have injected every ounce of experience towards, what we believe to be, the most efficient and practical Cyclo Cross Race Bikes on the market. The Campy Tech Lab engineering staff conducted in-depth studies on the behaviour of the chain on the chainrings during shifting in the most critical situations, leading to some very important results. The inner machining of the chainrings was created to facilitate the up shift and downshift of the chain, so that the movements are fast and precise in all conditions. In addition the Cyclo Cross specific bottom bracket features a double lip seal to prevent damage through mud and sand. Tapered Steerer Provides responsive, agile handling and reduces brake judder often experienced on cyclo cross bikes. Power Transfer Square Downtube Gives maximum stiffness to the rear triangle for optimum power transfer as well as elimination of the bridge between the chainstays to enhance mud clearance. Flat top tube The top tube is flattened at an angle for improved shouldering from the non-drive side of the bike.
