6 6 IDO History OVER 140 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE Arabia porcelain factory was founded in 1874 and it soon expanded its range to include WCs and washbasins. For many decades, the factory was the only Nordic manufacturer of sanitary porcelain.

7 IDO History 7 As demand for sanitary porcelain grew, the premises at Arabianranta soon became too confined, and a new production facility was established in Tammisaari. The extensively automated factory started its operations under the name of Oy Wärtsilä Ab, but changed to Tammisaaren Posliini in The current name IDO Kylpyhuone Oy was taken into use in February The site remains in operation as one of the most modern sanitary porcelain factories in Europe, and the only one of its kind in Finland. IDO Kylpyhuone Oy s other product groups also have a long and illustrious history. IDO Showerama showers, for example, conquered Sweden more than 40 years ago. Even back then, success was built on the products unique characteristics and practical solutions for an easier life. Showerama was the first shower with glass walls instead of plastic for easier cleaning. Our history has set the bar high, which is why we invest continuously in production technology, product development and quality control. We want the past 140 years to be a prelude to a fantastic future.

8 8 IDO Designers IDO DESIGNERS IDO bathrooms are well-known for their quality and well-developed design solutions. Their design has been carefully considered right down to the last detail. Our reputation is not accidental as our products are created by a team of talented and professional designers with diverse national backgrounds. Norwegian designer Einar Hareide started his career in design in the Swedish car manufacturer`s Saab factory in Hareide has established his own company, Hareide Design. Its offices are located in Moss, Norway, and in Gothenburg, Sweden. IDO Showerama 8-5 IDO Seven D (ceramics and furniture), IDO Mosaik, IDO Shape and IDO Wave Kaarle Holmberg is an internationally renowned Finnish designer. In addition to product design, Holmberg has taught furniture and interior decoration design, and has shared his abundant knowledge with many students. Most of all he emphasizes the importance of quality in design as well as production.

9 IDO Designers 9 IDO Showerama 8-5 shower cubicle Hareide Design designs a variety of products ranging from furniture to cars. The company has won many design awards and its products can be seen, for example, among the permanent exhibition of the New York Museum of Modern Arts. The IDO Showerama 8-5 shower cubicle has been designed by Dan Sevaldson, a designer working in Hareide Design Gothenburg office. The goal was to design a shower cabinet which resembles an item of furniture and goes with any style of interior decoration. Swedish designer Fredrik Wallner manages the Stockholm design company CODE. Wallner has worked as an interior architect for IKEA and in highly-reputed Scandinavian design and architectural offices. Bathroom furniture IDO Trend and IDO Select German designer Adolf Babel believes that, first and foremost, products must express artistic values and facilitate their users` daily life. In his designing work, he considers most important the follo wing of technical requirements, the quality of being easy to use and the impression of innovation. IDO Seven D bath

11 IDO Small 11 Everything you need can be fitted into the smallest of bathrooms if you plan carefully and use the right products. Think about how the bathroom will be used and by whom. Will the shower be used at the same time as the WC? Or the washbasin? If you can take it in turns with your morning routine, you can make even a small space into an attractive and practical bathroom. The IDO Seven D 18 WC saves crucial centimetres. Due to the cleverly designed cistern, the WC is only 610 mm deep. A folding shower screen is extra practical in a small bathroom. Along the bottom edge sits a sealing strip that presses against the floor when you open the shower. The screens are available with either straight or curved glass and can be fixed to the wall on the left or right. Find out more on page 78. Create more storage in your bathroom with a mirror cabinet and base cabinet, for example. Most of our furniture ranges also have high cabinets that are ideal for tight spaces. The smallest cabinet is 22 cm wide and only 14 cm deep. And yet at a lofty 183 cm high, it offers a surprising amount of storage. 12 12 IDO Medium M as in magnificent! This medium-sized bathroom looks larger than it is since the asymmetrical bathtub and folding shower enclosure provide an airier feel. Wall-mounted furniture also increases the sense of space and at the same time makes for easier cleaning.

Tall cabinets take up little floorspace but offer huge amounts of storage. With the absence of floor profiles, the doors of the shower enclosure can easily be swung to the side when the shower is not in use. The strip at the bottom helps stop water collecting outside.

Move your hand slowly for a long flush and quickly for a short flush. A sturdy foot and wheels to make moving the shower cubicle easier are located below the shower tray. This enables the shower cubicle to be moved, for example, during cleaning. Sometimes the IDO Smart solutions are on the surface, but they can also be out of sight. The smoother glaze on WCs in IDO Seven D range reaches right under the rim. The built-in Fresh WC function automatically releases just the right amount of toilet freshener after each flush. It is therefore worth your time and effort and seeking professional help when it comes to planning and building a new bathroom. The end result is elegant, practical and safe.

21 IDO Taking good care of your bathroom 21 BEGIN WITH THE DESIGN Start planning your bathroom by drawing out the room on paper. Mark the locations of doors, windows, pipes and plumbing. Shower and WC are usually placed by the plumbing, but the cabinets can be positioned wherever works best. All our furniture carcases and fronts are made of water-resistant material and have various water-repellent finishes that make it easier to keep the furniture clean. All our wooden bathroom furniture is protected with a hard-wearing acid-cured lacquer. Although our furniture is highly moisture-resistant, it should not be exposed to water for long periods of time. Cabinets should therefore be placed a sufficient distance away from showers and bathtubs. Even small bathrooms can be functional The smaller your bathroom, the more important the design. Even a small space can become a fully functional bathroom with the right bathroom furniture just look at the washbasin on page 103 that has space for a small washing machine underneath. If you dream of a bathtub, a bath screen can be a great way to save space. Then you don t need a separate shower cubicle or enclosure and your dreams can come true even in a small bathroom. The shower should be at least 70 cm wide and the WC needs a footprint at least 80 cm wide. If you have a small bathroom, you can opt for a folding screen. When not using the shower, simply fold the screen out of the way of the WC. It is much easier to refurbish the bathroom if you don t need to move the drainage. IDO has WCs for both wall and floor drainage. A wall-hung WC is perfect for refurbishments. Plumbing is concealed and you gain a practical shelf into the bargain.

A good bathroom has two kinds of lighting. As base lighting we always recommend ceiling lights. Correctly located task lighting is, however, important when you need to see better, for example at the mirror or when sorting laundry. Ask for professional help Always get help from a professional when renovating your bathroom, so that you have the right waterproofing and floor incline towards the drain. Take good care of it and in return it will serve you well for years. Furniture All our cabinet frames and fronts are moisture-resistant, but should not be exposed to water for long periods. Cabinets and drawers should therefore be placed a sufficient distance from the bathtub and shower. Wipe up water splashes with a dry cloth after use. Shower Wipe down shower screens after showering for easier maintenance. Clean the shower with mild detergent. If the shower tray is scratched or discoloured, you can treat it with polish and wax it. Deeper scratches can be sanded away. Our shower cubicles have practical wheels that mean the cubicle can easily be moved when you need to clean underneath. Our shower trays have a detachable front panel to make cleaning even easier. WCs and washbasins When creating our porcelain products, we take extra care to make sure they are easy to clean. Our porcelain washbasins and WCs are simple to keep clean with mild detergent. All WCs and washbasins in IDO Seven D range feature a smoother glaze, which decreases dirt accumulation and makes cleaning easier. Bathtubs Bathtubs should be cleaned with mild detergent and a soft cloth to avoid scratching the surface. Scratches in sanitary acrylic can be sanded and polished away. What do I do if something breaks? Keep your receipt. Porcelain products made in Finland come with a 10-year warranty and fitted flush mechanisms have a 5-year warranty. Remember to place cabinets correctly While colours and materials are a matter of taste, cabinet placement is all about functionality. Our cabinet cases and front parts are made of humidity-resistant material featuring various humidity-resistant coatings, making the cabinets easy to keep clean. All wooden furniture is protected with durable acid-curing lacquer. Although our furniture is highly humidityresistant, it should not be exposed to extremely humid conditions for long periods of time. Therefore, it is always recommendable to install the furniture at an appropriate distance from the shower or bathtub. If any surfaces of the furniture get wet, they should be dried up with a cloth. IDO cabinets are delivered assembled Our cabinets are usually delivered preassembled, making their installation quick and easy. IDO Select Small, meant for smaller bathrooms, is only 320 mm deep. Medium comes in 370 mm depth. If there is more space, it pays to choose IDO Select Large with 490 mm in depth. 94 94 IDO Washbasins IDO WASHBASINS During their life cycle washbasins put up with a lot of wear and tear. They serve as the cleaning place for dirty hands and little laundry, and some of the detergents can be quite harsh on the surfaces. Washbasins have to endure rough handling. The washbasin mounting should also be durable. The structure of your bathroom wall determines whether screws are enough or if brackets are necessary. IDO washbasins are glazed porcelain. The material is easy to keep clean and bright year in and year out. Porcelain is a Made in Finland natural material, which sometimes results in slight variations in the dimensions of the washbasins (2%). Please be mindful of this when measuring the location for your new washbasin. The location of the washbasin depends on the location of the water and sewage piping. Although the piping can be rerouted, the easiest way is usually to install the washbasin to fit the location of the piping. The recommended installation height for washbasins is mm. Generally, basins are installed so that the top is approx. 850 mm above floor level. IDO washbasins are divided into three categories: traditional washbasins, vanity tops as well as inset and lay-on washbasins. Our selection has the right washbasin for any space and location.
