3 Safety Precautions Read the installation manual before installing or making any adjustments to the luxlift. The luxlift should only be used for the maintenance of luminaires. All other usage of the luxlift is prohibited. The luxlift should only be installed by a qualified electrician. The luxlift may only be installed in clean, dry rooms (degree of protection: IP20). Safety measures are denoted by the symbols described below. WARNING! Caution This symbol indicates that serious injury or death may result if the part or procedure is not handled properly. Indicates an instruction that must be strictly followed to avoid injury or physical damage. Follow these instructions carefully! ENSURE THAT THE SUSPENSION BELT IS NOT FOLDED OR TWISTED BEFORE RAISING THE LUMINAIRE, OTHERWISE THERE IS A RISK THAT THE SUSPENSION BELT MAY BREAK AND THE LUXLIFT AND LUMINAIRE MAY FALL. STOP RAISING THE LUMINAIRE IF THE SUSPENSION BELT BECOMES TWISTED. LOWER IT FIRST, SET THE SUSPENSION BELT STRAIGHT, AND THEN RAISE IT AGAIN. The suspension belt is twisted due to rotation of the lift coupler. Rotate the lift coupler to set the suspension belt straight. Do not fold or twist the suspension belt. The suspension belt must not be shortened or lengthened and luxlift itself must not be modified in any way; there is a risk that the luminaire may fall. Do not remove, loosen or damage any of the suspension belts; they will not rewind properly and the luxlift and luminaire may fall. 2

4 Safety Precautions, continued Follow these instructions carefully! Do not allow the suspension belt to touch the floor. To avoid injury exercise caution when handling the suspension belt with bare hands. Be sure to install, adjust and operate the luxlift in accordance with these instructions. luxlift may fall or pose an electric shock or fire hazard if it is not properly installed. If the luminaire is rigidly attached to the lift coupler- i.e. if the adaptor (YKG31010K) is not fitted - the centre of gravity of the luminaire must not be more than 50cm from the lift coupler. Lift coupler Before operating the luxlift, switch off the lighting circuits. Leaving the luminaire power Centre of gravity supply on could cause electric shock or damaged contacts. Less than 50cm The luxlift must not be installed where it may be exposed to vibration, dust, moisture, high winds, corrosive gases, etc.; otherwise the luxlift may fall. If the lift coupler is in the lower position, the suspension belt must not be subjected to any sudden loads (for example, by raising the luminaire and allowing it to fall again). This may break the belt and cause the luminaire to fall. Do not use luminaire circuits in which voltage pulses of more than 5kV occur. This may pose an electric shock or fire hazard. Observe the following guidelines to prevent the luxlift from being affected by the heat generated from the luminaire: 1) Allowed temperature (max.) for the lift coupler: 70ºC. 2) Allowed temperature (max.) for the electrical wires from the lift coupler: 105ºC. 3

5 Caution! If a luminaire with asymmetric weight distribution is used, counterweights may have to be used so that the lift coupler can always travel into the main unit of the luxlift horizontally. Otherwise the luxlift may malfunction, the suspension belt may break, and the luminaire may fall. Install the luxlift horizontally; otherwise it may malfunction. (Maximum deviation of ±2.5 from the horizontal level.) If the lift coupler has come out of its mounting, do not push the belt upward as there is a high risk of accident. The operating switch should be installed close or adjacent to the lighting circuit switches. The operating switch should be installed at an appropriate height that is convenient to use. Self-resetting switch The switch must automatically go to the OFF setting when released. The switch must operate in a logical fashion. In other words, avoid wiring the switch so that it has to be pressed down in order to raise the luminaire. The switch MUST NOT go straight from raise to lower or vice versa. For each switch pole there must be a clearance of more than 3mm between the contacts. The switch must be protected against unauthorised use (e.g. key switch, locked cabinet). The switch for the luminaire should be located near the operating switch. It must be ensured by appropriate means that the lighting circuits are switched off while the luxlift is being operated. The luxlift must be installed at a height of at least 2.7m. The luxlift and the luminaire must be installed in accordance with these instructions and current EU standards. Any additional equipment such as switches or remote control units must also comply with these standards. If the luxlift has been running for its maximum operating time of 12 minutes, it should be allowed to cool down for at least 2 hours before being used again. Make sure that no one is standing underneath the luxlift while it is operating. Extra care must be taken when operators are working close to the luxlift during maintenance. Operators must make sure that persons do not hold on to the luminaire as it is being raised. The luxlift must only be operated at the specified supply voltage (±6%) and specified frequency; otherwise there is a risk of fire. The noise level during operation is less than 73dB(A). Do not twist or swing the luminaire back and forth while it is being raised or lowered. Do not paint or modify the luxlift in any way. 4
