WARNING: Fixtures must be grounded in accordance with local codes or the National Electrical Code. Failure to do so may result in serious personal injury. CAUTION: All wiring should be done by a qualified electrician. DO NOT operate luminiare with missing or damaged lens. KEEP THIS SHEET FOR FUTURE REFERENCE. Attention: If your fixture is equipped with a multi-tap ballast and if no voltage was specified on the purchase order, the ballast has been wired for operation on a 120 or 277 volt circuit (347V in Canada). If other than 120 or 277 volts is required, i.e.; 208V, 240V, see Ballast Wiring Information on page 4. WARNING Never energize fixtures with plastic bag - installed for protection during construction or painting. This will cause permanent damage from overheating. Tool Required: Flat Blade Screwdriver PREPARING FOR INSTALLATION: Step 1 - Verify fixture locations: To assure a correct installation, the specifier should key the fixture locations on the garage plan with the icon for a PGL51/61, PGL52/62, PGL53/63, PGL54/64, PGL55/65, PGL56/66, PGL57/67, or PGL58/68. 2 INSTRUCTIONS PERTAINING TO A RISK OF FIRE, OR INJURY TO PERSONS IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS! WARNING: Fixtures must be grounded in accordance with local codes or the National Electrical Code.! Failure to do so may result in serious personal injury. MAINTENANCE: Parking garages are open structures, fixtures will eventually become dirty with air and exhaust pollutants. A regularly scheduled maintenance program should be followed. The PGL5/6 is rated to IP66, allowing power washing; a fast and effective way to keep the fixtures at peak efficiency. CAUTION: All wiring should be done by a qualified electrician. Lighted lamp is HOT! DO NOT operate luminaire with missing or damaged lens. KEEP THIS SHEET FOR FUTURE REFERENCE. J-Box Locking Tab Attach Kim Speed Mount to J-Box Preparing For Installation cont'd. Bind Head Screws must be used in the installation of the Kim Speed Mount. Step 2 - Install the Kim speed mount to the J-box. The Kim Speed Mount must be installed in accordance with the label. Be certain Kim speed mount is installed with the driving direction & parking stalls in the correct orientation. DO NOT put washers under screw heads. Step 3 - Remove the tape that holds the suspension strap to the fixture. FIXTURE CONNECTION TO SPEED MOUNT & FINAL INSTALLATION:! Make certain electrical supply is OFF before starting installation. Suspension Strap Wire Retainer Suspension Strap Fixture Wires Tuck All Leads And Connections Into J-Box 1. To hang fixture, slide the suspension strap onto the wire retainer on the speed mount plate. Allow fixture to hang freely. 2. Make electrical connections observing polarity; i.e., green-toground, white-to-common, and black-to-voltage. 3. Swing fixture away from j-box center and up against ceiling and speed mount plate while feeding wires into j-box. It is important to keep tension on the suspension strap as the fixture is raised. 3 FIXTURE CONNECTION TO SPEED MOUNT & FINAL INSTALLATION cont'd. 4. Make certain wires enter j-box as fixture is raised. The suspension strap will guide slots in the top of the fixture to hooks on the speed mount plate. Slide the fixture towards the center allowing the hooks to accept the weight of the fixture. Fixture locks in place when fully engaged on hooks. 5. Unlatch lens by pulling out on top portion of each latch. Unhook latch from lens & swing down and allow to hang free. WARNING! This H.I.D. / Fluorescent fixture utilizes a lamp that may contain mercury. For information on disposal of lamp, go to website: 6. Install lamp of type and wattage as shown on fixture label. Close lens. LAMP REPLACEMENT & BALLAST ACCESS:! Make certain the electrical supply is OFF before accessing the ballast. 1. Remove lens by pulling out on top portion of each latch. Unhook latch from lens & swing lens down and allow to hang free. 2. Remove & replace lamp of type and wattage as shown on fixture label. 4 LAMP REPLACEMENT & BALLAST ACCESS cont'd. Terminal Block Screws 3. Remove the reflector assembly by loosening the two screws in the outer flange of the reflector (do not remove). 4. Ballast Wiring Information: To change input voltage in a multi-tap ballast, electricity must be OFF. Connect black lead from terminal block to desired voltage lead on ballast, i.e.; 208V or 240V. REMOVAL FROM J-BOX! Make certain electrical supply is OFF before starting removal. 1. Loosen lock screw inside fixture (do not remove). With both hands on fixture slide off hooks. 2. Let fixture hang by suspension strap. Fish wire connections out of J-Box and disconnect. Suspension Strap 3. Holding fixture lift suspension strap off speed mount wire retainer. 5 OPTIONAL BALANCED PENDANT J-BOX INSTALLATION: Only Required If A Free Swinging Pendant Is Used. Uses Kim PB2 Balanced J-Box. Tools Required: Flat Blade Screwdriver Silicone Sealant 5 /64" Allen Wrench L" N.P.T. Conduit (By Others) Apply silicone sealant to threads.! Make certain the electrical supply is OFF before starting fixture installation. KIM PB2 Balanced Pendant J-Box 1. HID Core & Coil Ballast PGL5: Attach free swinging pendant in conduit location "A". HID Electronic Ballasts / PGL6: Phillips Induction Lamp - Attach free swinging pendant in conduit location "B" DRIVING DIRECTIONS Location "A" 2. Attach speed mount to appropriate mounting holes in Balance Pendant J-Box, with (2) bind head screws (provided). Location "B" 3. HID Core & Coil Ballast IMPORTANT! Orient speed mount as shown at right. Locking Tab HID Electronic Ballasts / Phillips Induction Lamp - IMPORTANT! Orient hooks on speed mount location "A". Secure with bind head screws provided. DRIVING DIRECTIONS KIM Speed Mount Set Screw 4. Attach fixture per instructions on page 2 & 3. Tighten set screw to lock fixture position. NOTE: Balance of fixture depends on size and weight of the ballast core and electrical components. Electrical component weights may vary between different manufacturers. Install one fixture per attached instructions, check to see if level and adjust hole location as necessary before installing remaining fixtures. Page 5 Kim Lighting E. Gale Ave. P.O. 6 Reflector and Lens Cleaning: A regularly scheduled maintenance program should be followed to retain optimum light output and reduce heat retention. Dusting with a dry, soft cloth is normally sufficient for the reflectors. Any accumulation of dust or dirt should be removed regularly from both sides of the housing and lens using ammonia water. DO NOT use alkaline or acid cleaners. Power Washing: Because parking garages are open structures, fixtures eventually become dirty with air and exhaust pollutants. With large numbers of fixtures in most garages, it is simply not practical or cost effective to hand clean the luminaires. To solve this dilemma, the PGL is sealed against upward spray to allow power washing, a fast and effective way to keep the fixtures at peak efficiency through regular maintenance. Replacement Parts List Description Part# Polycarbonate Lens Acrylic Lens KIM LIGHTING LIMITED WARRANTY When installed in accordance with Kim Installation Instructions and accepted trade practices, the following shall apply: General Product Limited Warranty Coverage All materials and component parts used in the manufacture of Kim Products, are warranted to be free from defects of material and/or workmanship for a period of 1 year from date of sale, with the following exceptions: Auxiliary Equipment All auxiliary equipment (such as lamps, ballasts, and transformers) provided by and/or included in Kim Products shall carry the component manufacturer's warranty. Copper and Bronze Landscape Components Copper and Bronze Landscape fixture components shall be warranted against defects of material and/or workmanship, and failure due to corrosion, for a period of 25 years from date of sale. Composite In-Grade Components Composite In-Grade fixture components installed below grade, shall be warranted against defects of material and/or workmanship, and failure due to corrosion, for a period of 7 years from date of sale. Aluminum Landscape Components Aluminum Landscape fixture components not in direct contact with soil, shall be warranted against defects of material and/or workmanship for a period of 3 years from date of sale. Aluminum fixture components in direct contact with soil shall be warranted from defects of material and failure from corrosion for a period of 1 year from date of sale. Limit of Liability and General Conditions Only products which are installed. used and maintained in accordance with applicable Kim instructions, specifications and accepted trade practices, are covered by the Kim Warranty. During the warranty period, with proof of purchase, Kim will repair or replace with the same or similar product, at Kim's option, without charge. Labor costs are the owner's responsibility and are excluded from this warranty. This warranty is void if the product is modified, tampered with, misapplied, poorly installed, improperly maintained, or subjected to abnormal conditions. Repair or replacement as provided under this warranty is the exclusive remedy of the purchaser. This warranty is in lieu of all other warranties, expressed or implied, including any implied warranty of fitness for a particular application.
