A welcoming home, where we can share firm values The enterprise is the man who does. Doing business means having an ensemble of technical, economical, human and social values, with which you can give concreteness to creative abilities. AITI supports entrepreneurs, companies and employees in the creation of a useful wealth, neither ephemeral, nor an end unto itself, the result of a fair committment and worth of attention. With discreteness and competence we are at hand to welcome you and to assist you in your experiences and activities, through our greatest involvement. Welcome to AITI, the Association for companies operating in the Ticino canton with a potential of over jobs and turnovers higher than 13 billion Swiss francs. Our industrial system is made of mainly small and medium size companies with a strong vocation to exportation; in fact over three quarters of the production is headed abroad. Thanks to this dynamic we acquired a certain experience in being able to be welcomed in other countries, even far away. Experience that we gladly put at hand of companies operating in Ticino or that wish to settle here. Stefano Modenini Director AITI 3

Industry, Territory and Society The territory competitiveness growth goes through slender state regulations, presence of qualified staff and flexibility in the job market, modern communication media, capital availability and energy at competitive prices, appropriate tax policies, access to innovation and technology transfer and strict respect of the environment and of people. The action of those who do business is based on the ability of generating profits granting maximum responsibility at the same time, both in the economical and social areas. That balance is supported by companies that have an appeal at international level, that are able to listen to local needs and that are in continuous dialogue with Government, Parliament, political Parties, workers Organizations and everyone who enlivens society. The Ticino industrial tissue, together with the important and vital work of masteries offers spaces to young people in the fields of research, technic, finance, marketing and logistics, making the system evolved in terms of professional offers typologies. This vision of the sector is the reference point from which the Association has started to reconfirm two of its important historical postulates: the structuring of a firm values code and the opportunity to be provided for an industrial policy that is aimed to the wardship of sector development. 4

AITI s industrial policy AITI s industrial Policy aims to the quantitative and qualitative growth of current industrial networks and to the development of new enterprises, thanks to the preservation and improvement of territory competitiveness. These preambles are based on a vision that mainly foresees: institutional relations; slender state regulations; availability and fluency of modern communication media and rapid and inexpensive transportation means; innovation access and technology transfer promotion; employees professional competences development; progressive reduction of business labor cost, together with the preservation of wages purchasing power; organizational flexibility increase; energy resources available at competitive prices; facilitations in terms of capital access and tax policies favourable to investments and entrepreneurship; active promotion of labor peace; active fight of commercial obstacles and markets integration promotion; support to the internationalization of enterprises and markets access; respect for the environment. 5

AITI s values AITI s expressed values tend to a society in which free initiative stands in the center putting themselves, with a sense of moral responsibility and integrity, in the service of the spirit of open minded people and of a free market. The aim is to contribute to the development process of the industrial economy and to the civil growth of the Country with which the conversation is continuous. The elements of the entire duties system which are considered substantial are: preserve and increase the reputation of entrepreneurs as a independent social force, responsible and ethically fair; contribute concretely to the improvement of the Country system through industrial entrepreneurs behaviors. From the top of the Association to the single associate we commit to act with transparency respecting behavioral models inspired to independence, integrity, ethic, developing, consequently, coherent actions with illustrated intents. We are aware that every behavior not in line with our expressed values damages the image of the entire category, and of every AITI interlocutor. The objective of coherence is indeed a distinctive element for us, encoded and shared amongst associates through the Association s Code of Ethics, present since Our stock of knowledge in constant movement allows us to regularly update our modus operandi adapting it to affiliated enterprises stimuli. In its first 50 years AITI has always been able to position in the middle: between present needs and those of the future. Identity AITI is recognized as representative for the industrial sector of Italian Switzerland. Its own image positioning, both towards the outside and the inside of the Association, puts it as privileged interlocutor with the territory social and extraeconomical tissue, other than technical partners for Institutions, local, national and foreign companies and the credit system. Rappresentative AITI does not take political sides positioning in operational and ideleogical independence, aligned with the Swiss Entrepreneurs Union and economiesuisse, the the Swiss Business Federation, to which it is associated. It executes a promotional role for companies towards Institutions, public administrations, economical, political, social and trade organizations. It promotes a participated and democratic management of its internal life, involving associates. Services The services offered are wide and well-thought. They lever on a management culture that is characterized by efficiency and professionalism and by value added in terms of flexibility, personalization and interdisciplinarity. 6

A clear industrial and entrepreneurial profile AITI is an independent economical association, born in 1962, with firm relationships, at national level, with the main economical organizations of the Country, particularly the Swiss Entrepreneurs Union and economiesuisse, the Swiss Business Federation. AITI s action is oriented to determine a clear industrial and entrepreneurial profile, expression of a territory where industry is the main creator of cantonal wealth (about 21% of GDP). The formula that puts enterprises together with our Association comes from the union of three ingredients: a solid sector identity openly lived in the territory; the ability to represent associates interests and a consolidated range of services offered. The services profile is characterized by a pragmatic response to companies practices needs. AITI is able to offer informative services on laws, regulations and various mesures (current and/or in study), release of working permits for foreigners, labor rights and on every other subject on which an industrial interest can be applied or registered. With the establishment of AitiServizi SA in 2004, the Asso- ciation has significantly increased its penetration within the sector, offering associates a number of new opportunities: insurance brokerage for people branches and general branches, the selection and training of staff and various other faciliations for the acquisition of goods and services. AitiServizi SA leans on platforms such as and that put themselves up for being reference points to companies of Italian Switzerland. A wide offer, an important number of tools and valid promotional proposals will be little by little integrated on request and reccommendation by AITI s associated companies. 7

Organization Partners meeting President, elected on rotation between representatives of associated companies; re-elected every 3 years (maximum of 2 mandates) Board of Directors Formed by 4 members other than the President Committee Formed by a maximum of 19 members Revision office Formed by 2 representatives of associated companies elected by the Partners Meeting Director Secretary s office Political economy, financial, fiscal and of integration Reference sectors Industrial relations and external relations Energy, environment and territory Logistics and transport Training, HR Quality and certification Job market, cross-border workers Access to innovation and technology transfer 8

Joining AITI is simple! AITI is: a linking platform between enterprises and Institutions. It has the aim of safeguarding category interests; both for big realities and small companies. It is an efficient services centre. AITI is built around the needs of every associate that participates actively in the association life. People of the industry with clear ideas and firm objectives to reach. The biggest companies of the Canton are in AITI Registered manufacturing companies in the Ticino Canton, according to criteria established by labor federal Laws, are about 500, they give work to over people and they have an average number of clerks per company in line with the Helvetic average. AITI associates are almost the totality of realities with more than 100 employees and constitute the most relevant part of the entire industrial cantonal section. Besides manufacturing companies in its strict meaning, there are associates which operate in the tertiary sector, offering significant service performances in the industrial area. The Association groups together industrial entities, service industry entities and category associations operating in the cantonal territory. The website is updated regularly. For every affiliate it is possible to read relevant company data, history, products offered, their activity and market sector. On the same website, moreover there are information on the economic progress, Association s taking offices, conferences schedule and events organized for associate companies and for the public, information on laws and regulations, services offered and much more. Ask for a form 9

Association profile AITI, Association of Ticino s industries, is a private and independent organization headquartered in Lugano and established in 1962 to promote and support industries in the Ticino canton. With over 200 associates, companies operating in every industrial field, business services and category associations, AITI groups together almost the totality of enterprises with more than 100 employees, that provide jobs for more than people, for a turnover higher than 13 billion Swiss francs. Rightly AITI is considered the point of reference of the cantonal industrial sector. AITI is increasingly oriented to satisfy concrete needs of associated enteprises, to promote interests of industrial companies and of cantonal economy, and at the same time to create a widespread entrepreneurial spirit and an exchange of knowledge and experiences between entrepreneurs. AITI s activity is also aimed to represent proposals of the industrial system in its economical and productive evolution towards political and administrative institutions, trade unions, and all other forces and social parties, as well as information organs. The Ticino industry has operated in the last 20 years in a picture of deep changes. The reorganization of production and the introduction of technical progress helped to increase the level of competitiveness of AITI s associates, the majority of which is active on the global market. Thanks to its strategic position between two economically strong areas like Zurich and Lombardy, the Ticino canton offers an ideal environment for the development of entrepreneurial activity. At present the Ticino industry is the first creator of wealth in the canton, as a mark of the innovation ability and dynamic of this sector. Competitiveness, internationalization, enlargement and qualification of the production base, facilitation and support to investment processes, promotion of technological innovation, these are the priority needs and requests from the world of enterprises that AITI inteds to continue promoting. AITI cooperates independently with other cantonal economical associations and it is member nationally of both the Swiss Entrepreneurs Union and Economiesuisse, the Federation of Swiss Enterprises. 10
