7 Introduction Welcome to the AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010 Sustainable Design Autodesk Official Training Guide, a training guide for use in Authorized Training Center (ATC ) locations, corporate training settings, and other classroom settings. Although this guide is designed for instructor-led courses, you can also use it for self-paced learning. The guide encourages self-learning through the use of the AutoCAD Civil 3D Help system. For detailed explanations of features and functionality, refer to the Help in the software. Objectives After completing this guide, you will be able to: Analyze the location of a potential building site, perform building orientation and grading, identify hazards within the project area, and determine the necessary remediation. Use Map 3D and Google Earth to analyze a stream near a project site and use a Civil 3D corridor to model a stream restoration design. Model corridors to avoid wetlands, design detention ponds, and design stormwater conveyance channels. About the Civil Engineering Processes in this Courseware This book guides you through a number of sustainable design scenarios for several different projects. The primary focus of this guide is to teach a qualified engineer or designer how to use AutoCAD Civil 3D as a tool in various sustainable design solutions. This guide is not intended to teach sustainable design principles or to recommend one engineering procedure over another. It is understood that design procedures can and do vary by region, organization, and even individual engineer. vii

8 A Brief Introduction to Sustainable Design Sustainable design in the civil engineering and surveying industries is increasingly important. Civil engineers and designers are learning more about sustainable design and how software can help them apply sustainable principles and create designs that meet specific criteria. Increasingly, regulations are changing to support sustainable design principles. Regulations on stormwater, zoning codes and wetlands now require sustainable design practices in some regions. Companies who practice sustainable design may receive tax incentives or be able to pass through the review process more quickly. Definition of Sustainability Sustainable Design means having the lowest possible impact on the environment by eliminating waste, using the least resources, and maintaining the health of our communities. To arrive at sustainable design you take these principles and apply them through design innovation. You may have been practicing sustainable design for years, and may have been using Autodesk products to do so. By its nature, civil engineering considers factors such as environmental impact, socioeconomic impact, and construction and maintenance cost. Listed below are some key sustainable design practices and descriptions of how they have been used. Protect water quality Design ponds, channels, and other features aimed at removing sediment or contaminants, thus improving downstream water quality. Avoid sprawl and disconnected communities Use the AutoCAD Map 3D tools in AutoCAD Civil 3D to generate mapping and prepare exhibits used by land planners, engineers, and government agencies to locate new developments based on economic and environmental impact. Reduce the impact of infrastructure development on the environment Use AutoCAD Civil 3D to find innovative ways to reduce the impact of infrastructure on the environment. Reduced digging, blasting, or rerouting of natural drainage, reduces development costs. AutoCAD Civil 3D enables engineers to quickly create and evaluate multiple design scenarios to determine the best choice. Protect natural resources Use AutoCAD Civil 3D to assess the impact of development on wetlands and other natural features; use the tools provided for calculating and documenting both impact analysis and mitigation plans. viii Introduction

9 Civil engineers are beginning to integrate sustainable design principles into their design practices. Regulations are being put in place to support global sustainable design objectives. The goal of this course is to identify AutoCAD Civil 3D tools, features, and procedures that can be used to support a sustainable design approach. The examples explored in this guide include: Site selection Grading mitigation and optimization Parking footprint reduction Building orientation Soil pollution mitigation Stormwater management Erosion and sedimentation control Stream restoration design Reduction of wetland impact After completing this course, you will be able to use AutoCAD Civil 3D to implement sustainable design practices into your workflow. Prerequisites This guide is designed for civil engineers and designers with a firm grasp of the fundamental features of AutoCAD Civil 3D and civil engineering principles. It is recommended that you have: In-depth knowledge of essential Civil 3D features and functionality. AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010 installed on your computer. Google Earth installed on your computer. Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows XP. Using This Guide The lessons are independent of each other. However, it is recommended that you complete these lessons in the order that they are presented unless you are familiar with the concepts and functionality described in those lessons. Each chapter contains: Lessons Usually two or more lessons in each chapter. Exercises Practical, real-world examples for you to practice using the functionality you have just learned. 10 CD Contents The CD attached to the back cover of this book contains all the data and drawings you need to complete the exercises in this course. Installing the Exercise Data Files from the CD To install the data files for the exercises: 1. Insert the CD. 2. Double-click the self-extracting archive setup.exe. Unless you specify a different folder, the exercise files are installed in the following folder: C:\Autodesk Learning\AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010\Sustainable Design After you install the data from the CD, this folder contains all the files necessary to complete each exercise in this guide. Notes, Tips, and Warnings Throughout this guide, notes, tips, and warnings are called out for special attention. Notes contain guidelines, constraints, and other explanatory information. Tips provide information to enhance your productivity. Warnings provide information about actions that might result in the loss of data, system failures, or other serious consequences.
