A case study for developing a supplier management program will be presented. Working with UL in Brand Protection Mr. Rod Jones, Investigations Manager, Anti-Counterfeiting Operations, Underwriters Laboratories This session will provide an overview of the UL anti-counterfeiting program and how law enforcement and rights holders can partner with UL on enforcement and training initiatives. Working with U.S. Customs and Border Protection Leader: Ms. Therese Randazzo, Director, IPR Policy, U.S. Customs and Border Protection This session will continue the discussion from the panel session on working with U.S. CBP to protect intellectual property rights. It will provide participants the opportunity to speak directly with CBP personnel, learn more about their program and learn how both the public and private sector can form effective partnerships to combat IP crime at the border. Brand Protection Solutions Magic Bullet vs. the Budget Leader: Ms. Lori Campbell, Chief of Operations, The Label Printers This discussion will focus on building an appropriate brand protection solution within budgetary constraints; understanding the scope of the problem, its financial impact on the organization (aka the CODN), and the cost-benefit analysis of proposed technology solutions. Examining Case Management Principals Leader: Ms. Judith Lykins, Global Operations Manager, Anti- Counterfeiting Operations, Underwriters Laboratories This discussion will focus on the various issues surrounding case management and implementing solutions to effectively document and manage investigations. There are a number of options available that range from very simple document management to a wide variety of electronic case management systems. The Inside View of Counterfeiting in Los Angeles Leader: Mr. Kris Buckner, President, Investigative Consultants Leader: Mr. Ryuichi Ishitani, Detective, Piracy Unit, LAPD This discussion will cover the counterfeiting and piracy issues in Los Angeles and the growing trends that are being seen. Topics to be discussed will be enforcement and investigative techniques and the growing trend of gang members becoming involved in IP Crimes. Setting up an Effective Training Program Leader: Mr. Graham Hagger, Training Consultant, Graham Hagger Consultancy This discussion will examine how the protection of IPRs can be enhanced by a successful training strategy; looking at how students learn, what motivates them and how this in turn can lead to enforcement successes. The discussion will explore effective approaches to using civil remedies to address trademark infringement, counterfeiting and piracy. Prosecutors from the state and federal government will discuss how rights holders may best initiate a criminal investigation of an intellectual property crime, support a criminal prosecution of such crime, and most important what remedies are available upon a successful prosecution, including imprisonment, statutory fines, forfeiture, and restitution.
