01 Hydrology and Water Resources 1. Automatic Hydrological Information System 1.- Automatic Hydrological Information System (AHIS) An AHIS is a system that is able to collect, transmit in real time, process and submit all data that describe the hydrological and hydraulic condition of a river basin, for the purpose of managing and exploiting its water resources and being able to take appropriate action against possible eventualities. SICE's experience with these systems ranges from the first installation of the system to the subsequent maintenance and operation service, provided by qualified and experienced personnel who are able not only to manage and control the system, but also to create new computer utilities or tools to facilitate user access to the information that is generated. From an AHIS control center, SICE is able to manage data from multiple systems (AWQIS, ROEA, etc.) to allow it to be operated by different users. 12

01 Hydrology and Water Resources 1. Automatic Hydrological Information System The Basin Control Center is the operational center of a basin administration. Centralized in the AHIS, data from multiple systems can be managed and operated by different users. 17 01 Hydrology and Water Resources 2. Automatic Water Quality Information System 2. Automatic Water Quality Information System (AWQIS) An AWQIS meets the need for precise and reliable information on the quality of continental surface water. This type of control can be applied to critical points to monitor outflows and protected areas through the real time measurement of physical-chemical parameters, the activation of pollution alarms and an analysis of trend curves and behavioral studies. Its purpose can be summarized as: Provides qualitative information on pollution and its evolution over time. Deters against intentional discharges. Monitoring in real time allowing immediate alert actions to existing catchments Facilitates control and short-term monitoring of the discharge. 17

01 Hydrology and Water Resources 2. Automatic Water Quality Information System SICE installs metering networks and offers subsequent maintenance and operation services, encouraging the use of AWQIS by the customer's personnel as part of their protection and warning activities in zones of special interest, river patrols and water quality management for activities to monitor, control, authorize and sanction waste poured into a river basin. 20 01 Hydrology and Water Resources 3. Hydro-meteorological Network 3. Hydro-meteorological Network A hydro-meteorological network consists of three fundamental elements REMOTE STATIONS COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM CONTROL CENTER for controlling hydro-meteorological variables HUMIDITY PRECIPITATION TEMPERATURE FLOW WIND DIRECTION AND SPEED SICE installs and maintains all these components. 20

01 Hydrology and Water Resources 3. Hydro-meteorological Network Hydro-meteorological Network elements 01 Remote stations: are in charge of collecting data provided by sensors and processing, sorting and storing them before finally transmitting them. Report instantaneously on severe alarms. SICE also has data acquisition systems that it produces in house for different station types. 02 Communications System: is used to transmit the information recorded by the stations to the processing centre. SICE has experience with all types of communications, from satellite (DVB, INMARSAT, GOES, etc.) to UHF, VHF or Tetra radio systems, as well as the most simple GSM/GPRS systems. 03 Control Center: is the place where the system is operated and monitored and where all information from the remote stations is collected. Its main functions are communications management, storing data, displaying and managing alarms and emergencies. 21

01 Hydrology and Water Resources 4. Early warning and Decision Support System 4. Early warning and Decision Support System (DSS) Floods are the most common and frequent natural disaster worldwide, causing considerable loss of property and claiming numerous lives. Water authorities worldwide are aware of this problem and are increasingly making progress with the implementation of so-called Early Warning Systems or eventuality Decision Support Systems, in which SICE is expert. In general terms, the early warning and decision support systems provided by SICE are based on modelling of the hydrological response of a basin or system at three basic levels - hydrological models, hydraulic models and dam management -, helping in the reduction of reaction time in identifying risks and their potential effects and guarantee protection of the watershed, minimizing damage and alerting the relevant authorities and the affected population. 22

01 Hydrology and Water Resources 4. Early warning and Decision Support System Relevant Projects 01 Project for the Communication System Of Hydrological Information in the border section of Tajo River Basin (SICOINFRONJO) 02 Design and development of a Hydrological Information Management and Analysis System (SCADA) for the Official Gauging Stations Network of the River Basins in Spain 03 Upgrade of the Hydrological Information and Alarm Systems (SCADA) of Navarre 04 Technical Assistance for the Update, Maintenance and Exploitation of the SCADA System in the Water Quality Automatic Information System Program 23

01 Hydrology and Water Resources 5. Waste Water Quality Control 5. Waste Water Quality Control With the aim of equipping waste water treatment plants (WWTP) with instrumentation for continuously measuring the quality of waste water, SICE installs, maintains and operates Waste Water Quality Control Systems that are able to analyze various parameters in the effluent from each installation that is discharged into both streams and river basins. This ensures both the protection of the environment and compliance with requirements established in discharge authorizations issued by the relevant authorities. As well as placing an emphasis on parameter measurement or monitoring elements, SICE's experience with water quality has shown it to be necessary to create and thoroughly optimize a series of auxiliary components. These, in conjunction with measurement components, will help to achieve an operational, reliable, robust and low maintenance system. 24

01 Hydrology and Water Resources 5. Waste Water Quality Control Advantages of System Implementation Real-time monitoring of the influent water quality that allows bypass of the plant in case of detected contaminants that could damage the biological process. Anticipation in the treatment process due to know the water pollutant load in real time. Real-time monitoring of the treated water quality, checking the correct operation of the plant avoiding environmental damage and punish the operating entity. 25

01 Hydrology and Water Resources 5. Waste Water Quality Control SICE currently monitors the waste water quality in 45 STP In each system can measure up to 14 different quality parameters This system allows monitoring of water quality in the plant in real time 24/7 26
