2 INTRODUCTION To the attractiveness of colors, which are spread all over our visual nature, only few people will remain unaffected. J.W. Goethe The cosmetics industry is highly fashion-oriented and influenced by colors, shapes, scents and sensors. In particular, the colored cosmetics is continuously increasing in diversity. Effect pigments impart decorative color cosmetics, gloss and glitter, but they can also enhance other body care products such as skin care and cleansing products. For product concepts whose brand values are bond in visuality and color, effect pigments can raise those products to another dimension. These concepts emphasize sustainable brand identity and image by emotion-eliciting color impressions. Their properties are defined by their composition. Effect pigments consist of pure or synthetic mica, or titanium dioxide platelets uncoated or their mixtures coated with bismuth- or iron oxides. The color stimulus is generated by the different composite layers. Colors are obtained by increasing the thickness of TiO 2 layer on mica surface. Those physical effects induce the optical color effect. The particle size and shape also affects the brilliance and glimmer generating effects.
