1 LITTLE CHUTE AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT Fostering a Community of Learners MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING Tuesday, June 10, 2008 Time: Place: Present: 5:30 p.m. Little Chute Middle School - LMC Board Members: Mary Janssen, Leon Biesterveld, Randy Sanders, Jerry Verhagen, Chuck George District Administrator, Dave Botz; Recording Secretary, Cheryl Vande Voort; and twelve guest(s). The Little Chute Area School District Board of Education Meeting was called to order by Board President, Mary Janssen, at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10, To approve the agenda as printed. To approve the minutes of the regular meeting of Tuesday, May 27, 2008 as printed. By: Leon Biesterveld. Second by: Chuck George. Approved To approve the minutes of the Closed Session of Tuesday, May 27, By: Leon Biesterveld. Second by: Chuck George. Approved Election of Officers: Public Forum: Board President Janssen took this opportunity to share two thank you cards with the board. One thank you was from Lois Baumgartle, high school IMC, for her salary increase for and the second from the Destination Imagination team for monetarily supporting their trip to nationals in Knoxville, TN. Communications: a. Nurse s Report: Kara Kramer, school nurse, was present to answer questions pertaining to her annual report b. School-To-Work: Lori Lohry, School-To-Work Coordinator, was at the board meeting to answer any questions the Board had regarding her report. c. Literacy Initiative: Kathy Schmitt and Linda Reetz of CESA 6 presented their literacy update and their projections for the school year to the Board. LCASD just completed the second year of a four year literacy project. d. Update on High School Technology/Engineering Program: HS Technology/Engineering teacher, Jim Matelski, briefed the board on the curriculum changes and revisions made since the referendum was completed. Jim shared student projects from the different areas of the

2 program. He also discussed departmental goals for the school year. e. Alcohol Tobacco Other Drug Abuse: Jim Neubert was not at the board meeting so he will give his ATODA report at the District Board Retreat. f. Health & Wellness Update: An overview of the District s Health and Wellness Policy implementations for the school year were discussed as well as the goals and objectives for the school year. g. Spring Season Athletic Report: Athletic Director, Anna Maass, updated the Board on the spring athletic programs for the school year. h. Co-curricular Meeting Update: Board member, Leon Biesterveld, gave a brief report on a Co-curricular meeting he attended June 3 rd. i. Board Retreat Reminder: The District Board Retreat will be held on June 24 th, from 8:30 12:30 in the middle school LMC. District Finances: a. Bills & Claims: A copy of the bills and claims for payment was reviewed by the Board. b. Treasurer s Report: A brief treasurer s report was given by Business Manager, Debbie Pelegrin. Action Items: a. Approval of Checks for Payment: Checks #58928 through #59014 in the amount of $1,049, were presented for approval. To approve checks #58928 through #59014 in the amount of $1,049, as presented. By: Leon Biesterveld. Second by: Jerry Verhagen. Approved. b. Approval to Continue Paying Bills through June 30 th : Board approval was sought to continue paying bills through June 30 th as this is the only Board meeting in June. To approve the continuation of bill paying through June 30 th. By: Jerry Verhagen. Second by: Chuck George. Approved c. Taher Food Service: A recommendation was made to award Taher, Inc. the FSMC contract (renewable for four years) with a 15 cent increase per meal. To approve the recommendation to award Taher, Inc. the FSMC contract with the price increase. Ayes 4; Opposed 0; Abstained 1

Elementary School Breakfast Program: At the May 27 th board meeting Windy Propson, Taher Food Service Director, discussed starting a breakfast program for the school year at the elementary school. A recommendation was made to approve the elementary school breakfast program on a 1 year trial basis with a report at the end of the year. To approve the recommendation to start a breakfast program at the elementary school on a one year trial basis. By: Chuck George. Second by: Randy Sanders. Approved e. Resolution Authorizing Participation in the 2008 Wisconsin School Districts Cash-Flow Management Program, the Borrowing of Funds for the School Year, and the Issuance and Sale of One or More Series of Tax and Revenue Anticipation Promissory Notes: Administration recommended approval of the resolution authorizing our continued involvement with the cash-flow management borrowing program for next year. To approve the Resolution Authorizing Participation in the 2008 Wisconsin School Districts Cash-Flow Management Program, the Borrowing of Funds for the School Year, and the Issuance and Sale of One or More Series of Tax and Revenue Anticipation Promissory Notes. By: Leon Biesterveld. Second by: Jerry Verhagen. Approved Roll Call Vote: Jerry Verhagen, aye; Leon Biesterveld, aye; Mary Janssen, aye; Randy Sanders, aye; and Chuck George, aye. f. Employment of Personnel: There was one recommendation for employment at this board meeting. Director of Pupil Services, Jim Neubert, recommended the hiring of Brittany Miller as a special education teacher for the elementary school for the school year. To approve the recommendation of hiring Brittany Miller for the elementary school special education teacher position for the school year. By: Randy Sanders. Second by: Jerry Verhagen. Approved g. Special Board Meeting: A special board meeting was scheduled for June 24 th at 12:30 p.m. to discuss a Resolution to Establish a Fund 73 Account for Other Post Employment Benefits. To approve the recommendation for a special board meeting to establish a Fund 73. By: Chuck George. Second by: Jerry Verhagen. Approved

4 h. Request for Use of Soccer Equipment: High school soccer coach, Jack Coffey, requested the use of soccer equipment for use during the summer contact days July 28 th - July 31 st. To approve the request for use of soccer equipment for summer contact days July 28 th July 31 st. By: Randy Sanders. Second by: Leon Biesterveld. Approved i. Donations: There were multiple donations for board approval at the meeting. Three donations for the elementary school Learning Garden project one was from a $7,500 Lowe s Toolbox Grant, two was a Fox Valley Community Foundation donation in the amount of $2,300, and three was a 2007 CheeseFest donation in the amount of $1,250. There were also multiply donations for the Destination Imagination group and the donations follow: Bruce Curry $500, Al Adler $200, Prudential Match $200, Culver s $680, ATCAM $500, Van Zeeland Landscape $75, Kiwanis $1,000, Karate America $150, BLC $250, Knights of Columbus $100, LCFPA $500, Capital CU $25, LC Jaycees $500, Family, friends and staff $939, for a total of $5, Athletic Director, Anna Maass, also submitted a copy of all the donations from the Little Chute Booster Club (totaling $13,671.64) the Middle School Athletic Association (totaling $15,927.12) and the Football Program (totaling $900.00). To accept all donations as listed. j. Coaching Recommendations: Athletic Director, Anna Maass, had two coaching recommendations for board approval: Maggie Farley was recommended as the Head JV Poms coach and Beau DeBruin as a volunteer football coach. To approve the coaching recommendations of Maggie Farley and Beau DeBruin. By: Randy Sanders. Second by: Jerry Verhagen. Approved As there was no other business to come before the Board, Board President, Mary Janssen, asked for a motion to adjourn the regular meeting and reconvene in Closed Session Wisconsin Statutes 19.85(1)(c) Considering employment, promotion, compensation, or performance evaluation data of any employee over which the governmental body has jurisdiction or exercises responsibility. a.
