CAUTION The interior of your receiver (Re)playBox contains some components that are under high tension, never open the appliance, even after unplugging the power supply. In general, electrical appliances are not connected to earth, you can then get some electrical discharges (which are not risky) when you touch 2 appliances at the same time (or an appliance and an aerial cable). Our advice is to connect the equipment after all the sockets connections have been made. To clean the receiver or its remote control, do not use any solvent or detergent. A dry clothe or slightly dampened with water will be perfect to take off the dust. Do not install the receiver near other appliances. Choose an aerated place and never put anything on his ventilation slots. The receiver must not be exposed to dripping or splashing, and no object filled with liquid, such as vases, shall be put on the appliance. Never put the appliance on the top of another appliance, the overheating could cause a premature ageing of the components. In case of a storm, disconnect all your audiovideo appliances from the main supply: they could have damaged not covered by the guarantee. The remote control needs 2 AA 1,5V batteries. Check the polarity before fitting them into the remote control. In the respect of environment and law, do not throw your used batteries in the bin. Take them to your local store where special boxes are provided to recycle the used one. The installation and the use of the receiver are based on pre-programmed channels. In case of a problem on one channel, get a specialized magazine to find out if this channel is still broadcasting in Free To Air. For your information, the operators frequently change the channel s characteristic without prior notice. Your (Re)playBOX receiver is compatible with DiSEqC 1.2, it could then direct all the DiSEqC 1.2 motor. In case of a DiSEqC 1.2 motorised installation, we advise you to install the motor in an easily accessible location (avoid chimney for example). Motors may have to be screwed up or lubricated An installation in a not very accessible place would be difficult to maintain. For your information the DiSEqC standard is a registered trademark by Eutelsat. If you have only one satellite receiver, you will not be able to record a different satellite channel from the one your are watching. We then advise you to keep your terrestrial aerial if you got one. 1

1 General installation advice A Choice of the location and satellite dish assembling Whatever your choice of installation, your fixing must be stable and vertical. In the event of an obstacle, respect the rule of distances explained below. For example, a building with a height of 10m will not interfere with the reception as soon as it is situated at more than 15m from the satellite dish. For a motorised installation, only a patio stand or a wall stand off arm is suitable. For the satellite assembly, look at the assembly sheet provided with the satellite dish screwing kit. CAUTION : Please handle the satellite dish with caution because its fringes might be sharp. 3

Take care that there is not a strand of the braid in contact with the central heart of the coaxial cable. If you screw the F plug very easily, the cable may disconnect itself. Do not worry if the screwing is a bit hard, that means that the F plug is adapted to the cable. When your installation is finished, do not forget to protect the LNB connexion with appropriate waterproof materials, isolation paste, or in defect silicone (see picture below). LNBs badly insulated or not insulated at all are not covered by the guarantee. 5 mm 8 mm 4

D LNBs assembly Your satellite kit can contain various type of LNB LNB in metal grey (schema D1): make sure to position the triangular mark (5) upwards. It is normal that the body of the head is tilted on 45, the cable leaves tilted at 45. Other LNBs (graduations): must be positioned vertically. See schema D2 (the cable leaves vertically). In both cases, never remove the horn protection cap. D1 D2 E Pre-programmed channels and satellites Your (Re)playBOX receiver is delivered pre-programmed on the main satellites available in Europe. Some satellites require a one meter satellite dish, you will not be able to receive them with a lower size satellite dish, even if this satellite appears in your preprogrammed channel list. You will use these channels to point your satellite dish towards the satellite you want. The table 1 gives you the satellite dish necessary size, in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, for each satellite, as well as the reference channel, which will be useful to align your dish with the satellites. Table 1: Reference channel Importante notes: Table 1 does not mention the satellites, which do not broadcast (or very little) in Digital Free To Air. The reference channel were validated at the time of drafting of this user manual, we cannot guarantee that they will still be there. In the event of a problem at the time of searching a satellite, get a specialized magazine to check if the reference channel is still a Free To Air channel (like What Satellite and Digital TV). Use, if possible a channel with the highest debit (SR) as possible. For example for Hotbird, 76 could replace 72 as a reference channel. For the alignment, you must imperatively know which satellite you wish to receive. If you have any doubt check the pre-programmed channels at the end of this user manual. 5

2 Installation of a fixed dish on a satellite Read the installation advice, and particulary the paragraph E (page 5). A B Connections The receiver must be disconnected from the power supply, connect directly the LNB to the receiver LNB input. Connect the television to the receiver scart socket output. Switch on the television and connect the receiver to the power supply. A point appears on the Receiver display. Press on the key. The starting sequence appears on the receiver display, which is: display of ON then switch off, then ON appears again, then SCAN, then ON then finally If the television does not display a black screen with a message No signal, checks the scart leads connections and/or force the A/V or EXT mode of your television (see your TV user manual). Alignment / Satellite dish orientation Find in Table 1 (page 5) the satellite reference channel number that you wish to receive (example: 072 = ZDF if you would like to receive HotBird). Type on the remote control the channel number. The screen stays black or you can read no signal. Press on the remote control the INFO key (i) to show the reception gauge level at the bottom of the screen (see pictures underneath). The blue line show the level of signal, and the red line show the level of quality. On the example underneath, the signal is not enough on the left (black screen, quality line zero) and the signal is correct on the right (ZDF image on the screen and quality almost at its maximum). Put the satellite dish vertically (the graduations on the back indicate ) and roughly direct it towards the south. Make a slow sweeping (about 20 seconds) of a quarter of spin on the left then a quarter of spin on the right while checking on the television. The indicator should not show anything at this stage. Incline the satellite dish for 2 degrees (about 2cm on the top of the satellite dish) towards the top and then start again the sweeping. Proceed by 2 degrees step until the indicator goes up and that the channel appears. When the channel appears, adjust the alignment (vertically and horizontally) to get the maximum of signal. Tighten all the screws definitively, except those, which fix the LNB in its support. Note: The size of the level indicator does not really matter. What does matter is the variation when you move the satellite dish. When the signal is going up a bit, stop the sweeping to see if the quality line increase. 6

C Adjustment of counter polarization Spin the LNB clockwise in its support for a few degrees to further increase the level of signal. If the signal decreases, spin it in the other way. Once you obtain the best signal, tighten definitively the screws from the LNB. You can now watch all the satellite channels from the satellite you just aligned your satellite dish on. 3 Installation of a bi-head satellite dish Astra 19,2 + Hotbird The easiest way of receiving Astra and Hotbird satellite is to install a LNB called Monobloc on an 80cm satellite dish. A LNB Monobloc contain a DiSEqC 1.0 switch that you have to declare before aligning the satellite dish. A Switch declaration Press on the MENU key Press on OK to validate the menu system On the DiSEqC line, press on 4 to show 1.0 Press on the key [Back] to come back in the main menu Go down on Channel search and then press OK Go down on manual search and then press OK On the row satellite, select ASTRA with the keys 34 Go down on the DiSEqC row and select 2 with the keys 34 Go back on the satellite row and select HOTBIRD with the keys 34 Go down on the DiSEqC row and select 1 with the keys 34 Leave all the menus by pressing on the key [Exit] 7

B Installation / Alignment Install the Monobloc like you see on the schema underneath. Do the alignment on Hotbird like indicated in the preceding paragraph (fixed dish on a satellite) When you receive Hotbird, you should automatically receive the Astra channels. Sometimes, it is necessary to adjust the alignment to optimise the reception of the 2 satellites. Caution: Some monoblocs have an inversed command. It can be then necessary to inverse 1 and 2 in the DiSEqC line. You can then watch the Free To Air pre-programmed channels on Astra 19.2 and Hotbird (from 64 to 409) Rougly 10 8

4 A Installation of a motorized unit Foreword This user manual will explain to you how to install a motorised installation with a motor ref: If you have another motor, please see in its user manual. The motor user manual contains as well an installation procedure for your (Re)playBOX receiver. We advise you to follow this one, which have been updated more recently. In any case you will have to do all these operations: 0 - Switch on the receiver Connect the receiver to the power supply, a point appears, press on the ( ) remote control key. The point disappears, then «ON»appears, and then, after a few seconds, the number of the last channel watches appears (0001 from output of factory). On the television, the screen indicates «no signal». 1 - Put the receiver on the reference satellite channel Check into the table 1 page 5 what is the reference satellite channel. Tape the 4 numbers of its figure on the remote control. For ex: 0072 for Hotbird. 2 - Go into the DiSEqC 1.2 menu Press on Menu, go down onto motor adjustment and then validate by OK. If the menu is not accessible (in grey), it means that the DiSEqC version (in the menu system) is on 1.0 instead of Reset the motor In the menu motor adjustment Select place the limit and validate by OK Go down on the reference position row and tape OK. The motor is going to its reference position (mechanical stop East on the Metronic motor, ref: ). 4 - Continuing rotation In the menu motor adjustment, go onto the row movement E/O. A press on the 4 key spin the motor towards the west. A second press stop the motor. Use the same way the 3 key to spin towards the East. Note: The size of the level indicator does not have a real importance as such. What is important it is the variation when you move the dish. When the level is going up a bit, stop the spinning to check if the quality level has increased. 5 - Step by step rotation In the menu motor adjustment, go onto the row adjust E/O. A press on the 4 key make the motor spin a step towards the west. A press on the 3 key make the motor spin a step towards the East. 6 - Give a number to a satellite In the menu motor adjustment, go onto the row satellite number. With the key 34choose the number you want. Press on OK and then confirm by pressing again on OK. Wait that the motor stops. 7 - Memorise a satellite position In the menu motor adjustment, go onto the menu Movement E/O, press on OK. The key OK switches off briefly on the screen. 8 - Display the signal indicator Press on the INFO (i) key. The indicator appears as 2 lines. For the alignment, you need to maximise the level (bottom line) then, when it is going up, optimise the quality (top line). If the level is too high, but the quality is not going up, that means you are on another satellite, you need to carry on sweeping. 9

B Necessary elements 1 - Satellite dish 2 - Screws and fixing 3 - Offset arms 4 - Universal LNB 5 - Mast or stand off arm Recommended Ø minimum 40mm (1,6ʼʼ) 6 - (Re)playBOX 7 - TV Pal for digital reception and Pal / Secam for analogue (to be able to watch it in colour) 8 - Scart Lead male/male 21 pin 9 - «F» plug 10 - Cable special for satellite (normal TV cable won t work) 11- Motor ,5V AAA

C Assembing the motor (See schema 2) Make sure the fixing (tube or stand off arm) is stabilised and strictly vertical. A gap of more than 1 degree (2cm, 0,78 per meter) from the vertical will prevent the motor to work correctly. In case, add some block between the wall and the fixing. Check the verticality with a spirit level or a plumb line. Warning: When you will screw the screw 2C (which must not be blocked), a too important tightening might break one of the support clamps. When the motor is assemble, do not fix it straight away on the mast or the stand off arm, some operations needs to be done near the receiver. Screw on all the screw without blocking it. The screw 2b must be tighten at the maximum and the cover 2a must be leave up to allow you to read the motor azimuth (angle in relation to south) Warning: the screw 2b must get in by the small hole in the bend mast and the nut must be tighten on the big hole side, with the rounded nut moulded the curves of the big hole. Adjust the motor elevation (read near 2d) on around

S/N 3mm441550nnnnnn D Connection For the installation you will need 2 pieces of cable. The first one, roughly 1,5m (4,92ft) to go from the LNB to the motor, the second one as long as it takes to go from the motor to the receiver. Prepare the cables and assemble the F plug at the end of the cable. Respect the dimension indicated on the schema above; the plug must screw on the aluminium foil roll up. Make sure that none of the braid strand is in contact with the central core of the cable. Motor Horizon-Horizon Ref Connect the receiver to the television with a scart lead. Put the motor near the receiver, on a table or on the floor, and connect the receiver LNB input to the Motor DEMO output with the 1,5m (4,92ft) cable, then switch on the receiver (0). Motor (Re)playBOX E Reset the motor and checking of the stops The reset of the motor is to reinitialise its position, and not to put him at 0, which means face south. Go into the DiSEqC 1.2 (2) menu and then reset the motor (3) (see pictures on the opposite) The motor will reinitialise while looking for is reference position (Mechanic east stop). The motor should stop at 45 (at the nearest 10 ). If it is not the case, check the mechanical stop as indicated at the end of this user manual. If the motor does not spin, connect the motor to the LNB with the long cable then reset the motor. To verify the right position of the mechanic west stop, do a continuous spinning (4) towards the west. The motor should stop at 45 (to within about 10 ). If it is not the case, check the mechanical stop (see inside the motor user manual). 12 (0)(2)(3)(4) See the paragraphs on the page 9.

F Prepare the motor You will now memorised the Hot Bird position then take back the motor precisely at 0 to assemble the satellite dish. 1) Put the receiver on the Hotbird reference channel (1), while typing 0072 on the remote control. 2) Give a number to the Hotbird satellite (6) (in any doubt put 4), and then wait that the motor stops spinning. 3) Look into the schema underneath the Hotbird position (the azimuth) in your region. Ex: Finistere (29) = 22 East. If you install your motor outside France, check on the map F1 (ex: Madrid = 25 E). F1 East Hotbird azimuths: left from the south Département Azimut Département Azimut Département Azimut Département Azimut Département Azimut Table 2 : azimuths of Hot Bird 4) Go into the DiSEqC 1.2 (2) menu then, with a continuing rotation (4), bring the motor roughly on the Hotbird azimuth in your region. Then bring the motor precisely to this azimuth with a step by step rotation (5). Example: Department 29 Azimuth 22: The person using the remote control must make the motor spin until you reach the metallic notch used to read the azimuth at 22. When we look at the graduations, the notch should go to 22 towards the right (in our example) so the satellite dish will be directed toward the left, so the East. (1)(2)(4)(5)(6) See the paragraphs on the page 9. 13

5) Memorised the Hotbird position (7) 6) With the Continuing rotation (4) then a step by step rotation (5), bring the motor precisely at the 0 position. 7) Switch off the receiver, take off the cables and then fix the motor on the top end of the support. 8) Direct approximately the motor towards the south. In case of an assembling on a wall, make sure the wall faces south (to within about 20 ) and use a 45cm stand off arm at least (ref: ): see schema F2. 9) Connect the receiver and the motor by the long wire prepared at the step D. F2 G Satellite dish assembling Assemble the different elements from the satellite dish in checking the user manual includes with it. For the METRONIC satellite dish in metal 77-80cm (Four holes), the satellite dish back support should be adjusted at 54 (check the picture above). For the 85cm Transparent Metronic satellite dish, adjusted the elevation at the maximum (45 ) For another satellite dish, try 48, but you might have to try some other value if you have any problem with the alignment. 14 (4)(5)(7) See the paragraphs on the page 9.

H Assembling the satellite dish on the motor Assemble the satellite dish and fix it on the motor s mast. The satellite dish U-Bolt must be the highest as possible on the angled arm to avoid the bottom of the dish to touch the motor. As the motor is at 0, make sure you perfectly align the dish offset arm with the motor (schema H1). Direct approximately the whole (satellite dish + rotor) towards the south. At this level, it is not necessary to tighten the nuts too much. Tighten up the lock nut 12a to the maximum (see schema 12). Tighten the elevation nut 12b to bring the satellite dish in vertical position. Check again that the satellite dish elevation is at 54 (graduation 12c) and that the satellite is vertical whatever the way (lateral and incline). Switch on the receiver, put it on the Hotbird reference channel while pressing 0072 on the remote control. Do a continuing rotation (4) until the stop 45 East and 45 West to check if there is no obstacle. If you get close from an obstacle during the spin, go back to paragraph 15 page 28 to adjust your mechanical stop. H1 12 N S 12a 12b 12c I Assembling the LNB head (See D page 5) (4) See the paragraphs on the page 9. 15

J Checking Before going to the final stage (the alignment) check that your installation looks like the picture below. 11 K Aligment / Satellite dish orientation At the end of the step K, you will receive the reference channel ZDF on the television screen. Do not go to step L (adjusting the alignment) if you do not receive it or if you receive another channel. 1) Put the receiver on the Hotbird reference channel 0072 then display the signal indicator (8). 2) Launch a slow scan (for 20 seconds) a quarter of the way on the right, then a quarter of the way on the left while pivoting manually the whole (satellite dish + rotor) around the mast, while checking the level. If the level is not going up, screw the nut 12b 1 round to increase the satellite dish incline and do the same manual scan. Carry on as above by step of 1screw round followed by a scan until the level increase. When you are on the right satellite, the image will appear in the background. Adjust it to obtain the maximum in level and quality (bar the longest as possible). In some area, it is normal that you will turn up to 20 times your nut, be patient. 3) Block temporally all the nuts. Warning: the Tighten of the nut is enough to debase the picture. Block the elevation by tightening the lock nut 12a. Warning: a too important tightening of the U-bolt 2e (schema 2 page 11), may break one of the fixing clamp. 16 (8) See the paragraphs on the page 9.

L Orientation adjustment Put the receiver on the Atlantic Bird 3 reference (1) channel. Check in diagram the Atlantic Bird 3 angular reading of your geographical area. Give (6) a satellite number to Atlantic Bird 3 (put 01 in case you hesitate). 16 Département Azimut Département Azimut Département Azimut Département Azimut Département Azimut Département Azimut Département Azimut Département Azimut Département Azimut Département Azimut Azimuts de Atlantic Bird 3 OUEST : à droite du SUD Atlantic Bird 3 west azimuth: right from the south Table 3 : azimuths of Atlantic Bird 3. If the motor does not stop at the right value, bring it with a continuing research (4) or step by step (5). Memorised (7) this position for Atlantic Bird 3. Leave all the menus and check that you correctly receive the Atlantic Bird 3 reference channel (3). If it is not the case, you have 2 cases: Primary case: You do not receive anything at all, even when you slightly move the satellite dish alignment. In that case, it means that an error has been made during the installation (mast not vertical, error between east and West, bad reading of the azimuth ). Restart the installation from the beginning while checking the details very carefully. Secondary case: You have a bad reception and you have to adjust slightly the satellite dish position angle (1 or 2 degrees) to receive correctly Atlantic Bird 3. In that case, the design curve of the motor is out of line with the real curve. We then advise you to go back to the step K while putting 2 more for the Hotbird position in your area (ex 24 E). If the result is not good, try 2 less. (1)(4)(5)(6)(7) See the paragraphs on the page 9. 17

M Satellite validation For each satellite, you have now to memorise the right position in the motor. The operation is done for Hotbird and Atlantic Bird 3, you have to do it for Astra, etc. Example for Astra 19 E Go onto the Astra reference channel (301 = TV5). Go into the DiSEqC 1.2 (2) menu and give a number (6) to Astra 19 E (03 if you hesitate). By a continuing rotation (4) and then a step by step rotation (5), make the motor spin to obtain the maximum level and quality. Memorised (7) the position founded. Check that you receive the Astra channel. If it is not the case, that means that you memorised another satellite, which emit some channels at the same frequency. Try the operation above again and make sure that your satellite dish is pointed slightly on the left from Hotbird like shown on the Diagram 17 underneath. Do the same operations for the other satellites. For your information, the diagram 17, gives you the satellites relative position for which some channels are pre-programmed in the metronic receivers. When you receive all the satellites, screw definitively all the nuts. Your installation is finished. Note: The Hispasat reception with a motorised installation is very difficult and need a perfect alignment. For the perfect reception of this satellite, we advise a fixed installation, with a particular look at the adjusting of the counter-polarization. Reminder: Atlantic Bird 3 = ex Telecom 2C 17 Turksat N «F» plug isolation When your installation is finished, do not forget to protect the LNB connexion with appropriate waterproof materials, isolation paste, or in defect, silicone (see picture C page 4). 18 (2)(4)(5)(6)(7) See the paragraphs on the page 9.

5 Connection with a fixed satellite dish already aligned on a satellite Notes: if your satellite dish is currently pointed towards Atlantic Bird 3 (ex Telecom 2C = national analogue channel in Free To Air), you will not have access to any digital channels. We then advise you to install another satellite dish to keep receiving the national channels in analogue and watch others channels in digital. The receiver being disconnected from power supply, connect directly the LNB to the LNB receiver input. Connect a scart lead from the television to the receiver TV output scart socket. Switch the television, connect the receiver to the power supply, the television indicate no signal. Press onto the OK key, the pre-programmed channel list appears. Look into the table 1 (page 4) to know which satellite number, your dish is currently pointed to (example Astra 19.2 = 3). You can select and watch the channel from this satellite (from 291 to 409 in our example). 6 Connection on a motorised DiSEqC 1.2 unit already aligned If you have a DiSEqC 1.2 motorised installation already installed, each satellite position is already correctly programmed in your motor. For the motor, a satellite is recognised by numeration. The user manual from your old receiver should indicate you the numbers used. If it is the case your (Re)playBOX installation will be very easy. If you do not have access to this numeration, use the one proposed in the table 1 page 4. Connect the cables and the leads as indicated on the figure 18 below. For each satellite, go onto the reference channel then give (6) the right satellite number. The motor should go automatically to the right position, which appears as an important quality line (see pictures underneath on the right). 18 S/N 3mm441550nnnnnn Satellite cable Scart cable (6) See the paragraphs on the page 9. 19

10 A Add channels You can add a particular channel, from which you know the technical characteristics, or add some new unknown channel (update). Add a particular channel A channel is emitted by what is called a transponder. It is a relay satellite from which you should known the 4 following parameters: Its frequency (e.g MHz). Its debit of symbol SR (e.g ) Its polarity (e.g. Vertical) The satellite which emits it (e.g. Astra 19.2). You will find these parameters in specialized magazines, which propose a monthly update, or on ou To add a channel go into the main menu / channel search / manual search On the Satellite row, select the satellite with 34 keys. As your LNB installation s parameters are already adjusted, leave the numbers indicated on the row 2 to 5. On the row polarization, choose horizontal or vertical. Go onto the row follow and then press on OK to access the second page. On the row frequency, enter the 5 figures of the satellite frequency. On the row SR, enter the 5 figures of its debit symbol (SR). At this stage, if the quality line has not gone up, that means that the numbers are false or out of date. Check back into the magazines or websites. On the row research network, leave deactivated. On the row programs type, choose all with the 34 keys. The option FTA (Free To Air) allows you to enter in memory the Free channels. The crypted option allows you to put in memory only the pay per view channels. Go onto the row start the research and type OK. The research start and the channel list found appears. This adjustment is suitable for a fixing on a gable if your stand off arm is at least at 45cm from the wall and the wall faces full south. If it is not the case you need to limit the movement of the dish to avoid it to be damaged against the wall. This adjustment must be done when the dish is set up on the motor. 28

Do not unscrew Fragile wires: correctly maintains the electrical bloc to avoid pulling out the wires. ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE (West the East) West: from the 0 position, make the motor spin (4) toward the west until the satellite dish being near the obstacle. Without unscrewing the big Phillips screw, pull towards you the white cylinder (the top and the bottom) and then make it spin to make the bottom stops faces the sensor. 32 16 Use with a VCR Though that your (Re)playBOX has a digital satellite PVR with a hard drive, you can connect a classical VCR onto the VCR scart. You will then be able to transfer onto cassettes the movies you had recorded onto the hard drive. Simply connect your VCR onto the receiver VCR scart input. To record the digital, the receiver needs to be switch on the channel to record. Then launch the recording on the VCR AV channel (0, AV, EXT ) See the VCR user manual for the exact manipulation. To read a cassette, simple launch the reading, the VCR will automatically take the hand onto the terminal. If it is not the case, press on the TV/VCR key of your VCR remote control. To transfer a digital recording onto a cassette, you just have to read this recording while the VCR records the AV channel. 17 Universal remote control The universal remote control should be programmed with a code (generally with 3 or 4 digits) to work with an appliance. The code is chosen by the universal remote control manufacturer, and not the manufacturer of the appliance to be directed. Your receiver has been recently built, it could happen that some universal remote control will not work with it, even if the manufacturer supply with Metronic code. If none of the Metronic code functions, try an automatic search. If the automatic search failed, it means that probably the code from the receiver has not been entered into the universal remote control. Thank you for understanding that Metronic will not be able to help you on the codes from a universal remote control which is not from the Metronic brand. It is recommended to contact the universal remote control manufacturer. 30

18 Digital PVR A General points Your (Re)playBOX contain a hard drive (HD). The hard drive capacity of 40 GigaOctets allow you to record about 25 hours. The duration is roughly because it depends on the rate of the emission you are recorded. In general, you need to count 1.5 Go per recording hour, but some emissions or channels might need 2Go/h or more. The Digital PVR offers you the classic functions of recording, read, fast forward etc. At the opposite as the VCR with Band, you have no loss of quality. But the biggest interest about the digital PVR is the function to allow you to move the time (Time-Shift). The function allows you to pause on an emission in direct, then read again when you want. You can then answer the phone, for example, without loosing any details of the emission you are watching. Go to 18-F for more details. The hard drive has not been designed as a long last storage tool. Like a computer, you have some risks of loosing some data. So, if you record an emission or a movie that you want to keep, we advise you to save it on a cassette, like we explained in 16. B Hard drive adjustment When you pause on direct (Time-Shifts), the hard drive needs to rotate to not loose anything of the action in progress. If the hard drive is in standby, you need about 10 seconds to initialise the hard drive. After the switching on and after each use, the hard drive goes in standby after sometime to save energy and make your (Re)playBOX quieter. To choose the time after the hard drive goes in standby: Go into Menu / Hard Drive On the row hard drive standby, choose a duration between 5 to 30 minutes. If you choose stop, the hard drive goes immediately in standby. If you choose always ON, the hard drive will always be ready for the Time-Shift. The Menu / Hard Drive / Hard drive Info gives you some information on the hard drive, and mainly the size of the disc used. Even if you have not done any recording 10 to 11% of the disc space is occupied. This is because of the space reserved for the Time-Shift, which is about 4Go, about 2 hours. In case of a problem with the digital PVR functioning, you might have to format the hard drive, like you could do for a computer. Formatting allow you as well to reduce the scanning time at start up, if it taking too long. For that, go into the menu Menu / hard drive / format, enter the Pin code and wait a few minutes. Warning: this operation will erase all the recording. 31

C Recording To record an emission you are watching, press simply on the key REC and wait a few seconds. During the recording, the front face display rec and a red point appear at the top right of the screen. On the remote control, only the volume, STOP and ON / OFF key are active. To stop a recording, press on STOP (<). A window asks you to confirm that you wish to finish the recording. Press on OK and then you come back in viewing mode. D Read To watch a recording, press on the key List to make appears the recording list (in TV mode, you can press as well on PLAY). With the arrows 56, highlight the recording you want to watch and press on OK. During the reading, you can use the keys: < STOP to go back to the recording list. ; PAUSE to do a stop on an image and then restart the reading. 8 FFW to do a fast forward (several press increase the speed) 7 REW for a fast backward I 4 SLOW to have a slow moving 4 PLAY to go out for the slow moving mode, fast forward or backward and came back in reading. E Programming To program a recording on a channel, start to watch this channel by pressing its number, or accessing with the OK key. Press onto the Timer key to enter into the programming mode. In case, a first window asks you to confirm the actual hour. If it is exact, go down on save and press on OK. If not, modify the values or watch a few second a channel, which display the time, which will put the receiver at the right time. 32

With the arrows select the first empty row and press OK to display the recording adjustment window. On the row satellite, select with the arrow 34 the satellite which emits the channel to record. On the row starting date, enter the emission date On the row starting hour, enter the time when the emission starts. On the same way, enter the adequate value in the row ending date ending time. On the row Type, choose once for a unique recording, everyday to start the recording everyday at the same time or weekly to record every week. On the row Destination, leave DD, which refers to a recording on the hard drive. The Choice VCR is to be used if you want to record with your VCR. Once your adjustments are finished, go down on recording and press on OK. F Time Shift To do a pause on direct, press simply the key TS or the key PAUSE. The image freezes, the display shows ts- then PAUS. To go back on the emission, press on PLAY, you are in (pre)recorded mode, the display shows PLAY. In pre-recorded, you can pause with the key PAUSE and then read again with PLAY. You can do as well a fast forward with the key FFW. Several following press on FFW make you go quicker en quicker, which is showed by the FF01, FF02, and FF04 etc. indication on the display. In fast forward, you can pick up the direct, the terminal show then PLAY. You can then go out from the pre-recorded mode (have a look further) or stay in prerecorded mode, which allows you to watch a slow-moving action which has just happened (impossible in direct). To leave the pre-recorded mode, press on STOP then confirm on OK. The display shows the channel number, you are again in direct. 33

G Recording management By pressing on the List key (or PLAY), you make the recording list to appear. The window indicates the number, the name of the recording, which by default the name of the channel, the duration, and the type of recording (TV or Radio). You can change the name by selecting the recording with the arrows 56, then by pressing on 4. Change the first letter with the arrows 56 Go to the next one with the key 4 Modify the second letter the same way, then the third one etc. Press on OK to leave and save. If you push on 4 by mistakes and that you do not want to change the name, press on the key [Back]. You can erase a recording by pressing on the key Del. After confirming by OK, the recording will be lost definitively. You need to wait a few seconds for the recording to be erased from the hard drive (roughly 10 seconds for a hour recording). 19 Digital services The digital emission has sometimes some supplement data giving some functions especially for the digital. The functions describe underneath are accessible only if the broadcaster emit the corresponding data. 34

A EPG (electronic program guide) The EPG key allows you to access the Electronic Program Guide. Most of the channels emit only some information concerning the emission in progress and the following one. By pressing on OK on the emission in progress, or the following, you access more detailed information on the emission. By pressing (Timer) after selecting the following emission, the data from this emission will enter automatically in a recording. B Audio modes Some emissions are broadcasted in multi-lingual version (VM). This is the case, for the channel Euronews on HotBird for example, which emit in French, Italian, Spanish, and English etc. To change the language, press on the AUDIO key then on the key 4. If several languages are emitted, the first row change, and you ear another language. If the Digital audio flux is available (very rare), his presence is indicated by the marks AC3. C Subtitles The (Re)playBOX is able to display the DVB subtitles. Press on the key (Subt), if the last row shows a language (SL ), that means a subtitle is available. Press then on 4 to display activated and press on Exit. If the last row displays NONE, that means there is no subtitles available. When the subtitle is activated, the sound quality is not guaranteed. To take off the subtitles display, press on (Subt) then on 4 to display deactivated. Leave with [Exit]. 20 Common interface (CI) The double common interface allows you to insert one or two CAM (Control Access Module). To preserve the precious module and the card which are going in, make sure you insert and take off the module when the (Re)playBOX is switched off. To take off the module, press right home on the button situated on the right then take delicately the module. In case of resistance do not force, the module and the receiver could be damaged and this is not covered by the guarantee. Even if each slot can receive all the types of module, the processor manages them differently. Then, if a module does work not very well in a slot, try the other one. 35

21 Questions / Answers Why does the screen stay black? The channel that you want to watch may be encrypted (pay per view). For your information, a broadcaster could emit an encrypted channel with information, which makes the receiver to believe that the channel is Free To Air. The opposite is possible. My motor is jammed, what do I have to do? Reset the motor (3) Why the motor is not rotating on its entire course? Some electronic stops prevent the motor from going to its mechanical stops. You need to position the motor electronic stops at the same place as the mechanical stops: See 14 page 28. At start up the scan is very long Format the hard drive. A Decrypted module is not working Put it in another slot. 36 (3) See the paragraphs on the page 9.
