11 HEBREW STRUCTURE OF THE EXAMINATIONS PAPER 1: READING TIME: 2 HOURS MARKS: 100 This paper consists of: 2 comprehension passages (60 marks) Literature questions (40 marks). (Note: Students will not be asked to regurgitate the theme or message of the pieces of Literature but to respond to it in a meaningful way, based on a point of departure e.g. a quotation, a picture etc.) PAPER 2: WRITING TIME: 2 HOURS MARKS: 100 This paper consists of: 1. Essay (Descriptive or narrative) 30 marks 2. Short transactional texts (sms, , advertisement, notes, letters etc.) 30 marks 3. Language in context: Reformulation. (Relating to a picture, deriving information from a chart ), persuasive text (40 marks) INFORMATION FOR PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION: The Preliminary examination will cover all the work studied in Grade 11 AND Grade 12 i.e. it will cover the full matric syllabus, apart from the Literature which has already been included in the portfolio section, which will be submitted to the IEB in due course. The format of the exams will be identical to that of the matriculation examination, as was the case also in June. This means that students will need to study the following: LITERATURE 1. 12 DIALOGUE TOPICS The dialogue topics are required as part of the oral examinations, but in addition, students will be required to write a dialogue on one or more of the following topics: 1. In the restaurant 2. Clothes 3. In the bank 4. Transport 5. Weather 6. At the doctor CREATIVE WRITING Students will be required to write an essay (based on the above topics), as well as shorter pieces, such as a persuasive text, an sms, a dialogue, an advertisement, a note etc. This section also tests the various language functions e.g. how to apologise, how to request something etc. MARK BREAKDOWN The preliminary examinations will count 200 marks out of the total of 400 marks. In addition, 100 marks are allocated to the portfolio. (The portfolio consists of 10 pieces, including the preliminary examinations themselves.) All other portfolio tests and assignments will have been concluded before the prelims. 100 marks are allocated to orals. The orals will be concluded before the prelims. The oral examination consists of various components: General discussion, discussion based on the texts we have studied, discussion based on 5 texts given to the students in advance, listening comprehensions and role plays based on the dialogue topics mentioned above.

THEORY EXAM: MARKS: 150 These questions will be taken from the work on Hardware, Software, Computer Management, Data Communications and Networks, ICT and Society (Read) Chapters 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 3.1 in the GRADE 11 textbook GRADE 12 textbook, All Chapters Notes on Algorithms and Object Orientated Programming, Theory of Databases The Exam will take the following form: Section A 10 Multiple choice questions Section B Short Questions on the various topics PRACTICAL EXAM: MARKS: 150 These questions will deal with Java Programming covering the following topics: Standard Input and Output Conditional Structures (IF) Looping Structures (FOR, WHILE) Arrays Strings (String functions/methods) Text Files (Input and Output) Math functions Working with object classes (creating and OBJECT and a DRIVER class to use the object) There will be 3 questions: The first will be an GUI based question, and will involve inputting from various GUI components and doing mathematical-type calculations. (File reading or writing could occur here) The second will be Object creation and usage problem solving. (File reading or writing could be used). The use of a single object and not an array (or list) of objects is likely. The third programme will be a problem solver. The learner can use any programming technique. (Possible file reading, 2D arrays, arrays or lists) the programme will be created almost entirely by the learner.
16 LIFE ORIENTATION TIME: 2 HOURS MARKS: 80 The examination for Life Orientation in September is a common assessment task (CAT) and is externally set. Content: The examination will comprehensively address content, knowledge and skills covered from term 1 to 3 in Grade 12. More than one type of question will be incorporated and focus primarily on the application of knowledge in an integrated manner. The question paper will include content related to Physical Education. Instructions: This question paper is divided into three sections: SECTIONS A and B are COMPULSORY. SECTION A consists of multiple-choice questions and questions requiring short responses. SECTION B consists of two 15-mark questions to which learners must provide direct responses. SECTION C consists of three 15-mark questions of which learners must answer TWO questions. Section A: 20 Marks Section B: 30 Marks Section C: 30 Marks A source or case study may be used to contextualise some of the questions. The questions have to be a combination of two or more types of questions ranging from what, why, list, describe, explain, multiple choice and true or false with a justification. Test understanding and factual knowledge. Responses should be short and direct and range from one word to a phrase or a full sentence(s) (in point form). Short open-ended, scenario-based, source-based and case study questions. Questions should be knowledge-based, from information learners have acquired from the Life Orientation content. Learners should display, present and apply knowledge and skills gained and display an understanding of reallife issues affecting the youth and society at large and give advice or possible solutions: demonstrate goalsetting and decisionmaking skills. Learners should provide direct responses, full sentences in point form and extended writing in short paragraphs. Questions will predominantly focus on the application of knowledge and skills. Learners will solve problems, make decisions and give advice, ranging from a few direct responses to extended writing of descriptive paragraphs or short essays that state, evaluate or examine an issue. Each question will focus on the specific topic or the integration of content. A short text/diagram/data/ graphs/cartoons can be provided as a stimulus.
