5 For your safety Both you and the Spectra are important to us. This is why we are giving you detailed safety information. It goes without saying that we consider a high level of safety most important. Guard against any remaining operational dangers. Safety informations Page 4 Correct use and foreseeable incorrect use Spectra I The Spectra I is a specialities machine for use in catering. Depending on appliance configuration, it is suitable for processing several flavours of instant powder. Spectra I is solely for serving instant drinks and hot water subject to observance of these instructions and the technical data. Cup warmer (Option) The cup warmer is an optional add-on unit for Spectra coffee machines. It is solely for preheating coffee cups and glasses that are required for preparing drinks. Important Do not use the Spectra I and your add-on units until you have read and understood these instructions in their entirety. Keep the instructions handy near your Spectra. All persons operating the Spectra I are required to have read and understood the instructions. This does not apply to selfservice customers. Self-service machines must be attended to at all times in the interests of user protection. Please pass on the operating instructions to subsequent users if the Spectra is sold or handed on. The cup warmer is not suitable for drying dishcloths or other cloths. For cups to be warmed, they need not be covered. i Should you require further information or should particular problems arise which cannot be solved by consulting these instructions, ask for the necessary information from your local customer services partner or directly from Franke Kaffeemaschinen AG in Aarburg, Switzerland.
6 General dangers that could arise when using Spectra I and its add-on units. DANGER Potential fatality from electric shock! Never operate an appliance that has damaged parts or a damaged mains connection. If you detect any symptoms of damage (e.g. a smell of burning), unplug appliance immediately from the mains and consult your service engineer. If the mains cable of this appliance is damaged, then it must be replaced by a special connection lead. Only allow a qualified service engineer to change the mains connection lead. Ensure that the appliance and the mains cable are not near hot surfaces, such as a gas- or electric cooker or oven. Ensure that the mains cable is not pinched or chafes against sharp edges. The appliance contains live parts. Opening the appliance is potentially lethal. Never open and repair the appliance yourself. Do not make any modifications to the appliance that are not described in the operating instructions of the appliance. Allow repairs to be undertaken only by a service engineer with original spare parts and original accessories.! WARNING Risk of eye injury, injury in general and destruction! Any objects in the powder container or in the grinding mechanism can cause splinters to shoot out, resulting in damage to the machine or in injury. Do not put any objects into the powder container. Never poke around with an object in the powder container.! WARNUNG Risk of injury! When reaching into the Spectra I, the internal machine parts could cause pinching and grazing. Open the Spectra I if daily operations require so (for cleaning the instant system). When Spectra I is open, work with care. 7 ! WARNING Danger from powder residue! Irregular cleaning can cause powder residue to build up in the machine, clog the outlets or get into the products. Clean Spectra I and the add-on units at least once a day. Read the chapter Cleaning and rinsing! CAUTION Damage resulting from water jets! The Spectra I is not protected from water jets. Here, you can learn more about the functions and options of your Spectra I and where the control elements are located. Spectra I and add-on units The Spectra I comes with numerous options. So that you get an overview of your appliance, allow us at this point to set out an exemplary configuration and several options. You will get to know the Spectra I with its operating elements, just as you do the cup warmer. Note that your Spectra may differ in appearance depending on configuration. 11 Basic The basic operating element. It is provided as a standard variant. You can call up as many as eighteen products conveniently and quickly. You can configure the keys freely. You can display up to eight products. The keys can be configured individually. Display with system- or error messages The display indicates system- or error messages alternately with the information presented in the second line. Touch Another version is the touch screen. It is operated by direct touch. It is possible to display each one of the forty possible beverages in graphic form in any size. The displays can be freely selected. 12 Programming keypad The programming keypad allows on/off switching of your Spectra, activation of cleaning or rinsing. You can also programme your Spectra individually with the Adjust plus card. The chip-card reader allows you to save the programmed settings on the Adjust plus card. 13 Installation and technical data For proper operation of your Spectra, it must be installed by an expert this will be done for you by one of our service engineers. You will need to make a few preparations these are the prerequisites for impeccable pleasure with your Spectra. Installation and technical data Page 12 Installation Preparations The mains connection for the Spectra I must be safeguarded using a offset current safety switch. Each pole of the mains supply must be capable of isolation through a switch. The water connection must have a stop valve with a nonreturn valve and filter, and must comply with the standards set down in the technical specifications. The water for powder specialities must always be fresh, contain oxygen and be rich in minerals. If you use a Spectra I with an electrical connection other than that described in the adjacent table, then you have obtained further information on installation together with your order confirmation. 17 Commissioning, filling and emptying This chapter shows you how to operate your Spectra. In addition to the switching-on procedure, information is also provided about automatic processes whilst using for the first time and about further preparatory work. When heating up, the SPECTRA I automatically deaerates the BOILER SYSTEM. Fill with powder. The LED of the selectable products glow. The SPECTRA I is ready to use. Filling Spectra I ! WARNING There is the risk of eye injury, injury in general and destruction Do not insert any objects into the powder container. Never poke around with an object in the powder container. Open the POWDER CONTAINER. Fill with powder. Close the POWDER CONTAINER.
18 Emptying the powder container CAUTION Powder can fall out. Transport powder container vertically and closed. Press down fuse and push POWDER CONTAINER forward asfarasresistor(2cm). Lift off POWDER CONTAINER vertically and upwards. CAUTION Danger of injury from conveyor system of powder container. Clean powder container with care. CAUTION Coffee quality can be impaired. Dry the powder container thoroughly after cleaning. Do not allow any cleaning agent residue to remain in it. continue with Remove LID, empty POWDER CONTAINER, clean and dry. 24 Cleaning and rinsing Your customers expect optimum enjoyment, and you expect perfect quality. A speciality machine like the Spectra must be cleaned at least once a day in order to meet these expectations. Rinsing the Instant system! WARNING Danger of scalding Rinsing Please select Through hot water and hot steam. Do not touch the outlets, nor below them. Briefly press CLEAN twice. The OUTLET moves to the rinsing position. The INSTANT SYSTEM is rinsed. The OUTLET moves to the home position. The LED of the selectable products glow. Rinsing is complete. Page 23 Cleaning and rinsing
25 Cleaning the Instant system Page 24 Cleaning and rinsing! WARNING Health hazards and damage to the machine continue In the instant system, powder residue can result in clogging in the mixer and in mould formation. Clean the mixer once a week and also as required. Clean powder container every two months; with frequent use clean as required. Rinse the INSTANT SYSTEM if you haven t already done so. See page 23 Open up FRONT PANEL. All LED flash. NOTE Clean outlet system regularly to maintain the consistently high quality of the Spectra I.! WARNING Danger of scalding The outlet hose may contain residual hot water. Remove outlet hose with care. 03 Remove the OUTLET HOSE of the INSTANT SYSTEM. 04 Turn UNLOCKING LEVER of MIXER CHAMBER to the left. Remove MIXER CHAMBER. continue with continue Dismantle MIXER CHAMBER. Clean all parts, rinse out and dry thoroughly. Assemble the MIXER CHAMBER. Fit MIXER CHAMBER. Turn UNLOCKING LEVER of MIXER CHAMBER to the right. Fit OUTLET HOSE.
26 NOTE Repeat this procedure for every mixer chamber present. Close DOOR. Clean the DRIP GRID and the DRIP TRAYS. Clean COFFEE OUTLET as required. See page 26 Clean the SPECTRA I and addon units with a damp microfibre cloth. Do not use scouring agents. Page 25 Cleaning and rinsing

Switch SPECTRA I to standby-mode. Press ON/OFF. Unlock OUTLET SYSTEM on both sides and pull down. Press lock of FOAMER with thumb and index finger outwards. Remove FOAMER, clean both parts and dry. continue with Please select Insert the FOAMER with the nozzles downwards into the LOWER PART OF THE OUTLET and lock. Insert the OUTLET SYSTEM and lock. The OUTLET SYSTEM engages. Press ON/OFF. The LED of the selectable products glow. The SPECTRA I is ready to use.
28 Configuring the Spectra I Your Spectra can be programmed in a completely individual manner so that the Spectra is just as flexible as you are. We have kept programming simple so as to make your work easy. Try it. Operating panels Programming keypad Navigating in the menu Front panel lock Lid Insert the Adjust plus card in the card reader. Menu appears. You can move through the menu by pressing +/. Pressing CLEAN enables you to select an option, and pressing EXIT allows you to quit an option, without saving the selection. Remove all food residue from SPECTRA I and from add-on units. Prolonged decommissioning and storage! CAUTION Damage to the machine! Consult the FRANKE Service Team for professional storage. Note the storage conditions and have Spectra drained. Storage temperature range: +10 C to +35 C Air humidity: max. 80 % When recommissioning at a later date, it is mandatory to enlist the help of our service department. The Spectra must be serviced and installed. Disposal Disposing of consumables When disposing of consumables and refuse, observe current regulations governing disposal. Disposing of Spectra You can dispose of your Spectra directly via your retailer at no extra charge. We will do the rest for you. For reasons of environmental protection, we recommend that you do not dispose of the appliance yourself. Otherwise, correct functioning of Spectra is not possible.
