1 Avaya Solution & Interoperability Test Lab Configuring Voice Message Networking Between Avaya Modular Messaging, Avaya Intuity Audi, and Nortel CallPilot using Avaya Message Networking - Issue 1.0 Abstract These Application Notes describe how to configure voice message networking between Avaya Modular Messaging, Avaya Intuity Audi, and Nortel CallPilot using Avaya Message Networking. The Avaya Message Networking server enables the sending and forwarding of voice messages to different voic servers using different messaging protocols. 1 of 26

2 1. Introduction Avaya Message Networking is a message protocol converter that allows customers to forward messages from one voic server to another. Avaya Message Networking supports the following messaging protocols: Digital Networking o Digital Networking using TCP/IP to communicate with different voic server(s). Digital Networking supports systems such as INTUITY AUDIX Release 4.0 or later, Aria Digital, Serenade Digital, VPIM V2, and SMTP/MIME digital systems, and additional Avaya Message Networking servers in the network. AMIS Analog Networking Octel Analog Networking Figure 1 illustrates an interoperability message networking configuration that includes Avaya Message Networking, Avaya Modular Messaging, Avaya Intuity Audi and Nortel CallPilot. The table below lists the message networking protocols used by each voic server to communicate with Avaya Message Networking. Message Networking Protocols: Voic Server Message Networking Protocol Avaya Modular Messaging SMTP/MIME Avaya Intuity Audi Audi Digital Nortel CallPilot VPIM v2 In Figure 1, when a subscriber on Avaya Modular Messaging wants to send a voice message to a subscriber on Nortel CallPilot, Avaya Modular Messaging sends the message to the Avaya Message Networking server using SMTP/MIME. The Message Networking server stores the message and forwards the message to the CallPilot subscriber using VPIM. An eample of a VPIM address is 24141@lzmn1.mm.com, where is the subscriber mailbo and lzmn1.mm.com is the fully qualified domain name of the VPIM server. In the configuration of Figure 1, the Avaya Modular Messaging subscriber range is , the Avaya Intuity Audi subscriber range is and the Nortel CallPilot subscriber range is of 26

4 3. Configure Avaya Message Networking The following steps validate and configure Avaya Message Networking according to the configuration depicted in Figure 1. These Application Notes do not provide detail on how to administrate voice mail subscribers. Step 1. Log into the Avaya Message Networking server. Click on the Global Administration link. 2. In the Global Administration page, click on the Customer Options link. 3. Step 1. In the Avaya Message Networking server page, click on the Message Networking Administration link. 2. In the Message Networking Administration page, click on the Remote Machine Administration link. 3. In the Remote Machine Administration page, click on the Add a Remote Machine link. 4 of 26

5 4. In the Add a New Machine page, enter the hostname of the Avaya Modular Messaging Storage server in the New Machine Name field and click on the Net Step button. 5. In the Machine Type field, select Avaya Modular Messaging. 6. In the IP Address field, enter the IP address of the Avaya Modular Message Storage server. 7. Click on the Net Step button. 8. In the Mailbo ID Length field, enter the Avaya Modular Messaging subscriber etension length and click on the Net Step button. 5 of 26

Select Yes for the Voiced Names for Dynamic? field, enter the fully qualified domain name of the Avaya Modular Messaging server in the Domain Name and LDAP server fields, and enter a password in the LDAP Password field. 10. Click on the Net Step button. 11. In the Dial Plan Mapping page, enter the starting and ending subscriber range of Avaya Modular Messaging in the Start and End fields of the MAILBOX ID NUMBER RANGE. 12. Click on the Save button. 13. Click OK in the Parameters Saved! pop-up window. 14. Click on the Return to Main button Add Avaya Intuity Audi The following steps eplain how to add Avaya Intuity Audi to Avaya Message Networking. Step 1. In the Avaya Message Networking page, click on the Message Networking Administration link. 2. In the Message Networking Administration page, click on the Remote Machine Administration link. 3. In the Remote Machine Administration page, click on the Add a Remote Machine link. 6 of 26

7 4. In the Add a New Machine page, enter hostname of the Avaya Intuity Audi server in the New Machine Name field and click on the Net Step button. 5. In the Machine Type field, select INTUITY 4.0 or later. 6. Enter the IP address of the Avaya Intuity Audi server in the IP Address field. 7. Click on the Net Step button. 8. 8 10. In the Mailbo ID Length field, enter the Audi subscriber etension length. 11. Click on the Net Step button. 12. Select dynamic for the Subscriber Updates Type field, yes for the UPDATES In? and UPDATES Out? fields, and yes for the Voiced Names for Dynamic? field. 13. Click on the Net Step button. 14. In the Dial Plan Mapping page, enter the starting and ending subscriber range of Avaya Intuity Audi in the Start and End fields of the MAILBOX ID NUMBER RANGE. 15. Click on the Save button. 16. Click OK in the Parameters Saved! pop-up window. 17. Click on the Return to Main button Add Nortel CallPilot The following steps eplain how to add Nortel CallPilot to Avaya Message Networking. Step 1. In the Avaya Message Networking page, click on the Message Networking Administration link. 2. In the Message Networking Administration page, click on the Remote Machine Administration link. 3. In the Remote Machine Administration page, click on the Add a Remote Machine link. 4. In the Add a New Machine page, enter the hostname of the Nortel CallPilot in the New 8 of 26

9 Machine Name field and click on the Net Step button. 5. In the Machine Type field, select VPIM. 6. Enter the IP address of the Nortel CallPilot in the IP Address field. 7. Click Net Step button. 8. Enter the etension length sent from the Nortel CallPilot to the Avaya Message Networking server in the Mailbo ID Length field. In this sample configuration, the Nortel CallPilot inserts an etra digit to the five-digit subscriber etension length. 9. Click on the Net Step button. 10. Select dynamic for the Subscriber Updates Type field, yes for the Voiced Names for Dynamic? field, yes for the Use DNS? field, and enter the fully qualified domain name of the Nortel CallPilot server in the Domain Name field. 11. 10 12. In the Dial Plan Mapping page, enter the starting and ending subscriber range of Nortel CallPilot in the Start and End fields of the MAILBOX ID NUMBER RANGE. In the sample configuration, the Nortel CallPilot inserts a prefi number 7 to the Caller ID number. The prefi number 7 is the system ID number of the Nortel CallPilot VPIM server. Therefore, the MAILBOX ID NUMBER RANGE is to The 6-digit subscriber length of Nortel CallPilot needs to be converted to a 5-digit length. To remove the first two digits 75 and replace it with one digit 5, enter 75 in the Map From field, and 5 in the Map To field in the NETWORK ADDRESS DIAL PLAN MAPPING area. 13. Click on the Save button. 14. Click OK in the Parameters Saved! pop-up window. 15. Click on the Return to Main button. 4. Configure Avaya Modular Messaging The following steps validate and configure Avaya Modular Messaging according to the configuration depicted in Figure 1. Step 1. Log into the Avaya Modular Messaging Storage server. Click on the Global Administration link. 2. In the Global Administration link, click on the Networked Machine Management link. 3. In the Networked Machine Management page, click on the Add a New Networked Machine button. 4. Enter the hostname of the Avaya Message Networking server in the Machine Name field. Enter password in the Password and Confirm Password fields. The password must match with the password created in Section 3.1 Step 9. Enter the IP Address of the Avaya Message Networking server. Enter 5 for Mailbo Number Length. Select yes for the Updates In and Updates Out fields. In the MAILBOX NUMBER RANGES area, enter the starting and ending mailbo numbers in the Starting Mailbo Number and Ending Mailbo Number fields for the Avaya Intuity Audi and the Nortel CallPilot. 10 of 26

12 5. Configure Avaya Intuity Audi The following steps validate and configure Avaya Intuity Audi according to the configuration depicted in Figure 1. Step 1. Login into the Avaya Intuity Audi server. From the Intuity Audi main menu, select Feature Options. Verify that TCPIP digital ports are available in the Current column. 2. From the Intuity Audi main menu, select TCP/IP Administration. 3. Select Network Addressing. Verify that an IP address is assigned to the Intuity Audi server. Network Addressing In Ne TCP/IP Interface: eee_0 Netw Host Name: intuity Soft IP Address: Swit Subnet Mask: Syst Default Gateway Address: TCP/ 4. Return to the Intuity Audi main menu. Select Networking Administration. 12 of 26

13 5. Select Local Machine Administration. Return to the Networking Administration menu and select Remote Machine Administration. 7. Select Digital Network Machine Administration from the Remote Machine Administration menu. 8. In the Digital Network Machine Administration screen, enter the hostname of the Avaya Message Networking server in the Machine Name field. Enter TCP/IP in the Connection Type field. Enter the IP address of the Avaya Message Networking server in the Dialing Str: field. Enter a password in the Password field; the password must match the password entered in Section 3.2 Step 8. Save the configuration and return to the main menu. 10. Select Audi Administration from the main menu. 11. Enter change machine intuity from the Audi command prompt. 13 of 26

End Et. Warnings 1: : : 4: 5: 6: 16. Save configuration. 6. Configure Nortel CallPilot The following steps validate and configure Nortel CallPilot according to the configuration depicted in Figure 1. Step 1. Log into the Nortel CallPilot Manager. 14 of 26

15 2. Click on the System menu and select Server Settings. 3. Verify that the Networking feature is listed in the Feature/Service Installed column. 15 of 26

16 4. Click on Messaging link and select Message Network Configuration. 5. Epand desktop and click on message. Click on the Show Details button. 6. In the Message Properties page, scroll down to the VPIM section and click Add. 7. Enter 7 in the Prefi and 0 for Overlap. Each Nortel CallPilot in a network requires a prefi when using VPIM. This prefi is tagged in front of the Nortel CallPilot subscriber number when sending messages to Avaya Message Networking. 8. Click OK when complete. 16 of 26

17 9. Click Save when complete. 10. Click on Messaging link and select Message Delivery Configuration. 17 of 26

18 11. In the Message Delivery Configuration page, scroll down to the SMTP/VPIM section. Check the Incoming and Outgoing SMTP/VPIM boes. Enter the VPIM Compose Prefi. This prefi number is the number that the Nortel CallPilot subscriber must dial before dialing the etension number of the remote subscriber. This prefi number is not sent to Avaya Message Networking. 12. Scroll down to the VPIM Shortcuts and click Add. 13. Enter the first two digits of the Avaya Modular Messaging subscriber range in the Prefi field, and the fully qualified domain name of the Avaya Message Networking server in the Domain field. Click Save. 14. Repeat step 13 for the Avaya Intuity Audi subscriber range. The prefi for the Intuity Audi is 30 in the sample configuration. 18 of 26

19 15. Click Save. 7. Update Subscriber Data The following steps eplain how to update subscriber data on Avaya Message Networking, Avaya Modular Messaging and Avaya Intuity Audi Update Subscriber Data on Avaya Message Networking The following steps update subscriber data on Avaya Message Networking. Step 1. Log into theavaya Message Networking server. Click on the Message Networking Administration link. 2. In the Message Networking Administration page, click on the Remote Machine Administration link. 3. In the Remote Machine Administration, click on the Demand Remote Updates link. 4. In the Demand Remote Updates page, select the hostname of the Avaya Intuity Audi. Avaya Message Networking automatically requests the update. Refresh the browser until the Status of Last Update field indicates Completed. 19 of 26

20 5. In the Demand Remote Updates page, select the hostname of the Avaya Modular Messaging Storage server. Click on Update. 6. Click on the Return to Main button. 7. Click on the Message Networking Administration link. 8. In the Message Networking Administration page, click on the Subscriber Administration link. 9. In the Subscriber Administration page, click on the Subscriber Lists link. 10. In the Subscriber Lists page, select By Network Address from the dropdown menu of the Select Subscriber Lists Method field. 20 of 26

21 11. Click on the Display button. 12. Verify that the subscribers of Avaya Modular Messaging and Avaya Intuity Audi are listed. Nortel CallPilot subscriber accounts are created dynamically Update Subscriber Data on Avaya Modular Messaging The following steps update subscriber data on Avaya Modular Messaging. Step 1. Log into the Avaya Modular Messaging Storage server. Click on the Global Administration link. 2. Click on the Networked Machine Management link. 21 of 26

22 3. Select the Avaya Message Networking machine and click on the Request Subscriber Update link. 4. Verify that the Status of Last Update field indicates completed. 5. Click on the Return to Main button. 6. Click on the Global Administration link. 7. Click on the Subscriber Management link. 22 of 26

23 8. Click on the Manage button of Remote Subscribers. 9. Verify that Avaya Modular Messaging receives subscriber data from Avaya Message Networking. 23 of 26

24 7.3. Update Subscriber Data on Avaya Intuity Audi The following steps verify subscriber data on Avaya Intuity Audi. The subscriber data is updated dynamically between the Avaya Intuity Audi and Avaya Message Networking servers. Step 1. Log into the Avaya Intuity Audi server. Select Audi Administration from the main menu. 2. Enter list remote-etensions lzmn1 from the command prompt; lzmn1 is the hostname of the Avaya Message Networking server. 3. Verification Steps Verification of message networking requires a subscriber account created for each voic server. Each subscriber must log into his/her respective voic server and create a personal greeting and personal voice name. Create a new message from Avaya Modular Messaging and send the message to subscribers on Avaya Intuity Audi and Nortel CallPilot. Verify that the Message Waiting Indicator (MWI) lights of the receiving subscriber stations turn on. Access the receiving subscriber accounts and verify the messages and voice name of the sender. Create a new message from Avaya Intuity Audi and send the message to subscribers on Avaya Modular Messaging and Nortel CallPilot. Verify that the MWI lights of the receiving subscriber stations turn on. Access the receiving subscriber accounts and verify the messages and voice name of the sender. Create a new message from Nortel CallPilot and send the message to subscribers on Avaya Intuity Audi and Avaya Modular Messaging. Verify that the MWI lights of the receiving subscriber stations turn on. Access the receiving subscriber accounts and verify the messages and voice name of the sender. 24 of 26

25 9. Conclusion These Application Notes described how to configure voice message networking between Avaya Modular Messaging, Avaya Intuity Audi and Nortel CallPilot using Avaya Message Networking. The Avaya Message Networking server successfully enables the delivery of messages and subscriber information across the three different voic systems using different messaging protocols. 25 of 26
