2 Dress Code NEW CANEY HIGH SCHOOL The District s dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, instill discipline, prevent disruption, avoid safety hazards, and teach respect for authority. Dress regulations should discourage the extremes and the fads that may lead to disruptions of the learning environment. Students shall be dressed and groomed in a manner that is clean and neat and that will not be a health hazard or safety hazard to themselves or others. The District prohibits any clothing or grooming that in the Principal's judgment may cause disruption of or interfere with normal school operations. Principal's determination as to the appropriateness of all dress shall be final according to District policy. The principal or designee, in conjunction with the sponsor, coach, or other person in charge of an extracurricular activity, may regulate the dress and grooming of students who participate in the activity, if the principal believes that the student s dress or grooming: (1) Creates a hazard to the student s safety or to the safety of others; or, (2) Will prevent, interfere with, or adversely affect purpose, direction, or effort required for the activity to achieve its goals. If the student s dress or grooming is objectionable under these provisions, the principal or designee shall request that the student make appropriate corrections. If the student refuses, the principal shall notify the student s parent or legal guardian and request that a person make the necessary correction. If both the student and parent or legal guardian refuses, the principal or designee shall take appropriate disciplinary action. All students shall be accorded due process safeguards before any disciplinary action may be taken. Absence from class due to inappropriate dress or grooming will be counted as unexcused. Repeated violations may cause additional appropriate disciplinary action to be taken. Random dress code sweeps may be conducted throughout the school day. Students out of dress code will be subject to disciplinary measures. Any form of dress, jewelry, hair, or hair color, that attracts undue attention, disrupts school, or distracts from the learning process is not acceptable. To clarify for the high school student dress code policy, the following examples of dress are considered inappropriate: 1. Clothing, jewelry, badges, patches, tattoos, or designs on clothing must not reflect or suggest in any manner drugs, alcohol, tobacco, sex, vulgar language, gang affiliations, violence, death, satanic ideology, or other items that could be viewed as offensive to others. 2. Hairstyles must be neat, clean, and well groomed. Hair coloring that is not a natural color and extreme hairstyles (i.e. Mohawks, etc.) are prohibited.
3 3. No hats, bandannas, scarves, head coverings, curlers, sweatbands, or caps shall be worn in the building. Hats worn in the building will be taken up. Repeated offenses will incur additional disciplinary action. 4. Mustaches or beards are allowed; however, students must maintain good grooming habits. 5. Skirts and shorts must be of appropriate length, they must extend to the length of a school ID or 3 inches above the top of the knee cap. Pants, skirts, and shorts must be properly hemmed and must fit at the waist. Undergarments should not be seen. 6. No Holes will be allowed above the fingertips 7. Excessively over-sized or excessively tight garments shall not be worn. 8. Tank tops shall only be worn in conjunction with a sleeved garment. The midriff must not be exposed when a student goes through normal activities of a school day (bending, stretching, reaching, etc.). 9. Revealing garments are not permitted without the wearing of an appropriate vest or shirt/blouse. Netting or any types of see through garments are prohibited. Underwear should never be visible. 10. Inappropriate clothing includes: casual beach-like attire, including backless blouses, off-theshoulder blouses/dresses, halter-type tank tops, tank tops, tops with spaghetti straps, pajama pants, muscle shirts, or shirts with sleeves that have been cut off. Blouses/shirts must be below the waistband when arms are extended overhead. 11. Proper undergarments must be worn and not be seen through or over clothing. 12. Full-length trench coats may not be worn. 13. Chains of any length or size (including wallet chains) are not allowed. 14. Only appropriate footwear intended for outside use shall be worn. Shower shoes or house shoes are not appropriate. Shoes with wheels are prohibited. 15. Gang-related apparel is prohibited in school or at any school-related function. 16. Facial piercing will be limited to the student s ears only. 17. Gauge or Plug earrings are not allowed.
4 Electronic Device/Cell Phones Students may use electronic devices before/after school, between classes, and during lunch, but not during scheduled instructional time. If a student uses an electronic device during class time and is referred the following will occur: 1 st offense= Thursday school 2 nd offense= one day ISS 3 rd offense= Confiscation, parent pick up, two days ISS Next offense (all after) - Confiscation, additional days of ISS, fee of 15.00
5 ID Policy NEW CANEY HIGH SCHOOL Students are required to wear ID s at all times while on campus. Student ID s must be worn on a lanyard around the student s neck at all times during the school day. IDs are worn for safety purposes and all students are expected to have ID s visible. If an ID is forgotten or lost, a temporary ID may be purchased for $1.00 in any assistant principal s office. A replacement ID may be purchased for $3.00 in the library. An after school detention will be assigned if a student fails to pay their temporary ID fine. Random ID sweeps may be conducted throughout the school day. Students without an ID will be subject to disciplinary measures and subject to 1.00 fee for temp. ID or 3.00 fee for replacement ID.
6 Student Parking Regulations New Caney High School is committed to maintaining a policy of safety and respect regarding transportation and parking. Students will be expected to abide by all state, county, city, school traffic laws, and regulations at all times. The following guidelines have been established to promote this policy. Parking on campus is a privilege that can be denied or revoked by the Administration. Students who fail to adhere to the rules and regulations below may have their parking privileges suspended or revoked. 1. Every student must exercise extreme caution when entering and leaving the parking area and school grounds. Excessive speeding or reckless driving is prohibited. Security concerns make it necessary that upon arrival in the parking lot, students leave their vehicles and immediately enter the building. Under no circumstances may a student go to his/her car during the school day without a written pass or verbal agreement from an administrator. Students should not use their automobiles as lockers. Students found in the parking lot during the school day without authorization are subject to disciplinary action. 2. Vehicles must be parked only in designated parking lots. 3. The use and possession of tobacco products is prohibited in the parking lots. 4. Security personnel will patrol the parking lot every day. Students are expected to identify themselves when asked and to cooperate with security at all times. 5. Parking stickers must be permanently affixed to inside bottom passenger side corner of the front windshield. (Not taped to window or sitting on the dashboard) 6. Pedestrians and school buses will always be given the right of way. 7. Drivers are not to allow other students to ride on the hood, bumpers, or any other exterior part of their car. 8. Students should not leave without physically signing out through the attendance office. 9. Students are not permitted to transport other students during the school day without proper authorization. Failure to comply with the rules and regulations above, including all posted signs and notices pertaining to parking can result in: Suspension of driving privileges for a period of time to be determined by the Principal or Assistant Principal Loss of driving privileges School disciplinary action Vehicle towed Accident on Campus In the event of an accident on campus, please adhere to the following procedures: Exchange name, phone number, and insurance information Please notify the administration. If necessary, the school may call the police and assist in the investigation. Use of a Second Car If you need to drive a different vehicle for a short period of time, you will need a valid Driver's License and your sticker number to obtain a temporary permit. Temporary permits are issued only to students who already have a permanent sticker. Replacement permits - If your car is wrecked or sold, please remove the old sticker if possible and return when purchasing another sticker. Duplicates are $5.00. If a replacement sticker is needed and the student does not have the old sticker, then, a note from the parent will be needed.
7 Tardy Policy If in the hallway when the bell rings report to your class immediately. Tardies are entered by your teachers and are cumulative for all classes. Principals will call you down and assign discipline. Tardies will start over each 9 weeks. Tardy Policy Consequences 1 st / 2 nd tardy- Warning 3 rd / 4 th tardy- Thursday Detention 5 th / 6 th tardy- ISS 7 th + additional tardies Suspension Every tardy after this point will result in suspension and a parent meeting.
8 Chromebook Chromebook Case and/or charger Students are responsible for the general care of the Chromebook, Chromebook Case and Charger that they have been issued by the school. Family members and friends should not have use of the Chromebook. Chromebooks that are broken or fail to work properly must be taken to the Technology room for an evaluation of the equipment. Never try to repair the Chromebook yourself or have someone outside the district work on it, as this could void the warranty and cause you to incur additional charges.take your Chromebook to the Technology room as soon as possible if needed for repairs. General Care/Use The Chromebook, Chromebook Case and Charger are school property and all users will follow the policy in the Student Code of Conduct in the section labeled Student Responsible Use Guidelines for Technology. The Chromebook Case that is issued to students must remain on the Chromebook at all times. Do not loan devices to other students. Do not borrow a device from another student. Do NOT share passwords or usernames. Cords and cables must be inserted carefully into the Chromebook to prevent damage. Chromebooks and Chromebook Cases must remain free of any writing, drawing, stickers, or labels.spot checks for compliance may be done by administrators or teachers at any time. No food or drink is allowed next to your Chromebook. Vents must not be covered. Students should never carry their Chromebooks while the screen is open. Chromebooks must have a New Caney ISD inventory tag on them at all times and this tag must not be removed or altered in any way. If the inventory tag is removed, disciplinary action may result. Chromebooks must never be left in an unlocked locker, unlocked car or any unsupervised area. Students are responsible for bringing completely charged Chromebooks to school each day. An uncharged Chromebook is a violation of this handbook. Chromebooks are very sensitive to extreme heat and extreme cold therefore leaving devices in cars, direct sunlight, etc. that may expose them to these conditions is potentially harmful to the device and should be avoided. Do not stack any books, heavy materials, etc. on top of the Chromebook as it could cause the device to break.
9 Chromebooks should not be placed in backpacks with heavy books. Unauthorized Access and Damaging Another Student s Chromebook Access to another person s account, device or computer without their consent or knowledge is considered hacking and is unacceptable. If a student accidentally or purposefully damages or breaks another student s Chromebook, Chromebook Case and/or charger the student who caused the damage is responsible for all expenses related to repairs or replacement of the Chromebook, Fees Students in grades 6 12 are NOT required to pay an annual user fee. However, students will be required to pay for accidental and deliberate damages to Chromebooks according to the rates outlined below: Fees Assessed for Damages 1st Occurrence Accidental Damage $ st Occurrence Deliberate/Negligent Damage Actual cost of repair 2nd Occurrence Actual cost of repair 3rd and All Additional Occurrences Actual cost of repair Chromebooks damaged when not in their case are considered to have Deliberate/Negligent Damage.
