Bursaries f Student/Undergraduate Nurses and Registered Nurse Re- Entry Education Programs. 2. Bursaries f Registered Nurses. Please note that there are general qualification bursaries in each categy and then there are others you may be eligible f that have specific requirements to qualify. Befe ticking the box related to any of those specific requirement bursaries on your application, please do not apply unless you qualify. You will find the criteria noted later in this document. ELIGIBILITY 1. Applicants must be residents of British Columbia. 2. Applicants must be Canadian citizens permanent residents. 3. Applicants must meet the specific eligibility requirements listed under each categy. 4. Applicants must have enrolled f the Fall Term APPLICATION DEADLINE Applications must be completed on- line no later than midnight, September 15, APPLICATION FEE Your application fee is $25 and can be paid two ways.paypal (on- line) and Cheques (by mail). Cheques should be made payable to RNFBC and postmarked no later than September 15, 2016 to RNFBC, Attention: Bursary Committee. If the payment cheque is being made by another person, please ensure your full name is noted on the cheque. APPLICATION FORM AND DOCUMENTATION To be considered f a bursary you must: 1. Complete either the 2016 On- Line Application Fm f Students/Undergraduates the 2016 On- Line Application Fm f RNs. 2. Provide proof of BC residency, even if you are studying outside BC. A scanned copy of your driver s license, BCID, a scanned copy of a utility bill in your name satisfies this requirement. This must be uploaded when completing the on- line application fm. (Only PDF, DOC, JPG and GIF fmats accepted f upload); 3. Provide Proof of Current Enrolment f the Fall 2016 term as follows: a. If you are a continuing student, scan a copy of a confirmation of your enrolment and upload it when completing the on- line application fm. (Only PDF, DOC, JPG and GIF fmats accepted f upload); b. If you starting your program this fall, scan a copy of your Letter of Acceptance and upload it when completing the on- line application fm. (Only PDF, DOC, JPG and GIF fmats accepted f upload);

2 4. When completing the on- line application fm, upload proof of any additional requirements listed under specific bursaries. (Only PDF, DOC, JPG and GIF fmats accepted f upload); 5. Include statements of your present and future career goals and how being awarded a bursary might affect them in the My Nursing and/ Education Goals on the on- line application fm. NB: Many applications in the past were rejected because the application fm was not properly completed, the documentation was incomplete illegible, the application fee was missing could not be processed. SELECTION OF WINNERS Winners are selected randomly from the pool of eligible applicants f each bursary. Bursary winners will be selected in October and notified by at that time, and receive their cheques/award letters by mid- December. Tax receipts are issued the following February. We are sry but only the winners are contacted. Your name and the name of your school of nursing will be announced in RNFBC s newsletter and on its website. WHAT IS EXPECTED OF YOU IF YOU ARE AWARDED A BURSARY? One thing and one thing only.rnfbc bursaries have been set up to help you with your nursing education and are a gift and as with all gifts, you say thank you. It is our expectation that upon receiving your bursary that you will take time to write a thank you to your don letting them know just how their assistance will make a difference f you. All your don s infmation will be included in your award letter. DROPPING OUT OF YOUR PROGRAM The bursary is awarded to applicants enrolled in their program at the start of the Fall term. If you drop out of the program without completing the term, you are no longer eligible to receive a bursary and you should advise RNFBC in writing. If you receive a bursary cheque after you have dropped out of your program, it is expected that the bursary monies will be returned to RNFBC. PROTECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION RNFBC has a privacy policy which protects the privacy of bursary applicants. A full copy of RNFBC s privacy policy may be found at WHY DO I HAVE TO GIVE YOUR SOCIAL INSURANCE NUMBER? To give T4As required by Income Tax Canada. Our website and recds are secure. WHAT DO I NEED TO SHOW YOU ARE A DIRECT DESCENDANT? Birth certificate and parent's nursing graduation diploma and marriage certificate letter of explanation. WHAT DO I HAVE TO SUBMIT AS PROOF OF ENROLLMENT? Print out and scan a copy of your current transcript. It will have to have your name student number and current address on it as well as the program of study. MY SEMESTERS ARE LABELED AS BLOCKS OR LEVELS, HOW DOES THIS CORRESPOND WITH THE BURSARY ELIGIBILITY DATES? Students are required to confirm using the letter from the admissions office official transcript that they are currently attending classes during the bursary year. RNFBC cannot confirm that a specific level

3 block is eligible as each institution uses different labels f each of their semesters. As long as you are in school from September 2016 until March 2017 you fall within the bursary year. BURSARIES FOR STUDENTS IN UNDERGRADUATE NURSING PROGRAMS REGISTERED NURSE RE- ENTRY EDUCATION PROGRAMS If you are enrolled in a program preparaty to nurse registration, you are automatically eligible f the following bursaries: Clarice Lee, Kathleen Ure & Wesley Bell Memial Bursary Frederick & Elizabeth Willett Bursary Kenneth Clark & Ellen Woolfitt Bursary RNABC Nursing Education Bursary Sinn- Archibald Memial Bursary Stoddard Estate Fund Bursary The American Woman s Club of Vancouver Yvonne Andrews Memial Bursary The following bursaries are available f students in undergraduate registered nursing programs registered nurse re- entry education programs but have specific eligibility requirements. Please submit on- line additional documentation as noted below to prove eligibility: Dothy Kerigan Bursary Proof of enrollment in baccalaureate education program. Founders Bursary Basic RN student entering final year in their baccalaureate education program. Evidence of being an active volunteer participant in community and/ professional activities. Mabel and Henry Dee Family Memial Bursary Women enrolled in a Bachel's Degree of Nursing (BSC) in University. An expressed interest in improving the emotional and physical health of patients and relatives. Mary Sutherland Bursary A basic student must submit a copy of their current Registered Psychiatric Nurse license. An RN student must submit proof of wk in the mental health field. Royal Jubilee Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae Bursary Proof of graduation from Royal Jubilee Hospital SON (e.g., copy of your diploma). Proof that you are the child of a graduate of Royal Jubilee Hospital SON (e.g., copy of your parent s diploma a letter of explanation). St. Joseph s School of Nursing (Victia, BC) Alumnae Bursary in Hon of the Sisters of St. Ann Proof of graduation from St. Joseph s SON (e.g., copy of your diploma). Proof that you are the child of a graduate of St. Joseph s SON (e.g., copy of parent s diploma letter of explanation.

4 South Fraser Chapter Bursary Proof of residency in South Fraser region Surrey, White Rock, Delta, Langley. The proof of BC residency which is required f all applications will satisfy this requirement. Val Dyck Memial Bursary Proof of residency f five years longer in Nth Cariboo region (postal codes V2J V0K). Vancouver General Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae Bursary Proof of graduation from Vancouver General Hospital SON (e.g., copy of your diploma). Proof that you are the child grandchild of a graduate of the Vancouver General Hospital SON (e.g., copy of your parent s grandparent s diploma letter of explanation). BURSARIES FOR REGISTERED NURSES If you are a registered nurse enrolled in post- basic nursing education programs you are automatically eligible f the following bursaries: Beverly Douglas Memial Bursary Carol Winter Memial Bursary Elgin & Vivian Lockridge Bursary Esther Paulson & Sylvia Code Bursary Frederick & Elizabeth Willett Bursary Helen Margaret King Memial Bursary RNABC Nursing Education Bursary Sylvia J. Holmes Bursary The American Woman s Club of Vancouver Vivian Grantham Memial Bursary In addition to your completed application fm, proof of BC residency and your statement of career goals, your application must include: Confirmation of enrolment in a post- basic baccalaureate masters nursing program, a doctal program in nursing related field, written confirmation that your clinical specialty program leads to an advanced diploma/certificate. Proof of either CRNBC CRPNBC Registration (download proof of current registration from the CRNBC CRPNBC website). The following bursaries are available f registered nurses but have specific eligibility requirements. Please submit on- line additional documentation as noted below to prove eligibility: BC Health Education Foundation Legacy Bursary f Clinical Education Proof that you pursuing graduate programs in Clinical Nursing to nurses who are pursuing additional clinical education through courses programs at a recognized post- secondary institution other education facility. BC Occupational Health Nurses Professional Practice Group Bursary

5 Letter of acceptance f a degree post- basic diploma/certificate program in Occupational Health Nursing.. Proof of membership in the Occupational Nurses Specialty Association of British Columbia; Proof of registration to write the CNA National Certification Examination in Occupational Health Nurses. Bernadet Ratsoy Memial Bursary Confirmation of enrolment in a program of study leading to a master s doctal degree with emphasis on Health Care Management emphasis in Obstetrics Pediatrics. Challenge Bursary Proof of CRNBC registration. Letter of acceptance f a graduate program in a related discipline complementary to nursing. Children and Women s Health Centre of BC Bursary Confirmation of enrolment in a program of study that includes one of the following: Paediatrics Paediatric Rehabilitation Women s Health Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dothy Kerigan Bursary Proof of enrollment in baccalaureate education program. Founders Bursary Basic RN student entering final year in their baccalaureate education program. Evidence of being an active volunteer participant in community and/ professional activities. Gdon J. Murphy Memial Bursary Written statement indicating intention to practice in cancer palliative care nursing. Mabel and Henry Dee Family Memial Bursary Women enrolled in a Bachel's Degree of Nursing (BSC) in University. An expressed interest in improving the emotional and physical health of patients and relatives. Mary Sutherland Bursary A basic student must submit a copy of their current Registered Psychiatric Nurse license. An RN student must submit proof of wk in the mental health field. Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception Bursary (with suppt from Mount Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation) and Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception Bursaries Proof of employment by Providence Health Care. Statement suppting the mission, vision and values of Providence Health Care. Statement that you have examined the proposed course of study and believe that the course is consistent with the Canadian Catholic Bishop s Ethical Guidelines. Monica Green Bursary Proof of employment in a provincial health unit in a public health role.

6 Statement of desire to pursue a sht long- term course relative to your field of interest. Documentation that you are active interested in professional and/ community ganizations. e.g., CRNBC, PHABC, CPHA, Community Health Nurses Interest Group. Research Bursary Confirmation from supervis that the proposed research activity has been approved f academic purposes with expected date of completion. Royal Jubilee Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae Bursary Proof of graduation from Royal Jubilee Hospital SON (e.g., a copy of your diploma); Proof that you are the child grandchild of a graduate of the Royal Jubilee Hospital SON (e.g., a copy of your parent s diploma letter of explanation). St. Joseph s School of Nursing Alumnae Bursary in Hon of the Sisters of St. Ann Proof of graduation from St. Joseph s SON (e.g., a copy of your diploma); Proof that you are the child grandchild of a graduate of St. Joseph s SON (e.g., a copy of your parent s diploma letter of explanation); If there are no applicants meeting the above requirements, proof that you are a permanent resident of Vancouver Island with preference given to residents of Victia. South Fraser Bursary Proof of permanent residency in South Fraser region Surrey, White Rock, Delta, Langley. The proof of BC residency which is required f all applications will nmally satisfy this requirement. Val Dyck Memial Bursary Proof of permanent residence of 5 years longer in the following postal code areas, V2J and VOK. Vancouver General Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae Bursary Proof of graduation from Vancouver General Hospital SON (e.g., a copy of your diploma); Proof that you are the child grandchild of a graduate of Vancouver General Hospital School of Nursing (e.g., a copy of your parent s diploma letter of explanation). Xi Eta Chapter Bursary, Sigma Theta Tau International Proof that you are a Registered Nurse enrolled in a post graduate accredited nursing program in Canada the US at the masters doctal level. Proof you are an active member of Sigma Theta Tau International with preference given as follows: Xi Eta Chapter active member if no suitable candidate then; STTI Region One, Canadian Chapter active member if no suitable candidate then; STTI Region One, US Chapter active member if no suitable candidate then bursary not awarded.
