1 THE COMMUNITY PORTAL FOR YOUR OPEN SOURCE CLOUD TECHNOLOGIES The Open Cloud Directory offers centralized information on open cloud technologies for the fastgrowing community of cloud computing developers, architects, brokers, integrators, and users. Browse the Open Cloud Directory for technical and legal information on innovative open source cloud programs and their documentation, reviews of open source cloud components, and the latest results from international collaborative open cloud projects. The Open Cloud Directory is a service provided by the OCEAN Project and partners Fraunhofer FOKUS, Engineering Group, IPA and OW2.

2 The Open Cloud Directory introduces cloud computing projects results that are published under an open source license. It also positions them in its cloud computing reference architecture according to different categories: The following pages introduce a selection of 20 projects that are described in the Open Cloud Directory. Artist ARTIST [advanced software-based service provisioning and migration of legacy Software] is a tool-supported method for cloudifying applications. Using model-driven techniques, Artist helps companies in analyzing how diffi cult and costly is migrating their applications to the cloud, in assisting them in modernizing their software and fi nally certifying they are cloud compliant. The goal is to enable domain experts to develop decentralized ultra-large scale (ULS) solutions composed of heterogeneous services that are adaptable and QoS (Quality-of-) aware. More: ClouT The ClouT project [Cloud of Things for empowering the citizen clout in smart cities] brings to the stage of smart cities two sets of ICT technologies: IoT and Cloud Computing. ClouT sees a group of European and Japanese organizations coming together to cooperate in building tools and applications for cities and their citizens. More: Scalability for Cloud Computing The goal of CloudScale is to aid service providers in analysing, predicting and resolving scalability issues, i.e. support scalable service engineering. The project extends existing and develops new solutions that support the handling of scalability problems of software-based services. More: Cloud-TM Cloud-TM aims at defi ning a novel programming paradigm to facilitate the development and administration of cloud applications. It will develop a Self-Optimizing Distributed Transactional Memory middleware that will spare programmers from the burden of coding for distribution, persistence and fault-tolerance. More: CloudSME The CloudSME - Cloud-based Simulation platform for Manufacturing and Engineering - project develops a cloud-based, one-stop-shop solution providing a scalable platform for small or larger scale simulations, and enable the wider take-up of simulation technologies in manufacturing and engineering SMEs. More: Open Computing Infrastructures for Elastic s A major shift is occurring where the infrastructures are outsourced to external operators such as Data Centers and Clouds. To allow open access to shared computing resources, the vision of the CONTRAIL project is that any organization should be able to be both a Cloud provider, and a Cloud customer in periods of peak activity. The CloudSpaces project advocates for a paradigm shift from application-centric to person-centric models where users will retake the control of their information. CloudSpaces aims to create the next generation of open and secure Personal Clouds. More: CompatibleOne CompatibleOne is an open source project which provides a model, CORDS (CompatibleOne Resource Description System), and a platform, ACCORDS (Advanced Capabilities for CORDS), for the description and federation of different clouds comprising resources provisioned by heterogeneous cloud service providers. More: ORBIT Failures of critical systems result in disconnected services and can quickly cost millions. What would be approaches to reduce this risk? The goal of the ORBIT project is to develop innovative solutions to minimize the effects of unavailable servers. More: ORBIT Innovation for Business Continuity The INspired GEOdata CLOUD s The INspired GEOdata CLOUD s (InGeoCLOUDS) project aims at demonstrating the feasibility of employing a cloud-based infrastructure coupled with the necessary services to provide seamless access to geospatial public sector information, especially targeting the geological, geophysical and other geoscientifi c information. More: Model-based Cloud Platform Upperware PaaSage delivers an open source integrated platform to support both design and deployment of Cloud applications, together with an accompanying methodology that allows model-based development, confi guration, optimisation, and deployment of existing and new applications independently of the existing underlying Cloud infrastructures. More: PAA AGE MOdel-Driven Approach for design and execution MODAClouds project is aimed at providing methods, a decision support system, an open source Integrated Development Environment (IDE) and runtime environment for high-level design, performance assessment, semiautomatic code generation, and deployment of applications on multi-clouds with guaranteed Quality of (QoS). More: SeaClouds SeaClouds performs a seamless adaptive multi-cloud management of servicebased applications by developing Cloud Orchestrators and a set of tools to manage complex applications. This allows organizations to embrace Cloud solutions and, at the same time, avoid risks of unreliability and lock-in. More: SyncFree OpenCloudware The project builds an open software engineering platform, for the collaborative development of distributed applications to be deployed on multiple Cloud infrastructures. As the SyncFree industrial partners already have large user bases and feel the need for increased scalability in their applications, the project will include an extreme-scale crowd-sourced experiment, pushing the scalability needs of real world applications.
