1 SEPTEMBER 2015 Volume 9, Issue 9 EMPLOYEES OF THE MONTH MANSFIELD OFFICE Adam Sweeney has been selected for Employee of the Month for the Mansfield office. Adam has been on assignment for nearly a year. He came to Staffing Partners hoping to get into the company where he is currently working and has done a fantastic job. He has a great attitude, attendance and work ethic. Adam loves the work environment and thinks his supervisor and co-workers are great people. Adam was born and raised in Mansfield. When he is not working, he plays in a metal band in Columbus called Arise the Titan. Adam has 2 brothers, one who works with him and one who is in school. He enjoys gardening, billiards, and target shooting. Adam refers his friends to Staffing Partners because of our friendly and fun office staff. Thanks, Adam, for the referrals and the great job you are doing! WOOSTER OFFICE Congratulations to Ken Brodman for being chosen as Employee of the Month. Ken always has a great attitude and is always willing to learn new things. He has been on his current assignment for 7 months and finds his co-workers to be very interesting. Ken has a 2 year old son, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. He moved to Wooster in December to be closer to his family. In his spare time he enjoys reading, writing, video games, cooking and cracking jokes. He is quirky, friendly and loves to make people laugh! Ken was referred to Staffing Partners by a friend and we are so glad he was! Thanks, Ken, for the great job you are doing! MARION OFFICE A strong Thank You goes out to our September Employee of the Month: Mark Jones. Mark is a dedicated, driven associate who pushes himself until the job is done right. He is always ready to learn and has a strong will to succeed. He enjoys working at his facility because the atmosphere is professional, yet fun, and he is able to give back to the community. In his free time, Mark enjoys weight lifting, playing basketball, and reading. His plans for the future are to continue his education and become a business professional. Congratulations Mark! We appreciate your hard work and dedication!

2 Securing Your Home Network A protected home network means your family can use the Internet safely and securely. Most households now run networks of devices linked to the Internet, including computers, laptops, gaming devices, TVs, tablets, and smartphones that access wireless networks. To protect your home network and your family, you need to have the right tools in place and confidence that family members can use the Internet safely and securely. The first step is to Keep a Clean Machine and make sure all of your Internet-enabled devices have the latest operating system, web browsers and security software. This includes mobile devices that access your wireless network. Secure Your Wireless Router A wireless network means connecting an Internet access point such as a cable or DSL modem to a wireless router. Going wireless is a convenient way to allow multiple devices to connect to the Internet from different areas of your home. However, unless you secure your router, you re vulnerable to people accessing information on your computer, using your Internet service for free and potentially using your network to commit cybercrimes. Here are ways to secure your wireless router: Change the name of your router: The default ID - called a service set identifier (SSID) or extended service set identifier (ESSID ) is assigned by the manufacturer. Change your router to a name that is unique to you and won t be easily guessed by others. Change the pre-set password on your router: When creating a new password, make sure it is long and strong, using a mix of numbers, letters and symbols. Review security options: When choosing your router s level of security, opt for WPA2, if available, or WPA. They are more secure than the WEP option. Create a guest password: Some routers allow for guests to use the network via a separate password. If you have many visitors to your home, it s a good idea to set up a guest network. Use a firewall: Firewalls help keep hackers from using your computer to send out your personal information without your permission. While anti-virus software scans incoming and files, a firewall is like a guard, watching for attempts to access your system and blocking communications with sources you don't permit. Your operating system and/or security software likely comes with a pre-installed firewall, but make sure you turn on these features. -Stay Safe Online

4 Show employees you care by eliminating these common communication mistakes Your communication style in the workplace sends a strong message to your employees and colleagues one that can support your role or undercut it. To maintain trust and show employees you care about them as people (both integral elements of motivation), avoid these mistakes when you communicate: Failure to respond. This can be as obvious as not answering an or a phone message, or as subtle as avoiding eye contact and ignoring questions. In either case, you re telling the other person that he or she isn t important enough to earn your attention. Make a point of responding promptly to show people you value them. Interruptions. Like non-responsiveness, interrupting people tells them you think your time is more important than theirs. Yes, in an emergency you may have to break in on what someone else is doing or saying, but in general, teach yourself to refrain or people will resent your interference. Patronizing behavior. Don t assume that your knowledge or experience trumps somebody else s. Even if the other person is misinformed or sincerely ignorant of the facts, treat him or her with respect. And remember that no one person knows everything, not even a high-level manager. Evasiveness. Ambiguous questions and statements can mislead people, with negative results. Yes, I know about that problem, sounds as if you ll do something about it, but doesn t explicitly promise any action. Use direct language so employees and co-workers know where you stand. One-upping people. You ll damage relationships by constantly presenting yourself as being above everyone else. Restrain the desire to top someone else s story or joke. Listen attentively to show your respect, and you ll develop better rapport with people whose support you need.
