2 General Printing Overview There are 7 standard printing technologies, they are: Dye/UV-resistant & waterbased inkjet- platless CMYK printing technology that uses fine droplets of ink to product images directly to films and photo papers. Solvent Inkjet- CMYK Inkjet technology for printing directly to vinyls and limited fabric Dye sublimation- CMYK Technology that presses ink from print to fabric using a heat press; premium solution for printing to fabric. Light Jet- RGB printing process of producing digital images to photographic paper and film using traditional photochemical means. Direct to substrate printing- CMYK technology for printing directly to rigid substrates. Screen Printing- CMYK process using 4 color plates to produce photographic images; primarily used for large projects to offset plate setting cost. Offset - Process of transferring ink from plate to rubber roller, and then to print media; used to produce high quality and consistent images; requires large project size to offset plate setting cost. Lamination Overview There are 3 main types of laminates, they are: Pressure sensitive- soft laminates used to protect indoor and outdoor graphics. Heat activated- Hard laminates used on prints that require extra protection. Adhesives- used either to mount a graphic to a rigid substrate such as foam core or to face mount a graphic to a clear substrate such as plexi-glass. 3 File Prep Overview File Types: Adobe- Illustrator, photoshop, indesign QuarkXPress Freehand Hi-Resolution PDFs- note that pdfs do not allow us to color manage properly and thus may result in lower than standard print quality. Microsoft Office (Word and Powerpoint) Vector art basics: The use of geometrical points, lines, curves and shapes to represent digital graphics. All fonts should be turned to outlines or sent to us along with files. Please specify Pantone#s. Raster art basics: The representation of images as an array of pixels to produce photographic images. Be sure to embed all raster art links or send them as links along with files. Raster images should be at least 150 dpi at 100% file size. Bleeds:.25 bleed around images is sufficient for most artwork 1 bleed is necessary for any registering graphics (vehicle wraps, window or wall graphics) Color Matching: Please specify all pantone#s that need to be matched When matching to raster artwork, a hardcopy (brochure or printout) should be sent to us.
