1 Evaluation of Practicum Student Competencies SIU Counseling Psychology Program Student Agency Focus: Career Personal Other: Supervisor Semester (eg, SP-3 rd year) The following evaluation items reflect the APA/CCTC Competency Benchmarks and additional competencies identified by the SIU Counseling Psychology program For each of the following items, please provide three ratings: (a) whether or not a competency was demonstrated, (b) for competencies that can be demonstrated to different degrees, rate the current developmental level of performance, and (c) whether the student should focus on it for the next practicum (check up to 6 individual competency items) Evaluate the student with the rating that best indicates the student s performance over the course of the semester, with particular attention to the student s strengths As a competency-based evaluation, items reflect competencies that may represent beginning (B) or advanced (A) level content, and those not marked for level are relevant at all levels of training It is anticipated that not all students will exhibit all of the competencies, but it is expected that students will demonstrate competencies at or below their level in the program For example, a beginning practicum student will not be expected to demonstrate any of the competencies identified as advanced However, an advanced level student not demonstrating a beginning level competency would cause concern Please keep the following principles in mind as you rate the student supervisee: First, consider whether or not you observed a given competency demonstrated by the student Items reflect competencies emphasized at different levels of development, so not all students will demonstrate all of the competencies use not-applicable as appropriate The degree of performance ratings are designed to represent a developmental progression, such that lower scores/means are expected for students earlier in their training, corresponding approximately with year in program N/A = Not Applicable/No Data, or Not Enough Data for Judgment 0 = Needs Improvement to Reach Beginning Practicum Level Competency 1 = Some Acquisition of Beginning Level Competencies (1 st Year Level) 2 = Competence on Basic Skills Demonstrates all Beginning Level Competencies (2 nd Year Level) 3 = Some Demonstration of Advanced Level Competencies (3 rd Year Level) 4 = Continued Acquisition/Development of Advanced Level Competencies (4 th Year Level) 5 = Demonstrates All Advanced (and Basic) Competencies (4 th Year to Internship Level) A Professionalism 1 Knowledge of and behavior consistent with the professional values of a psychologist 2 Takes responsibility for one s own actions, decisions, and mistakes 3 Demonstrates appropriate physical conduct, including attire, for the context 4 Exhibits appropriate language and demeanor in professional situations 5 Completes paperwork and assignments promptly and accurately 6 Responsible and available to clients according to agency expectations 7 Compassion and acceptance of others, even those with divergent perspectives or backgrounds 8 Balances independence of functioning with appropriate consultation and use of supervision 9 Demonstrates soundness of judgment
