3 Training Course Strategic Workers Compensation Management This is a training program to assist your organisation to understand and effectively manage workers compensation claims, injury management and the return to work process. This program has been designed to provide Injury Management Coordinators and Management within your organisation with the information and tools to successfully manage injuries within the workplace. Modules covered within this program are: Strategies to reduce workers compensation costs and premiums; Working with GIO, what to do when a claim occurs?; Occupational rehabilitation; Working alongside the injured worker and medical practitioners in the injury management model; Overview of the Workers Compensation Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988; and Your injury management obligations relating to return to work programs. Cost: 1 day to current GIO clients Overview of Workers Compensation Claims This presentation provides a high level summary of the Tasmanian workers compensation scheme, touching on legislative requirements, summarising benefits available to injured workers and outlining basic obligations of the key stakeholders. It is an ideal introduction to workers compensation for any business, including those that are time poor. 1 hour Incident Investigation and Managing Serious Incidents in the Workplace Incident Investigation The information in this course is designed to provide you with a basic knowledge of the practical skills related to accident investigation by: Raising your awareness of the legislative requirements for investigation of workplace accidents; Providing a basic understanding of the models related to incident causation; and An overview of the risk factors that contribute to any incident or near miss situation. Managing Serious Incidents in the Workplace This course is aimed at all clients big and small as anyone could have an incident or hold up situation where Workplace Standards needs to be notified of issues and corrective actions taken to prevent similar situations from arising. This information session provides an insight into what constitutes as a Serious Incident as described under the Workplace Health and Safety Regulations 1998 and what responsibilities employers have to notify Workplace Standards. We will also discuss: What sort of counselling is available and what is best for certain situations; Processes that an investigator will use in looking for recoveries; Common law exposure and factual statements to look for; and Technical considerations in serious injuries and how GIO manages these issues to gain a positive result for all stakeholders. 4 hours Food for Thought Breakfast These free breakfast briefings are designed to introduce clients to ideas and strategies to deal with emerging issues in relation to claims management, injury management and injury prevention. In this session a guest speaker from Workplace Standards will be invited to talk about the future direction of the inspectorate. 2 hours Management Obligations Under Safety Legislation All businesses, regardless of industry sector or size, are required to comply with a range of workplace safety legal requirements. This practical, information-packed session offers an introductory overview of current safety laws and contemporary approaches to risk management in the workplace. Employer and employee duties are covered in this session as well as the penalties that have been handed out from Workplace Standards Tasmania. 3 hours 3

4 Training Course Strategies for Preventing and Managing Stress Claims Are you a reasonable employer? This interactive workshop will assist you to determine what constitutes reasonable administrative action in your workplace and how you can minimise your risk of incurring a stress claim. It provides participants with an overview of employer obligations and strategies for managing employees who submit a stress claim. There will be two case studies for discussion and an opportunity for clients to raise questions with the presenters. Hazard Identification and Control Management have obligations under Safety Legislation to identify and control hazards in the workplace. An understanding of the hazard identification and risk management process will enable participants to function effectively in their roles as workplace supervisors fulfilling their responsibilities for risk management. This course will help you understand the three basic principles of risk management: Identify, Assess and Control. Medical Terminology (upon request) This information session provides an insight into understanding medical terminology and the impact this may have on managing a claim. 1 hour 2.5 hours 3 hours 4
