Showreel guidance. The Audio Masterclass Music Production & Sound Engineering Online Course
7 Frequently-Asked Questions... How does the course work? The Audio Masterclass Music Production and Sound Engineering course is delivered to you online in twelve modules containing the equivalent of over 500 pages of learning materials. The course also contains over 1000 professionally-recorded audio example files, and practical assignment examples where you can learn from the successes, and mistakes, of former Audio Masterclass students. There are also complete, professionallymade multitrack recordings that you can mix yourself in your own home recording studio. The main course text of the Audio Masterclass Music Production and Sound Engineering online course is principally self-study and self-assessed, which accounts for its value-for-money course fee. Each module includes dozens of check questions for you to assess your own progress. At all times you can ask Audio Masterclass any questions for further guidance. Each module comes with a practical project that you can carry out in your own home studio. You will need a microphone (preferably two), an audio interface and a computer running multitrack recording software. When you have completed your practical project you can compare your work with professionally-made recordings. Our step-by-step assessment system will allow you to pinpoint and cure any defects in your recording. What equipment do I need? You should have a recent computer with multitrack digital audio workstation software, such as Pro Tools, Cubase, Logic etc. You should have at least one microphone equivalent to or better than the Shure SM57, an audio interface, and loudspeaker or headphone monitoring. Do I need any experience to enroll on the course? It is useful to have some experience of recording at home with your own equipment. However, the course is very thorough and it will take you from whatever level of knowledge and skill you have now all the way up to professional level, if you follow it carefully. How long does the course take? The course consists of twelve modules, which you are recommended to study at a weekly pace. However you can pause your course at any time, taking up to two years to complete if you wish. Is there a certificate at the end of the course? Yes, but traditionally the audio industry hasn t been very interested in certificates. They are only interested in what you can do. The Audio Masterclass course leads to something that is very much better than any certificate. At the end of the course you will create a showreel. About showreels... You can t get work from a potential client or employer unless you can demonstrate to them what you can do. The best way of doing this is by showing them your industry credits. That would be, for example, Engineered by... in a CD booklet. Or a resumé of other clients or employers you have worked for. Alternatively, you can simply hand over your showreel. Your showreel will be a compilation on DVD or CD of extracts from your best work. Module 12 of the Audio Masterclass course will demonstrate exactly what a showreel should be like, and how you can set about making one. If you wish, you can send in your completed showreel, including all of your practical work for the course, for assessment and certification. There is no additional charge for this. How long is the course? There are 12 modules, which you are normally recommended to study at a weekly pace. You can pause at any time and take up to two years if you wish. I have quite a lot of experience already. Will I still benefit from the course? At Audio Masterclass we often meet people in your situation who have achieved a degree of success in sound engineering or music recording. However, they can feel uncomfortable that they are making the best out of a narrow range of knowledge, rather than feeling confident that they know as much as anyone in a similar position would, who perhaps had better learning opportunities. The course therefore would give you the confidence that all the foundations of recording techniques and music technology had been covered. There is a lot of hype produced by recording magazines that depend on manufacturers advertising with them. In reality, there are certain basics of audio that anyone in the industry needs to know. The course will give you exactly that. Can you advise on specific equipment or software? One of the purposes of the course is to allow you to understand equipment and software. By the end of the course you will understand equipment and software well, and you will be able to make your own purchasing decisions with confidence. Can I pay in a currency other than US dollars, UK pounds or Euros? Yes. Whether you pay by PayPal, Worldpay, bank transfer or Western Union the payment processor will convert currencies for you. You can find up-to-date exchange rates at www. xe.com Who is David Mellor? David Mellor is Course Director of Audio Masterclass, with 26 years of experience in audio. You can learn more about David Mellor at www. audiomasterclass.com/about Can I take this course from anywhere in the world? Yes. Even Antarctica, as long as you have Internet access.
