4 H55 Elissa Aalto, 1955 Architect Elissa Aalto was working as an assistant in her husband Alvar Aalto s office in 1955, when he was invited to design the Finnish housing section of the Hälsingborg Exhibition in Sweden. Entitled H55, the exhibition featured important names from architecture and design from several countries. In his contribution, Aalto used elements from a housing project he had created for Tiergarten in Berlin. One detail featured in the apartment was the Elissa Aalto designed H55 fabric. 7 Siena Alvar Aalto, 1954 The Finnish architect and designer Alvar Aalto originally designed the Siena pattern for fabrics. His idea was that it could be used freely for different purposes. Aalto had a special fondness for Italy. In the course of his life he often returned to Italy, where he established important contacts and participated in architectural competitions and projects. Today, the architectural and light Siena is available in nearly 20 small products.
