5 PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING UPDATES! NEW COURSE AVAILABLE LIT1312/3 The New Testament as Literature A new course LIT1312/3 The New Testament as Literature has been released This course replaces LIT1303 New Testament Literature LIT1312/3 is offered for both two and three credits However, most of our degree programs require it for three credits If your degree program/degree audit requires LIT1303, you can take the new LIT1313 in its place However, students may not take both LIT1303 and LIT1312/3 They may take one or the other, but not both PLEASE NOTE: This course is a pilot (experiment) of a new format that we are trying with our undergraduate courses The following is some information from the introduction of the course regarding this special format TWO PROJECTS This course requires you to complete two projects in which you will demonstrate an ability to apply the principles taught in the course This work will give you valuable practical experience in using the knowledge you have gained The instructions for both projects are included in the Essential Course Materials Together, the two projects are worth 30 percent of your final course grade Project A must be submitted to your enrollment office before or at the time of your midcourse examination Project B must be submitted to your Global University before or at the time of your end-of-course examination UNIT PROGRESS EVALUATIONS AND MIDCOURSE AND END-OF-COURSE EXAMINATIONS Unit progress evaluation (UPE) scores are not counted as part of your final course grade However, UPE scores indicate how well you learned the material and how well you may do on the midcourse and end-of-course examinations After completing each UPE, check your answers with the answers provided in the Essential Course Materials You can then review the information in your course text and Bible concerning points that were difficult for you Reviewing the lesson objectives, selftests, and UPEs will help you to prepare for the midcourse and end-of-course examinations Instructions for taking the examinations are in the Essential Course Materials EXAM RETAKE POLICY* If your combined score for the midcourse and end-of course examinations totals less than 70 percent AND your final grade for the course is also below 70 percent, you are permitted a retake examination The retake exam will be a 100-question comprehensive examination (This policy differs from the standard retake policy given in the Undergraduate Catalog) The goal with this new format is to allow for more interaction and feedback between the student and the faculty throughout the course, not just at the end of the course UPCOMING CHANGE TO CSC1023 INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS The first edition of CSC1023 Introduction to Computers was for 3 credits, but did not require a Collateral Reading Assignment (CRA) This course was recently reviewed for conformity to accreditation credit-hour requirements It was found not to require enough contact hours (eg, reading and assignments) needed to qualify for 3 undergraduate credits Beginning January 1, 2017 a new 2 nd edition of CSC1023 will be released NOTE: Beginning with this new 2 nd edition, this course will now be offered in BOTH 2 and 3 credit versions A CRA will be required for the 3 credit version The following components will be required -- A project (worth 25% of the final grade) -- A CRA for the 3 credit version (worth 35% of the final grade) -- An SLR (satisfactory completion required) -- A final exam (worth 75% of the final grade for 2 credits and 40% for 3 credits) TUITION CHANGE EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2016 Effective January 1, 2016, undergraduate tuition increased $400 from $131 to $135 per credit

8 SUCCESSFUL STUDY HABITS Developing successful study habits promotes an atmosphere for learning and growth Following the study habits listed below will be a great asset in course completion and academic excellence Take courses according to level We recommend new students follow the recommended course sequence for their particular degree, as found in the undergraduate catalog beginning on page 26 Global University courses are divided into lower and upper levels Lower-level courses are those designed to be taken without regard to any particular sequence Upper-level courses may have either a prerequisite or recommended previous study and require a higher level of academic rigor If a prerequisite is required or a certain sequence is suggested, a notation is made in the course description For example, BIB4113 Greek I must be taken before BIB4123 Greek II The first three letters indicate the academic content area of the course (eg, BIB for Bible, MIN for Ministry etc) The first digit indicates the level of the course The second and third digits serve as numerical identifiers The final digit indicates the credit value An example is BIB1042/3 The Gospel of John (see below) While students are not required to follow the recommended course sequences found in the catalog, the sequences will help to ensure they are taking courses at the appropriate level as they progress through their studies Familiarize yourself with the course design Familiarize yourself with your Study Guide or Independent Study Text (IST) and Student Packet The guide includes information about the course description, objectives, and requirements Each course you take with Global University will follow the same instructional design Be realistic You will not have to attend class, but you will have to do regular academic work You will need to spend 3 to 6 hours each week studying your course Set goals and stick to them Keep a calendar to chart your progress Set dates to complete the self-tests and unit progress evaluations (UPEs) in order to complete your course in the allotted, 6-month time frame Organize your goals in a study schedule Identify study times when you are fresh and attentive Think of these study times as reserved time If you have to miss too many study times, revise your schedule Know where to study Find a place that is free from distractions You may consider using your office, a public library, or a separate room in your home Prepare for assignments and tests Take notes on 3- by 5-inch cards or directly into a word processor or computer database to record significant events, dates, ideas, and people Underline or highlight main phrases and key words in your Study Guide or IST Pay particularly close attention to the main objectives in the Study Guide or IST, since the final exams will be mostly based on these Use good communication skills Pay attention to instructions and be certain you understand what is required when submitting assignments If you have course-specific questions, you should send an to asktheprof@globaluniversityedu Time your tests wisely Before you take the final exam, review all self-tests, UPEs, and course objectives to make sure you fully understand all the concepts presented in your course USPM Jul Sep 2016 Page 6
