We ve planned, supported and sponsored Drupal Camps since the inception, and we ve sponsored nearly every DrupalCon since Our team members participate in local Drupal User Groups around the world, spanning eight countries. 5 Accessibility and Section 508 Compliance Capacity We have extensive experience building accessible web sites, and follow best practices as a matter of course. Drupal and Accessibility Our development environment leverages the Drupal content management system, which is designed to support compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 and Authoring Tool Accessibility Guidelines (ATAG) 2.0. As active contributors to the Drupal development community, CivicActions team members have directly contributed to the Drupal 7 accessibility initiative. Drupal version 7 especially has taken significant steps towards incorporating proper use of semantic markup and W3C Accessibility best practices that makes it easier to achieve Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Section 508 compliance. Accessibility Process Our accessibility review process ensures that the site is perceivable, operable, understandable and robustly structured, accommodating users with visual, auditory, motor and cognitive disabilities. Accessibility Testing We examine all aspects of the site, such as: Visual design - for example color contrast and text sizing. Structure - Headings, navigation, forms, styles and Javascript/AJAX enhancements. For example, keyboard accessibility and compatibility with assistive technology such as screen readers. Content - For example image alternative text, audio/video captioning and appropriate reading level. Our process incorportates both automated and manual testing. Automated Testing We use QUAIL, an open source accessibility library that identifies issues across the breadth of the site. We also integrate supplementary testing tools, such as web standards compliance checkers, etc. Manual Testing We examine the page output (e.g. to check for color contrast, JavaScript interactions, link context) as well as the source output (to check for structural or implementation issues). We also leverage the WAVE Accessibility tool, an open source browser plugin to identify accessibility issues, as well as practical tests in key areas using assertive software, such as JAWS. Accessibility Features Semantic, standards compliant and hierarchical headings and markup structure Keyboard operable functionality (e.g. drag and drop) Color contrast and intensity Skip navigation and non-visual supportive content Image alternative text handling Clear form field labeling, even with concise forms (e.g. search).
