5th International Conerence on Civil Engineering and Transportation (ICCET 2015) Maintenance Scheduling Optimization or 30kt Heavy Haul Combined Train in Daqin Railway Yuan Lin1, a, Leishan Zhou1, b and Jinjin Tang1, c * 1 School o Traic and Transportation, Beijing Jiaotong University No.3 Shang Yuan Cun, Hai Dian District, Beijing, China a [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] Keywords: railway transportation; maintenance scheduling; modeling and algorithm; Daqin Railway; 30kt heavy haul combined train Abstract. The reight demand on Daqin Railway is growing yearly, but the maintenance scheduling is almost based on ield experience, which makes great impact on transport capacity. Based on maintaining theory, this paper ocuses on modeling and algorithm, oering scientiic maintenance scheduling or Daqin Railway. With the investigated data, it analyzes the current maintenance scheduling o Daqin Railway. Then the paper models maintenance scheduling based on description o an example illustration, aiming at the least impact o maintenance scheduling on train scheduling. With the algorithm ready, the train operation database is established and the scheduling solving system is developed. Finally, a theoretical maintenance scheduling is provided or 30kt heavy haul combined train in Daqin Railway. The oered maintenance scheduling can meet the actual demand with dierent maintaining durations. Introduction Daqin Railway is known as the important passageway or western coal transportation and the irst double-track electriied heavy haul railway in China. It s 653km long, stretching rom Datong in the west to Qinhuangdao in the east. The reight volume o Daqin Railway is keeping in a steady increasing rom 103 million tons in 2002 to 450 million tons in 2014 [1], and it s predicted to reach 460 million tons in To meet the growing demand o reight transport, the trial o 30kt heavy haul combined train which consists o 5 locomotives and 315 wagons, totally weight 31.5kt, has been carried out successully on April 2nd, 2014 [2]. As an important part o train scheduling, maintenance scheduling must be scientiic and reasonable, which may greatly contribute to improve the transport capacity o Daqin Railway. Many scholars [3]-[5] have studied on maintenance scheduling in dierent aspects just with qualitative analysis. Zhen Li [6] quantitatively models the time as well as duration o maintenance scheduling and then designs the algorithm to optimize them, but the line researched is quite simple and the solution is only calculated by manual. Lei Nie [7] models Rectangle-maintenance scheduling to obtain the optimal maintaining time aiming at the minimum o train aected by maintenance scheduling, which has certain reerence signiicance to the heavy-haul railway transportation. Analysis o Current Maintenance Scheduling Currently, Daqin Railway adopts centralized maintenance as well as routine maintenance. Centralized maintenance is adopted continuously during 9:00-12:00 about orty times in spring and autumn yearly. Routine maintenance is adopted once every ten-day during 10:00-12:00 in summer and autumn, while 04:20-06:20 or 5:00-7:00 in winter and spring. Besides, maintenance scheduling are classiied into V-maintenance and Rectangle-maintenance according to maintaining type. I we adopt the V-maintenance in electriied railway, the operating track will charge up the maintaining track, leaving great saety risks in operation. So the types o centralized and routine maintenance in Daqin Railway are almost Rectangle-maintenance, which orbids trains to operate on both tracks during maintaining The authors - Published by Atlantis Press 440
With the data about daily transportation rom 2012 to 2014, here makes statistical analysis on average amount o daily loaded trains delivered rom Hudong marshalling station in centralized maintenance day, routine maintenance day and regular day in Table 1. Year Amount o trains in centralized maintenance day Amount o trains in routine maintenance day Amount o trains in regular day Table 1. Averages o loaded trains delivered in dierent situations rom 2012 to 2014 In 2013, it s shown that the amount o daily loaded trains delivered in centralized maintenance day is 17 less than that in regular day, while the amount in routine maintenance day is 11 less than that in regular day. So the current maintenance scheduling has a great impact on train operation. The maintaining type in Daqin Railway is almost Rectangle-maintenance, which is o science oundation because o the limit o electriied railway s characteristics. But maintaining time and maintaining duration are only based on ield experience without available theory support. What s worse, there is no evaluation mechanism or implementation beneits o the maintenance scheduling. In the near uture, Daqin Railway is about to operate the 30kt heavy haul combined train, which sets higher requirement or train scheduling as well as maintenance scheduling. Actually, the current maintenance scheduling should make a great adjustment to adapt to the new requirements. And it s hoped that Daqin Railway can enlarge transport capacity to meet the rising reight demand. Thereore, we must adopt scientiic maintenance scheduling, providing powerul guarantee or growth o reight volume. Connected with practice, this paper will model maintenance scheduling based on theory, providing a scientiic maintenance scheduling or Daqin Railway. Modeling Maintenance Scheduling Example Illustration. As Fig. 1(a) shows, line MN is a simple railway network with ive stations: M, A, B, C, N, and section MA, AB, BC, CN are maintaining sections divided by power supply sections. Fig. 1(b) is timetable o line MN, where we assume section AB adopts a Rectangle-maintenance about one hour at 19:00. The shaded rectangle represents the occupation period and space o maintenance. The trains aected during maintaining are L 1, L 2, and L 3 in down direction and L 4 in up direction. 441

A simple railway network and its train timetable Parameters Description. Firstly, make explanation to the section and the time. 1) Section: Number the maintaining sections starting rom 1 in down direction. For example, MA, AB, BC, CN section is numbered as 1, 2, 3 and 4 in order. The section is symbolized by k. 2) Time: Set 18:00 as number 0 hour and measure the time in minute. It s not to zero i the time is more than 24h (1440min). For example, 20:00 is 120min, and 19:00 in next day is 1500min. Then, some related parameters are described as ollow: I : Total amount o trains in train timetable. i : Ordinal number o train in train timetable. K : Total amount o maintaining sections. k : Ordinal number o maintaining section start rom 1. J : Departure hour o the latest train. j : Possible time o starting maintenance and ordinal number o hour starting rom 0. T : Maximum maintaining duration. t : Maintaining duration. t : Departure time o train i at the ormer station o section k. T : Arrival time o train i at the latter station o section k. i : Impact coeicient, representing the impact extent on train i when maintenance scheduling is adopted during [ j,j+t ] in section k. : Total impact coeicient, representing the impact extent on train scheduling when maintenance scheduling is adopted during [ j,j+t ] in section k. According to parameters description, i the maintenance scheduling is adopted during [ j,j+t ] in number k section, the impact coeicient [ t,t ] within[ j,j+t ]. k i k i i o train k, is equal to the ratio o 442
e.g. [ t,t ] I[ j,j+t] i = [ t, T ] I there are I trains in train timetable, the total impact coeicient is calculated as I = i (2) i= 1 Constraints and Objective Function. According to the power supply sections, the line is divided into 22 maintaining sections. So all the researching sections are { 1, 2,3...10,..., 21, 22} k, (3) Now, the maintenance or Daqin Railway are almost Rectangle-maintenance. To ensure maintaining eiciency, the minimum duration is 2h because o subsidiary time or the large machine. In addition, large mechanical eiciency in 5 hours maintenance is higher than 4 hours maintenance [6]. In the uture, Daqin Railway may elongate maintaining duration to improve its eiciency. Thereore, the maximum duration, T, is determined as 5h. So the constraint o duration is t 2,3, 4,5 (4) { } Maintenance scheduling need to take period, stu shits and repast into account. Because o the complex situation, the paper doesn t restrict the maintaining time, only to etch the optimal maintaining time or each section in theory. So the constraint o time is I the section and the duration are determined, we can igure out adopted in each time and etch min (1) { 0,1, ,..., 22, 23} j, (5) o maintenance scheduling. With analysis above, the model o maintenance scheduling or or 30kt heavy haul combined train in Daqin Railway can be ormulated as ( T - j) ( T -t ) t < j<t < j+t I I 1 j t <T j+t min =min =min i i= 1 i= 1 ( j+t-t) ( T -t ) j<t < j+t <T 0 j>t or j+t<t k 1, 2,3,..., 22 s.t. t { 2, 3, 4, 5} j 0,1, 2,...,23 Model Solution { } { } Algorithm. To etch the optimal maintenance scheduling, the model algorithm is designed as ollow. Input: K -total amount o maintaining section, T -maximum maintaining duration, J -departure hour o the latest train and I -total amount o train in train timetable. Output: The optimized maintenance scheduling with our parameters: k, t, j and min. Step 1. (Initialization) k=1, t=2, j=0, i=1, = 0; (6) 443
Step 2. (Label updating) For section k=1 to K For duration t=2 to T For hour j=0 to J For train i=1 to I I ( t < j<t < j+t) Then Update = + ( T - j) ( T -t ) End i I ( j t < T j+t) Then Update = + 1 End i I ( j<t < j+t<t ) Then Update = + ( j+t-t ) ( T -t ) End i I ( j>t or j+t<t ) Then Update = + 0 End i Save k, t, j, End or End or End or End or Step 3. Fetch and output min with the optimal maintenance scheduling. Train Operation Database. To oer basic data to the algorithm, the train operation database is established based on SQL Server In the database, there are our column names: i, k, t and T. Schedule Solving System. This project utilizes C# module o Visual Studio 2013 to program. Ater inputting the parameters K, T, J, I, the program will run out in 15 seconds. The system s parameters input interace is shown as Fig. 2. Fig. 2. Parameters input interace Maintenance Scheduling Optimization or 30kt Heavy Haul Combined Train in Daqin Railway Train Scheduling. With the train timetable o 30kt heavy haul combined train in Daqin Railway, we can know that there are 108 loaded trains departing rom Hudong marshalling station and 108 empty trains departing rom other unloaded stations. So I is 216. The latest train H1960 (Hudong to Chawu) 444
departs at No.33 hour, so J is 33. Then, recording the departure time and arrival time o each train, it inally collects 3678 data in the train operation database. Solution to Maintenance Scheduling. With the database ready, we can input K = 22, T = 5, J = 33, I = 216 into the textboxes and then run the program. Ater it runs out, the optimal maintenance scheduling is arranged in Table 2. The table is about maintenance scheduling optimization or each section with dierent durations. t t = 2h t = 3h t = 4h t = 5h k j min j min j min j min Table 2. Maintenance scheduling optimization or 30kt heavy haul combined train Analysis o Optimizing Maintenance Scheduling. In Table 2, j is the optimal time and min is the optimal solution o objective unction. Here take k = 6, t = 3as example. The optimal schedule is j = 15 and min = 23.8, which means that in section 6 with the duration o 3h, the optimal time is hour 15 (13:00), and the minimum total impact coeicient is The optimizing maintenance scheduling or 30kt heavy haul combined train is adopted or each section with dierent durations. How to determine the duration depends on the maintaining type and eiciency in practice. The model will igure out the optimizing maintenance scheduling with dierent durations considering about the actual demand. As or section, the model does not discuss the mutual constraints among dierent sections, which will lead the solution just to be a local optimum. Thus, it causes deviation between the solution and the reality. For all this, it s still o signiicance to igure out the optimal maintenance scheduling or single section. In next phase, we will igure out the overall optimization o maintenance scheduling systematically based on the local optimum. Conclusions As an important part o the train scheduling, the maintenance scheduling should avoid being adopted only based on ield experience. It is not irstly put orward to aim at maintenance scheduling s least impact on train scheduling, but the existing methods or Daqin Railway are almost by manual calculation and study on the simple track only. In this paper, the schedule solving system could oer 445
the optimizing maintenance scheduling with dierent durations, which actually meets the demand o adjusting the maintaining duration based on eiciency. Furthermore, the paper will take the restrictions o time section, stu shits and repast on maintaining time into account. In addition, we hope to put orward the adjustment scheme or the aected trains and establish an evaluation mechanism o implementation beneits or maintenance scheduling.
