1 This document is a self-assessment scorecard designed to determine a healthcare provider s data integration readiness when implementing the Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN) in the U.S. healthcare market. It is intended for use by all hospitals in the United States who wish to or are planning to implement the GDSN, and who need to understand the data integration with their Materials Management Information Systems (MMIS). Once you have completed this assessment, you will be able to determine the resources needed for integration of the GDSN in your organization and develop an implementation timeline. The self-assessment scorecard begins with the facility entering some basic background information about their MMIS system. That section is followed by a series of questions designed to score a hospital s readiness to integrate GDSN data with their MMIS. These questions are best answered by individuals within the organization with MMIS application expertise. GS1 Healthcare US is an industry group focused on driving the adoption and implementation of GS1 standards within the U.S. Healthcare sector. The group includes members from all segments of the healthcare industry, and seeks to enhance patient safety by improving supply chain efficiency. The Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN), a component of the GS1 System, provides solutions to some of the most important data quality issues facing the healthcare industry today. Problems such as pricing errors, picking errors, shipping errors and most importantly, patient safety errors, that cost the industry billions of dollars annually.
