5 these delightful plea Groves 5 " these delightful plea Groves" is one of the last madrigals the English tradition. It as origally part of the cidental music for Thomas Shadell's The Liberte. This version is found on page 244 of Book I of Orpheus Britannicus. The Orpheus version differs slightly from most modern editions of the song. measure 6, for example, the soprano part of the Orpheus version goes up to an F natural, not an F sharp. And as ith so many consort and vocal pieces of that era, the Orpheus arrangement ends ith an open 5th, not a triad. No sections of the song are repeated the Orpheus version. This edition generally esches the pretifications of later editions. The exception is measure 25, here the Orpheus version has an Eb the tenor part hich is ust rong and has duly been replaced by a D. The Orpheus Britannicus score cludes no dication that the bass part is to be used as a contuo, but sce the frontispiece of the origal edition promises "A THORUGH-BASS to each SONG", a harpsichord realization has been added here. Clearly the harpsichord part is optional, but its presence creases the number of performance possibilities.
