Dry eyes holding you back? Ask your doctor about LipiFlow.

Think you may have dry eye? Take the quiz below to find out. Do you experience sensitivity to light, blurred vision, a burning sensation, or discomfort in windy or dry conditions? Yes No Have you decreased your participation in or experienced discomfort during any of the following activities? (Check all that apply.) Outdoor activities Reading Watching TV Using the computer Do you use drops for dry, tired or irritated eyes? Yes No If you answered yes to any of the questions above, ask your doctor about LipiFlow.

Dry Eye Education There are two main forms of Dry Eye disease. Are you treating the right one? Tears are necessary for your overall eye health. Dry Eye occurs when the eyes do not produce sufficient tears or the tears evaporate too quickly. Without proper treatment, inadequate tears can make daily activities frustrating, affecting your personal and professional life, from reading to watching TV, to driving or working on the computer. The most common form of Dry Eye is Evaporative Dry Eye, which affects 9 out of 10 (86%) Dry Eye cases. 1 This form results from a shortage of oil in your tears caused by a blockage in your eyelid (Meibomian) glands, leading tears to evaporate faster than normal. This lack of tear oil is often referred to as Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). Now, with the breakthrough LipiFlow technology, it s possible to directly treat the root cause of Evaporative Dry Eye. If you re like many people with Dry Eye symptoms, your condition is related to blocked meibomian glands and an inadequate protective layer of oils in your tears. Meibomian Glands Create the lipid (oil) layer of the tear film. Lipid (Oil) Layer Lubricates and prevents evaporation. Aqueous (Water) Layer Nourishes and protects the cornea. Mucin Layer Adheres tears to the eye. Evaporative Dry Eye disease is most often caused by a blockage or obstruction in the eyelid glands, which can lead to a lipid deficiency in the tears. 1 Lemp MA, Crews LA, Bron AJ, Foulks GN, Sullivan BD. Distribution of aqueous deficient and evaporative dry eye in a clinic-based patient population. Cornea May;31(5):472-8.

Your Evaluation Your doctor will perform a series of evaluations to determine the likely cause of your Dry Eye. This can include a LipiView tear film assessment and a Meibomian gland evaluation. Knowing what is causing your Dry Eye will help your doctor determine the best treatment option. See the Tear Film LipiView Ocular Surface Interferometer With the recent introduction of the LipiView, physicians now have a new tool to observe the tear film on the surface of your eye using digital images. A LipiView image of the tear film can be captured during a non-invasive in-office exam that takes about 5 minutes. The LipiView is the first device of its kind that enables your doctor to assess the tear film by capturing images that measure the thickness of the lipid (oil) component. This process is non-invasive and takes about 5 minutes. Next is a closer look at what s happening at the gland level. With the use of the Meibomian Gland Evaluator your doctor can examine the quantity and quality of lipids (oils) being released from your glands. There are no known contraindications or potential adverse side effects associated with the LipiView or the Meibomian Gland Evaluator.

Effective Treatment With LipiFlow, treat the cause of Evaporative Dry Eye LipiFlow is a new procedure designed to treat the root cause of Evaporative Dry Eye, blocked Meibomian glands. Opening and clearing these blocked glands can allow them to resume natural production of lipids (oils) needed for a healthy tear film. Some treatments attempt to add more liquid to your tears, but without the complex natural oil, tears continue to evaporate faster than produced. At the heart of the LipiFlow Thermal Pulsation System is the Activator (eyepiece). The Activator uses patented, precisely controlled heat applied to the inner eyelid with adaptive pressure encouraging your body to restart the natural production of lipids (oils) needed for healthy tears. Its single-use design and built-in sensors ensure a safe, sterile treatment. The treatment is performed right in your doctor s office and in some cases, on the same day as your evaluation. Intermittent Massage Controlled Warmth Meibomian Gland Tarsal Plate

Clinically Proven The TearScience LipiFlow technology is based on more than 25 years of research into the cause of Dry Eye. Over 25,000 treatments for Meibomian Gland Dysfunction and Dry Eye symptoms have been completed with LipiFlow, including patients in a randomized, controlled, multi-center clinical trial. The randomized, controlled trial showed statistically significant improvement, on average, for the number of Meibomian glands releasing clear liquid (oil). This study also showed significant improvement, on average, in patient selfreported Dry Eye symptoms with the use of the independently validated Standard Patient Evaluation of Eye Dryness (SPEED) symptoms questionnaire. Average Total Meibomian Gland Score (Quantity & Quality of Secretions) HIGHER SCORE IS BETTER Average Total Standard Patient Evaluation of Eye Dryness (SPEED) Score LOWER SCORE IS BETTER BASELINE 4 WEEKS BASELINE 4 WEEKS The graphs above refer to the results of a nine center, randomized, controlled trial conducted in 2009 showing clinically meaningful improvement in the primary endpoint, which measure Meibomian gland functionality, and the secondary endpoint of Dry Eye symptoms. The LipiFlow is a prescription device. Tell your doctor if you have a history of eye problems, eye infections, eye allergies, dry eyes, recent eye surgeries or injuries, or if you re using any eye medications or have punctal plugs. You re not a candidate for the LipiFlow treatment if you ve had recent eye surgery, eye injury, herpes of the eye or chronic eye inflammation. ects include redness, burning, stinging, discharge, blurred vision, dryness, and sensitivity to light. Federal law restricts these devices to sale by or on the order of a licensed doctor.

Relief with LipiFlow This treatment may reduce the need for drops, compresses and other cumbersome, time consuming efforts to temporarily ease symptoms. Imagine: Just a short time after a successful treatment with the LipiFlow system, you may go long periods of time without thinking about your eyes at all, just like most people do. You may no longer have to plan your day around your symptoms. After a few weeks, you may even start to forget about how much the condition was controlling your life the constant drops, the warm compresses, the limits on how long you could sit at the computer or wear your contacts. Months later, you may no longer worry about the faintest breeze. You can live your life again. Dry Eye Stories My eyes were an increasing problem for me. My whole quality of life was definitely impacted. Now there are days that go by I don t need my eye drops. It s a matter of reclaiming hours of my life. Noelle Now I m back to being active. I can run, I can bike ride. I have an 8 year old and can do all the things that I want to do with him. I couldn t do a lot of that before. It s changed my life. It really has. Brigette The realization that I was benefitting from the procedure came in the fact that I wasn t thinking about my eyes. Robert
