1 Staff Survey 2011/12 Results Summary May 2012
2 There were 955 responses to the 2011/12 Staff Survey (compared to 658 in 2009 and 711 in 2007). 50% of respondents reported they were office based. The remainder worked either in site-based, field-based, school/nursery based or in other working environments. N.B. where staff have responded neither agree nor disagree these have been removed so that the results show only the responses from staff that both understood and had a definite opinion on an issue. Section One: About Your Job The questions in this section were designed to measure employee engagement. This is how individuals feel about their role within the organisation. These questions have not been asked previously so no comparative data is available. I know what is expected of me at work - 97% of staff agreed or strongly agreed with the statement. I have the materials and equipment I need to work to the best of my abilities - 82% agreed or strongly agreed with the statement. At work I have the opportunity to use my skills every day 90% agreed or strongly agreed. I feel that my job is important 95% agreed or strongly agreed. I receive recognition for doing good work 67% agreed or strongly agreed. At work my opinion counts 74% agreed or strongly agreed. At work I am given opportunities for learning and development 78% agreed or strongly agreed. I have opportunity to question managers about change at work 71% agreed or strongly agreed. I can talk to my line manager about any issues that I am facing at work 88% agreed or strongly agreed. Staff are consulted about changes at work 61% agreed or strongly agreed. Section Two: About Your Council These questions were designed to assess staff attitudes towards various aspects of internal communications.
3 I receive the information and communications I need to do my job to a high standard 83% agreed or strongly agreed (83% in 2009) I am kept informed about the Council's policies and plans 76% agreed or strongly agreed (63% in 2009) I know how to obtain further information if required 90% agreed or strongly agreed (78% in 2009) 88% of staff reported that they received Core Brief (82% in 2009). Of these 88% rated it as good or excellent (78% in 2009). 73% reported that they received a departmental or team brief (22% in 2009). Of these 76% rated it as good or excellent (79% in 2009). 87% attend team meetings (72% in 2009). 76% rate these as good or excellent (82% in 2009). 90% of staff with access to Staff Net rate it as good or excellent. (This question was not asked in 2009). Overall satisfaction for internal communications (based on all responses to this section) is 83%. (In % of staff responded satisfied or very satisfied to overall satisfaction question). Section Three: About Your Development These questions were designed to capture staff opinion on PDRS appraisals and training and development opportunities. My PDRS/appraisal helps me to identify and address my training and development needs 78% of respondents agreed or strongly agreed (64% in 2009). My PDRS/ appraisal allows me to raise issues or concerns that I have 85% agreed or strongly agreed (72% in 2009). I am aware of the training opportunities available to me 82% agreed or strongly agreed (75% in 2009). I am encouraged to take up these opportunities 76% agreed or strongly agreed (63% in 2009). All staff have access to training opportunities 74% agreed or strongly agreed (56% felt staff had equal access in 2009).
