1 Survey Report Finance This survey targeted current OSU graduate students. The survey was administered online by the OSU office of University Assessment and Testing (UAT) in March and April UAT prepared this report; departments may request additional analysis by contacting UAT. Survey Questions Respondents were asked 42 common questions. Questions focused on student satisfaction in areas such as university services, the Graduate College, students academic programs, and their overall experience at OSU. What are the main strengths of your academic program? Class size is small and the director is willing to provide help with looking for jobs. MSQFE program provides the quantitative skills and focuses on practical implementation. Excellent faculty, unique program catered to a niche segment. Flexibility in the course structure & multi-disciplinary orientation of the program. Freedom to customize courses taken. The MSQFE program draws on the strengths from many disciplines (Math, Economics, Finance) and I had the freedom to choose other elective classes in my plan of study. Our program trains people to be successful in the workforce instead of just earning a degree. Very knowledgeable faculty and the ability to tailor the curriculum to individual needs. 3

4 Q8. What are the main weaknesses of your academic program? Assistantship was essentially glorified data entry, didn't feel like my skills were being put to full use. The rest of my complaints are with the quality of teaching in other departments. I wish there had been more assistantships given to students in our program. I believe that there should have been more opportunities for us to present information or lead discussion on a topic. Effective communication and synthesizing information is essential in the workplace but this was underrepresented in our program. Most weaknesses come with the graduate school more than the program as a whole, though there were a few professors in the program that were not the most helpful. The graduate college was the one that made things difficult such as losing papers, not notifying students of changes or things that needed to get done and not having connections to do what needed to get done. Some courses are taken from other departments, such as the mathematics department. Those courses could be tailored more towards business and finance in order to being able to practice more relevant applications to material. There are only several faculties of finance teaching in our QFE program. Location is not good in terms of looking for jobs. Advisors Q9. No. Projects were all data entry, I don't even think the data was even used. There should be a standard assistantship package for all colleges. Business school is one of the colleges with the least package amount. I agree that there is no revenue through grants in the business school but this curriculum is different and can definitely do with a higher package. 6

8 Q22. Do you have any comments or recommendations about computing, research, or library resources at OSU? What could be improved to make it better? It would be nice if the trading floor was accessible more. Either with longer hours, or through restricting its access to only QFE students. Students could also be given access to the building when closed. The business school doesn't have much lab space for graduate assistants - there is only one room that can accommodate six students at a time for all departments within the college. The computer lab in the basement is self-sustaining but too crowded to do any sort of research or grading work! The library is the place that I spend more of my time than anywhere else on campus, it's where I am right now! Despite this, the desks in the library have egregiously bad ergonomics, there are far too few study rooms, the temperature in the building either too hot or too cold, and the lighting is dim. Despite this, the library staff have always been friendly and helpful to me. Most aggravating is that the bathroom fixtures are old and degraded and smell like the state fair. Trading floor lab was rarely open and the lab in the business building basement was always being closed for classes. Diversity Q23. Not really the focus of a "top" state university that only cares about football scores, faculty research and agriculture programs. No I do not. No. One of the best campuses which promotes diversity! Can't do anything without making a student run all around campus. Not really sure what they do. No, they are all very helpful and guided me pretty well especially this semester which happens to be my graduating semester! 10

Do you have any recommendations or suggestions about the mission and activities of the Graduate and Professional Student Government Association (GPSGA)? As a key member in GPSGA, the only suggestion I have is to make GPSGA more known to the graduate students. There are a still a whole bunch of students who are unaware about GPSGA and its activities or who think GPSGA is an organization that provides travel grants. Students from all departments should have representatives at GPSGA and the Grad college should also help in the branding process! No. The existence of this organization was just made known to me through this question. Perhaps they could advertise more. 11

Do you have any final comments or recommendations about your experience as a graduate student at OSU? I am just glad to be done with this place. It would have been nice to have an office, so it goes. I've lived in Oklahoma my entire life and my experience being a graduate student at OSU exceeded my expectations. I chose to earn a master s degree here after I finished my bachelor s degree because I couldn't afford to go to other institutions. I believe that the MSQFE program doesn't receive the recognition that it should. The faculty of my program are committed to making us succeed and I am thankful for their help and advice. 12
