2 INTRODUCTION Between and, the project management profession is slated to grow by $6.61 trillion, globally across seven project-intensive industries. Contributing to this growth will be an increase in the number of project management roles across industries as well as across geographies (an additional 11 million project management jobs will be created in 11 countries analyzed by ). Because of this anticipated growth, there has never been a more opportune time for professionals and job-seekers to build project management skills. By, 11 million project managment roles will be added in 11 countries, increasing their GDP by $6.61 trillion across project-intensive industries. GROWTH OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT IN THE UNITED STATES Expanding job markets. In, almost 5.5 million jobs in the United States were in project management. By, that figure is expected to increase to almost 6.2 million. This double-digit growth (more than 12 percent) in demand for project management professionals will be matched by strong growth in the GDP of project-intensive industries, which will amount to $5.81 trillion in, an increase of almost 37 percent from. DEFINITION PROJECT-INTENSIVE INDUSTRIES Project-intensive industries describe those in which occupational employment has a high level of project-oriented work. In this document, those industries are: Rising salaries. The high demand for project-oriented professionals is reflected in both average salary and salary growth. In the average salary of a project management professional was $98,082, while the average salary of a non-project-oriented employee was $53,840. Additionally, between 2004 and high demand for project-oriented professionals drove faster-than-average salary growth of project management professionals; salary growth among project management professionals averaged about $2,700 a year, $1,000 more than the rate of non-project-oriented professions, which was approximately $1,700. Among the U.S. s 10 key global trade partners, the number of jobs in the project management profession is expected to increase by over 10 million between and, and by, the number of project management roles will total nearly 41.5 million. In addition, between and the economic output of the profession in the 10 key partner countries will increase by over 5 trillion to $12.37 trillion. China and India will lead the growth in project management, generating approximately 6.3 million and 3.6 million project management roles through, respectively. Increasing demand. Demand for project managers will increase in nine of the ten partner countries, Germany being the exception. In fact, demand will increase by almost 60 percent in India, more than 33 percent in China and by more than 40 percent in the U.A.E. Improving GDP.
