1 Camp Foster American Red Cross Dental Assistant Training Program The American Red Cross and 3 rd Dental BN are offering the opportunity for free dental assistant training to Red Cross volunteers. During this training, Red Cross volunteers learn the basic skills necessary to work alongside dentists at various clinics on the island. It includes TWO (2) weeks of intense classroom training followed by 650 hours of chair-side assisting at one of the six Naval dental clinics. This is a non-licensing course. An interview of the candidates will take place prior to the start of the program, and, due to limited space in the dental clinics, approximately 16 candidates will be selected into the program (14 accepted plus 2 on standby). (*Additional candidates may be selected if applicants are willing to drive to Hansen or Schwab. Please inform Red Cross if you prefer Hansen or Schwab) If you do not have the commitment to complete this program, please do not apply. Eligible candidates may re-apply for the next program. Childcare assistance is not provided during this training. Applications are available from 1 June July Any applications turned in after 31 July 2015 will not be considered. Applications without personal essays will not be considered. Interested applicants must meet the following criteria and complete the following: Be a SOFA status ID card holder AND at least 18 years of age Have a high school diploma or GED Have 18 months or more time left on the island to ensure completion of the program Submit a personal narrative (with application packet) demonstrating interest in the program Demonstrate a strong commitment to the program Be willing to work with bio-hazardous material Each applicant to the Dental Assistant Program must submit a typed narrative at least one-half page in length explaining the applicant s interest in the program, why the applicant will be successful in the program, as well as his/her desire for admission. This page should give the interviewers an idea of your personality, so be creative. If desired, the applicant may include a resume.
