2 Goodwill I Putting donations to work. At Goodwill of North Georgia our mission is a simple one: to put people to work. We provide training, placement, support and opportunities to anyone who wants it. With the support of donors, shoppers and community partners, we help people overcome the barriers to employment. Last year, we helped more than 11,000 individuals find work, making an ecomonic impact of over $150 million across North Georgia. Making good use of Goodwill. Donations form the backbone of our organization. People give us their gently used items and we sell them in our stores. The money generated from our stores then helps fund the programs that help people find work. Goodwill has nine career centers that are free and open to the public, which provide access to important job training courses and job search resources, as well as host regular recruiting events, employment seminars, and even software training. Even after our program graduates get hired, we continue to offer them support to ensure that the job match is mutually beneficial to the employee and employer. Our goal is to make the relationship successful over the long term. What are the results? Our formula works. Through more than 40 stores and 60 donation centers, Goodwill processes over two million donations annually. Last year, we helped more than 40,000 North Georgians with essential job resources. We look forward to helping many more people get trained, find jobs and start careers in the future. The Value of Our Career Services Everyone knows that finding a job during these times and in this market is challenging. Goodwill s career centers can give you the help you need. They offer a broad range of support options, including job search resources, access to computers, job fairs, résumé-writing workshops and more. Goodwill s training programs are designed to give you an edge. We can help you build soft skills, develop entry-level skills, and improve marketability by identifying your strengths, and improving areas where you need development. Once you successfully complete one of our training programs, we re here to assist with job placement and retention services. Our employment team leverages partnerships with local businesses, labor organizations, workforce development institutions, faith and community-based organizations, colleges and trade schools to give you advantages that can ultimately land you a job. Some of these programs have eligibility requirements. We will help you assess your skills to find the one that s right for you. If you want to start your own business, we also have programs that provide planning and guidance to put you on a path to success. 2

7 Let s hear from the employers that hire Goodwill Program Participants Fire & Flavor cooks up success with employees from Goodwill. The partnership with Goodwill has been very rewarding in providing resources for employment in our retail stores. The training programs and practical experiences are extraordinary such that people are ready to work from day one. Glynn J. Now more than ever, we are looking for ways to provide opportunities for those who are out of work and facing tough times. We work with Goodwill to support single mothers across the country by assuring that they have access to gaining the necessary skills for today s jobs. Goodwill plays a vital role in the workforce while providing individuals the opportunity to support themselves and their families. Margaret M. Goodwill excels in providing much needed training for our company and the construction market. This in turn provides our company with trained employees that are leading us to a greater return on our human capital investment. Ray R. Fire & Flavor is an Athens-based company that makes grilling planks, grilling papers, skewers, rubs and brines. About five years ago the company became a training site for Goodwill s General Employment program. Goodwill program participants go to the Fire & Flavor facility, where they receive hands-on training in preparation to find permanent employment. Goodwill employees do the same work, and work the same hours, as the Fire & Flavor staff. The experience we ve had with the Goodwill program participants who we employed has been nothing less than stellar. They are well-trained, proficient, and come ready to work. Mark M. The training helps program participants get experience working with a team, getting to work on time, following directions, taking initiative, and the many other skills necessary in the workplace. In exchange, Fire & Flavor gets a reliable way to expand its workforce as needed. And the program gives the company a pool of potential future employees from which to hire. The relationship truly has been a win-win scenario. I don t see why you wouldn t consider a Goodwill program, said Davis Knox, president of Fire and Flavor. It s been a wonderful addition to our business. 7
