5 Supplemental Duties: Division Chair 1. Supervision of all faculty within their division to insure compliance with college regulations. v By example and otherwise, encourage faculty to excel in performance that reflects the mission of the institution and a commitment to excellence v Represent the division, both internally and externally, as an integral part of the institution v Encourage faculty productivity in teaching, creative work, and scholarly work, etc. v Be available as a resource for faculty within the division v Encourage faculty to meet obligations in terms of submission of evaluations and reports on a timely basis v Serve as the point person for faculty searches in the division v Meet with students who have concerns about a particular class and/or faculty member in the division 2. Evaluation of faculty performance within the division. v Observe the classroom teaching of each faculty member v Prepare a written evaluation of each faculty member and meet with the faculty member in person to discuss the evaluation, providing honest, open, and constructive appraisals of strengths, as well as areas needing improvement v Submit the evaluations to the Dean s office by the deadline noted on the annual planning calendar v Meet with the Dean to discuss Dean s evaluation of faculty members in the division based upon division chair s evaluation, student evaluations, faculty self-evaluations, and other information 3. Serve as a channel of communication between faculty members and the Vice President for Academic Affairs in matters of common concern and in the transmission of administrative records and reports. v Report to division faculty information from monthly meetings of chairpersons group v Insure that items passed in division meetings (e.g., policies, curricular changes) are forwarded, in proper form, through the division representative to the Academic Policies Committee v Represent the interests and concerns of the faculty to the administration v Provide counsel to the Dean on academic issues and other issues of concern to the faculty 4. Preside at meetings of the division. v Schedule, prepare agenda, and preside at regular (monthly) meetings of division faculty v Take the lead in directing division business and initiatives, and setting goals for completion of initiatives 5. Compilation of the class schedule for all programs within the division each semester. v Compile and review proposed class schedules for the division prior to submission v Compile and review planning and budgeting documents at submission and at evaluation v Review budget records of programs within the division, in context of program goals 5 of 7
