4 VANTAGE THE VANTAGE range of harnesses continues to evolve and develop. The technical research and developments that underpin the entire product line is unparalleled. We develop our soft goods line up with real science and real engineering to ensure that not only do our products out perform others but out class them too. We look at compliance and standards as just the minimum requirements, we concern ourselves more with truly understanding how our products perform, how comfortable they are in use and post fall without compromise. All our harnesses are manufactured in Great Britain, by Great Britons. Lowers the compression forces around the users back, hips and legs. Uses built up layers of thermo formed breathable foams and a clever combination of fabrics. The pinching of webbing against the skin is reduced. Our unique Trapezoidal buckles allow the front webbing straps to follow the contours of the body smoothly. This removes the need for any adjustment across the front chest. When sitting or leaning the extra padding protects the users hips from fittings which tend to become uncomfortable after long work periods. Don t be fooled by the all singing all dancing, bells and whistles, very often they add little or no technical advantage. There are, of course, times when side D-rings, belts, abseil points and additional leg supports or padding are advantageous but for the basic working at height tasks a simple two-point product is normally sufficient. Unless a harness is being used where there will never be a need to remotely rescue the user we would always recommend a two-point harness as a minimum. It adds very little cost but ensures, in the event of an emergency rescue where the rear d-ring is not accessible, the rescuer can safely connect to the casualty.

6 b - body harnesses Work Positioning 6 When your primary work task is work positioning and your focus is on the comfort, ergonomics and fit of a harness, then sub-pelvic and lower back support are key. Our selection of work positioning harnesses are all excellent at supporting you in both key areas and they have specially developed padding systems that reduce the effect of fitting compression. The waist belt is deep, ergonomically designed, made of built up layers of breathable materials and supported by a 65mm webbing strap. 9 RESTRAINT & WORK POSITIONING RESTRAINT SYSTEMS Restraint Lanyards are designed to eliminate the risk of a fall by preventing the user getting to a fall edge. Quite simply, they restrain the user. If the equipment in use is not only restraining the user but supporting their weight that becomes Work Positioning in this instance a suitable fall arrest backup will be required. But they all do things for a reason. Never assume one product suits all your work asks. If in doubt ask a professional for advice. When choosing the correct connecting device it is important you understand the limitations of each type and what your own functional requirements are within your work task. The basic single lanyard offers the user a MAXIMUM of 2m of movement from the anchorage point and a choice of karabiners of connectors allowing you to connect directly to large objects such as scaffold tubes. Twin or Y Type lanyards allow the user to transfer from one attachment point to another without the need to disconnect, thus maintaining a 100% tie-off, making it ideal for climbing structures or when you need to move from one anchorage to another.

14 c - connectors PAL Our lightest and most compact lanyard which absorbs energy through a unique displacement core with the outer cover acting as a secondary back up and protection, so no shock absorbing pouch is required. Due to the energy management, the lanyard does not suffer from high peak loads at deployment, instead it increases progressively. This reduces impact forces on the body. Available 1.3m to 2m. 23 a - anchors TR3 Ultra lightweight, tough, and with a durable alloy construction, the TR3 tripod is primarily to be used as Personal Protective Equipment, to provide access or fall protection in confined space environments. It offers either an anchorage for suspended work (Option 2), or a secure Fall Arrest point if accessing via alternate means, for example a ladder (Option 1). The TR3 also provides anchorage for one winch operative/supervisor standing next to the tripod. Modes of use are shown on the following page, which also demonstrates the different user equipment required for each. It may alternatively (with different equipment) be used for goods carrying, with prior approval from Checkmate. An optional protective storage/carry bag can be supplied. FABXR TR3 can be fitted with FABXR and FABXR-DB for emergency rescue with the user descending via a ladder. PPEW PPEW The TR3 tripod can be fitted with a 20m worm-gear winch, in conjunction with FABXR, for access suspended work. 33 RESCUE MOST PEOPLE ARE ONLY concerned with preventing or arresting a fall, and pay little attention to how to get the victim down once the fall has been arrested. Traditionally it has been assumed that the maximum period a victim could hang suspended in a harness is 20 minutes. BUT this time frame no longer applies, in fact it is nearly impossible to quantify how long a person can be left in a suspended state, as the variables are vast: from the weight and build of the individual to the type of harness they are wearing, the anchor position and whether the casualty is conscious or not. WHEN YOU NEED to ascend or descend quickly the fastest method is normally from rope based devices. These can be manual or automatic, single user or multiple. Raising and lowering yourself or another operative on a hand winch down let s say a 20m shaft is time consuming and arduous. If the user gets into difficulty the speed of evacuation is the key to their survival. Therefore choosing a device that can be raised and lowered quickly is the key. Practical advice for the safe use and maintenance of textile slings 1 Use only identified slings. 2 Do not use a damaged sling. Observable damage is the most reliable sign of weakness, particularly if a new sling is available for comparison. 3 Note the correct Safe Working Load for the mode use (see safety chart above). 4 If intensive use is to be made of a sling in choked hitch, protection at the point of choke is recommended. Allow the angle of choke to form naturally - do not force. 5 Never engage a textile sling with anything which may damage it. The lifting device, where it engages with the sling, should be smooth, without sharp edges and of the correct size so as to avoid excessive opening of the eyes or excessive loading of sewn parts. 6 Observe the following precautions: a) ensure that the sling is suitable for the load lifted; b) do not drag loads when slung; c) do not lift with slings which are knotted or twisted; d) in cases where contact with sharp edges is possible, make sure that protective sleeves or patches are provided and that they are correctly located; e) do not allow the sling to remain under load for longer than necessary; f ) do not pull sling from under the load when the load is resting on the sling; g) avoid snatch or shock loading; h) avoid eye opening angle of more than 20 (see 5); i) ensure that the included angles for 2-leg and 4-leg slings do not exceed 90 degrees. 7 Ensure that the load will remain stable when lifted, and that when more than one sling is used for a single load, that the weight is properly distributed between the slings or sling legs. 8 If slings are to be used where contact with chemicals is possible, or other extreme conditions such as high temperatures may be encountered, please seek advice. 9 Store slings away from sources of ultraviolet radiation, (including sunlight) to avoid degradation. Recommendations for the inspection of slings for damage 1 Examine the sling throughout its length for surface chafe, cuts in the webbing or selvedges or the cover and core of roundslings. Examine stitching of seams and eyes. Examine end fittings for cracks or damage. 10 Do not dry or store slings near a source of heat. Store them on a suitable rack in a free circulation of air. 11 Inspect slings before and during use (see 2). 12 Never attempt to repair a damaged sling. In cases of doubt, return it to Checkmate. 2 Chemical damage will show as local softening or powdering of the sling or its outer cover. 3 In case of cuts or significant abrasion or of any case of doubt, the sling should be taken out of service and the advice of the supplier sought. Polyester Slings Polyester slings should be used whenever a minimum of stretch is required. They are unaffected by common acids and hot bleaching solutions. Polyester slings must not be used with Sulphoric Acid* or strong Alkalis**. Not suitable for use at temperatures exceeding 200 C. Stretch at rated capacity is approximately 3%. 51 l - lifting & lashings Wear Sleeves Wear sleeves are recommended when abrasion is a problem or sharp objects are being lifted and will also prolong the life of the sling. They are available in a variety of materials including polyurethane for particularly harsh or abrasive surfaces which can be coated either single sided or totally encapsulated.
